Virginia Rolfsen, made her family feel special
Virginia Rolfsen loved her small riverfront communities and she loved her family.
Known as Betty to her friends, the lifelong resident of Bromley and Ludlow was a woman who knew how to spoil her grandchildren - and her great-grandchildren - and her great-great-grandchildren.
"They were all spoiled, " said her daughter, Carol Beutel of Erlanger.
"They all knew where to go for a hug and a kiss and piece of candy."
Mrs. Rolfsen, 82, of Ludlow, died Sunday at her home.
She was a waitress with Mary Lee's Tea Room, Cincinnati, and a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Bromley.
Her husband of 50 years, John "Dutch" Rolfsen, died in 2001.
"They had a wonderful life and marriage together, " Mrs. Beutel said. "They set a wonderful example for us children. She was a wonderful mother. Her family was her whole life."
Mrs. Rolfsen also volunteered at the Florence Christian Church, making ceramics and helping sell them as fund-raisers.
"She was very special, " said Mrs. Beutel. "She made us all feel special."
In addition to her daughter, survivors include sons, Gary Rolfsen of Ludlow and Douglas Rolfsen of Clayborn County, Tenn.; a sister, Louise Hauser of Fairfield Glades, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.
Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Ruth Beil, 77, of Villa Hills, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow.
Shirley Ann Bishop, 69, of Loveland, Ohio, died Monday at Tri-County Extended Care Facility, Fairfield, Ohio. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Joseph J. Spisok Sr., died in 1972.
Survivors include daughters, Sandra Rogers of Walton, Debbie Fleming of Jupiter, Fla., and Patricia Spisok-Spicer of Alexandria; a son, Joseph James Spisok Jr., of Walton; sisters, Carol J. Shepard of Springfield, Ohio, and Marilyn Boyer of Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, William Bishop of Tampa, Fla.; eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Main Street Baptist Church, Alexandria.
Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Loveland, Ohio.
Alexandria Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Jay Daniel Grainger, 18, of Bellevue, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East.
He was a student at Northern Kentucky University, a member of Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue, and a graduate of Bellevue High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and played football and baseball.
Survivors include his parents Barry Grainger and Lynn Schreiber Grainer of Bellevue; sisters, Janie and Kristin Grainer and Beth Vieth, all of Bellevue; a brother, Barry Grainger II of Bellevue; his paternal grandparents, John William Grainger and Marilyn Grainer of Bellevue, and his maternal grandparents, Frank Schrieber and Joyce Schreiber of Bellevue.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue.
Burial will in St. Stephen Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Memorials may be made to the scholarship fund at Bellevue High School in memory of Jay Daniel Grainger.
Donald A. Knipper, 75, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Mary Medical Center, Knoxville, Tenn.

Georgia C. Kohl, 77, of Fort Thomas, died Friday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.
She was a retired receptionist with the Internal Revenue Service, a greeter with the Cincinnati Convention Center, and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fort Thomas.
Survivors include her husband, Howard "Nellie" Kohl; a son, Dave Kohl of New Richmond, Ohio; a daughter, Janet Wayne of Springboro, Ohio; a brother, John Bilderback of Bandera, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Ida Moore, 75, of Sadieville, died at 2:55 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
She was a retired clerk for the J.C. Penney store, Georgetown, a homemaker and a member of the Salem Methodist Church, Georgetown.
Survivors include her husband, Fred E. Moore; a daughter, Linda Cottrell of Georgetown; a sister, Edith Sturgeon of Marysville, Wash.; brothers, Lonnie T. Lancaster of Ludlow, James H. Lancaster of Cynthiana, and Billy E. Lancaster of Covington; one grandson, and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Rogers-McDaniel Funeral Home, Corinth.
Visitation will begin there from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Burial will be in Corinth Cemetery.
Judith L. Pultz, 62, of Highland Heights, died at 3:40 p.m. Friday at her home.She was a retired saleswoman with Drees Co.
