Sue Draud, waitress for 50 years
Sue M. Draud, 81, of Erlanger, a waitress for 50 years at several popular restaurants and the mother of state Rep. Jon Draud of Crestview Hills, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
She worked at the White Horse, Lookout House, Coach and Four and other fine restaurants. Her favorite restaurant was The Sovereign in the Price Hill neighborhood of Cincinnati.
"She was a waitress all her working life, " said her son. "She worked very hard for 50 years until she retired at age 65.
"Everybody praised her as being an outstanding waitress. A lot of customers asked for her."
Draud, who was school superintendent of Ludlow for 19 years, said his mother left school as a teen-ager to begin work."She got married
very young, at 16, and had me when she was 17, " he said.
"I was her only child, and she was very proud that, while she didn't finish school, her son went on to become a school superintendent."
Mrs. Draud "was a person who really loved people, " said her son. "Friends were very important to her. She was a very well-liked person."
Other survivors include a sister, Thelma Hannekamp of Villa Hills, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home in Ludlow.
Burial will be at St. John cemetery in Fort Mitchell.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
William J. Drews, 80, of Florence, died Wednesday at his home. He was owner of Bill Drews Floor Coverings, a member of St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring, a former trustee of the Newport Elks and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Drews; sons, Jeffrey Drews of Cold Spring and Larry Drews of Lexington; daughters, Michele Mozea of Newport and Cortlyn Schmidt of Cold Spring; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will begin there at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to the Point-ARC of Northern Kentucky, 114 Pike St., Covington, Ky. 41011.
Ruth T. Bingham Eckler, 83, of Woodstock, Ga., formerly of Carrollton, died Tuesday at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga. She was a retired teacher at Cartmell Elementary School in Carrollton and a member of First Baptist Church of Carrollton. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and Carrollton Women's Club. Her husband, Gerald Philip Eckler, died in 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Ray of Woodstock; brothers, Hugh Bingham of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Wilbur Bingham of Crittenden and Don Bingham of Mount Zion; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Hillcrest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Leonard C. Franklin Sr., 78, of Berry, died Tuesday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. He was a retired farmer, a member of Unity Christian Church and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Shadd Franklin; a son, Herbert H. Franklin Sr. of Georgetown; daughters, Kathy Sue Adams of Versailles and Sharon Shanklin of Harrison County; brothers, Roy Dean Franklin of Cynthiana and Herbert Lewis Franklin of Fayetteville, N.C.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.
Olive Gerrein, 94, of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired clerk with the Internal Revenue Service, Covington, and a member of St. Stephen Mothers Club and Holy Spirit Church, Newport. She was also a volunteer with St. Luke Hospital East. Her husband, Elmer Gerrein, died in 1974.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Ising of Pittsboro, N.C.; sons, John Gerrein of Fort Thomas and Thomas Gerrein of Bellevue; a sister, Leota Gall of Fort Myers, Fla.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Frank James Hendrix, 78, of Florence, died Saturday at Mountain Crest Nursing Home, Cincinnati. He was a former employee of the Ford Motor Co., Cincinnati, and a member of United Auto Workers Union Local No. 863, the National Knife Collectors Association and Ralph Fulton VFW Post No. 6423, Erlanger.
Survivors include nieces and a nephew.

Alberta Kampsen, 93, of Covington, died Wednesday at Villa Springs of Erlanger.

Marvin "Bud" Keeney, 75, of Erlanger, died at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. He was a retired owner of an Economy Oil station and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include sons, Thomas Keeney of Florence and James Keeney of Margate, Fla.; daughters, Beverly Miller of Lexington, Barb Von Lehman of Crestview Hills, Shelley Stephens of Edgewood and Patricia Poetter of Wilmington, N.C.; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Eileen McClure, 81, of Dry Ridge, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

Earl Noakes, 86, of Fort Mitchell, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. He was a retired general foreman with Interlake Steel in Newport and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Van Vactor Noakes; sons, Ken Noakes and Robert Noakes, both of Florence; a daughter, Pat Samuel of Florence; a brother, James Noakes of Independence; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Virginia Giglio Pagliaminto, 87, of Crestview Hills, died at 6:10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Frank D. Pagliaminto, died in 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Toni England of Crestview Hills; and a grandson.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Emory Arthur Ware Sr., of Cincinnati, died Sunday at his home. He was a former forklift operator with Wiedemann Brewery.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Ware; sons, Emory Ware Jr. and Dennis Keith Ware, both of Cincinnati, and Steve Maurice Ware of Covington; daughters, Angela Renee Ware of Cincinnati and Hope Lanatte Ware of Erlanger; a sister, Pauline Lucas of Cincinnati; and 15 grandchildren.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Covington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mary Smith Cemetery, Elsmere. Jones & Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
