Mabel Trinkle, grandmother, successful businesswoman
Mabel L. Trinkle was a successful businesswoman, but she also did the things a grandmother does, like staying up all night to make Christmas dinner for the family.
"She was very close with her family and would do anything in the world with them, " said her granddaughter and legal guardian, Connie Runyan.
Mrs. Trinkle, of Walton, died Tuesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was 91.
She became one of Walton's most widely known residents after she opened the Cabindale bar and restaurant with her late husband, Lester Trinkle.
"She was a natural at customer service, " Runyan said. "It was who she was that they liked."
With the money they made from Cabindale, the Trinkles opened Walton Auto Parts, which Lester Trinkle managed while his wife managed Cabindale. Later, they sold Cabindale and bought the Dixie Dari in Walton.
They also had real estate investments in Kentucky and in Florida. Fortune magazine did a story on Trinkle's real estate dealings in Florida, Runyan said.
They built a house in Stuart, Fla., and lived there until Lester Trinkle died in 1980. Then his wife returned to Northern Kentucky.
"She was a classy, independent woman who liked the good life, " Runyan said. "She started from scratch and worked all her life to get there."
