Keith Barton offered path to good life

Keith M. Barton spent his lifetime pushing people in the right direction.

"He was a big part of my life, " said Robert Barton, a grandson. "He may not have told you what you wanted to hear, but he made sure we were doing the right thing - in school, at home, whatever."

Barton, of course, gave special attention to his family, but if someone he didn't know needed help working on the car or in the yard, he was there ready to pitch in.

"A problem solver, " Robert Barton said, "That's the perfect way to describe him."

Mr. Barton, 70, of Fort Thomas, died at 5:26 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

He was a retired bricklayer with Bruggerman Masonry and a member of Southgate Vets, Covington Turners and Belle Acres Sportsmen Club.

One of Mr. Barton's favorite bonding activities, first with his son and later his grandsons, was hunting deer.

In addition to trips into Michigan with his friends for more than 30 years, Mr. Barton always made time each deer season to hunt with his family somewhere in Kentucky.

On weekends, he would head to the two-acre family camp in Melbourne.

On the land stood a house that had been in Mr. Barton's family for more 60 years.

"I remembers sitting on grandpa's lap at the house when I would get home from school, " Robert Barton said. "You'd look at his face and know he could take care of anything."
