Rev. James S. Amburgey, 65, technician, Baptist minister
The Rev. James S. Amburgey tried to lead others to Jesus on the job and at the church, said his wife, Joan.
Rev. Amburgey supported his family for 46 years as an electronics technician for Lucent Technology in Cincinnati.
But he also worked as a Baptist minister and traveling evangelist for 30 of those years, Joan Amburgey said, and what little salary he received for that he donated back to the church.
"We did it because we really loved the Lord, " she said
Rev. Amburgey, of Erlanger, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was 65.
He was proudest of his work with the Beechgrove Baptist Church near Independence, which he turned from a struggling mission with about 10 members into a thriving congregation that paid off its debts before he retired.
The Amburgeys' daughter, Rachel Amburgey Hall of Erlanger, played the organ at Beechgrove and later at the Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Covington, where her father served as an associate pastor.
"We all just worked together as a team, " Joan Amburgey said. "His goal in life was to witness to people and tell them about the Lord, so they'd be going to heaven."
Rev. Amburgey was a deacon and preacher at Immanuel Baptist Church in Covington and also worked with Boone/Campbell/Kenton County Jailhouse Ministries.
Other survivors include sisters, Hettie Combs of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Judy Wagoner of Bradenton, Fla.; and a grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Erlanger Baptist Church.
Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Gladys "Tiny" Webster Jump, 94, of Latonia, died at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia.
She was a homemaker and a member and Sunday school teacher at Hebron Baptist Church, Hebron. A daughter, Bobbie Hughes, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty J. Collins of Villa Hills; a sister, Mary Worster of Edgewood; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Franklin "Dody" Moore, 69, of Newport, died at 10:07 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a retired plumber at Bob James Plumbing Co., a caretaker at Westside Cafe' in Newport, and a member of Newport Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion Post No. 11 in Latonia and Lawler-Hanlon VFW Post No. 5662, Newport.
Survivors include a sister, Joyce Curry of Cincinnati; a brother, Clyde Moore of St. Marys, Ohio; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport.
Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Monday.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Michael A. Palumbo, 43, of Newport, died Tuesday at his home.
Survivors include sisters, Rosalie Heckman and Linda Ratterman, both of Newport, and Gina Tanenbaum of Warren, N.J.
A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Annunciation Church, Cincinnati.
Burial will be in St. Joseph New Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Enous D. Turner, 71, of Newport, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a retired machine adjuster with Equitable Bag Co., Florence.
A son, Richard A. Turner, died in 1965.
A daughter, Dorothy C. Riggs, died in 1994.
Survivors include sons, Donald G. Turner of Cold Spring and Kenneth Turner of Newport; daughters, Beverly G. Turner, Stephanie Turner and Shannon D. Turner, all of Newport; brothers, Robert Turner of Crittenden and Jess Turner of Newport; sisters, Imogene Stevens of Falmouth, Linda Mae Burton and Ruthie Campbell, both of Crittenden, America Sebastian of Independence and Alphie Bowling of Booneville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at noon Saturday at Billy Hall Cemetery, Jackson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport.
