Lawrence Kaiser Jr., warehouse manager
Getting cancer of the throat didn't slow Lawrence Robert Kaiser Jr. down - it spurred him to work harder.
During his last 2 1/2 years of his life, the Bellevue resident worked from 72 to 100 hours a week as a warehouse manager for the TFE Group in Hebron, said his sister, Dianne Eichhorn of West Chester, Ohio.
He wanted to make sure he maintained his health insurance and paid his medical bills, she said.
He received chemotherapy treatments while at work, through a kind of fanny pack that delivered medication into a port in his chest, she said.
"No matter what, nothing got him down. He continued to work, " she said.

Before his illness, Mr. Kaiser coached Little League baseball and served as a troop leader for the Boy Scouts.
He loved children, Ms. Eichhorn said, and he loved to joke with people.
