Robert L. Cook loved woodworking, family
Robert L. "Cookie" Cook was a retired sheet metal mechanic and welder who loved woodworking projects and his large family.
"He was a wonderful man - definitely a family man, " said Mary E. Bilz Cook, his wife of 52 years. "He loved his children and he loved his grandchildren."
Mr. Cook, 70, of Independence, died Thursday morning at his home.
Mr. Cook was born in Covington and worked 27 years for the Hoeltge Co. in Cincinnati, retiring in 1989.
He made everything from lamps to toys out of wood, volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Erlanger and was a member of St. Barbara Church in Erlanger.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Cook is survived by daughters, Rose Gerdes of Petersburg, Debbie Cook of Brooksville and Barbara Cook of Dayton; sons, Bob Cook of Indian Springs, Ohio, Gary Cook of Union, Ben Cook and Tony Cook, both of Warsaw, Bill Cook, Randy Cook and Danny Cook, all of Independence; a sister, Mary Colwell of Covington; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Barbara Church. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Mother of God cemetery in Fort Wright.
Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 2655 Crescent Springs Road, Erlanger, Ky. 41018.

William Howard Carver, 87, of Warsaw, died Thursday after a long illness. He was a retired farmer, carpenter and real estate developer, and a member of Sugar Creek Church of Christ in Glencoe. A son, Randall Howard Carver, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Lee Hall Carver of Warsaw; son, Ronald E. Carver of Sparta, daughter, Rita Carver of Lutts, Tenn.; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granchild.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association 8899 Brookside Ave., Suite 102 West Chester, Ohio 45069.
Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.
Nancy Blewett Cummins, 57, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Aug. 9 at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Barry E. Cummins; a daughter, Diane Chick of Cordova, Tenn.; a son, Barry E. Cummins Jr. of Bartlett, Tenn.; sisters, Mary Ann Robinson of Elsmere and Eileen Steinman of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Dr. William Blewett of Lakeside Park; and three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial was Aug. 12 at St. Ann Church in Bartlett. Burial was in Forest Hill East Cemetery, Memphis. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, is handling local arrangements.
Carlos Lee "Todd" Hafley, 70, of Cincinnati, died Wednesday at Rich Terrace Nursing Home, Cincinnati. He was a retired tree trimmer and an Army veteran. A daughter, Phyllis R. Hafley, and a son, Henry Hafley, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara E. Harris of Louisville; sons, Carlos L. Hafley Jr. and Barry Sinkhorn, both of Junction City, and Wendell T. Hafley of Cincinnati; a stepson, Randall L. West of Junction City; a brother, Grant Hafley of Covington; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Cream Ridge Cemetery, Boyle County. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, Danville.
Janice Gail Poole, 52, of St. Augustine, Fla., died Thursday at Hadlow Center in Jacksonville, Fla.
She was a commercial insurance rater.
Survivors include a sister, Judith Ann Vaughn of St. Augustine; stepsisters, Sue Estep, Joyce Williams, Linda Sebastian and Geraldine Donovan all of Walton; stepbrother, Harold Donovan of Walton; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Hazel Johnson Riley, 88, of Glencoe, died Wednesday at New Horizons Medical Center, Owenton.
She was a homemaker, a farmer and a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.
Her husband, Joe Smith Riley, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Peggy Wade of Lexington and Jane Messer of Carbondale, Colo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street location, Owenton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery.

Shirley Ann Scudder, 55, of Cincinnati, formerly of Boone County, died Wednesday at Hospice of Cincinnati.
She was a merchandise handler with the Gap Distribution Center in Florence and a member of Beech Grove Holiness Church, Burlington. A son, Thomas J. Scudder, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Tony Scudder of Cincinnati; her stepmother, Mae Hucker of Cincinnati; a brother, Jimmy Hucker of Cincinnati; sisters, Carlin Isaacs of Crittenden and Mary Turner of Cincinnati; stepbrothers, Frank Hucker of Florida and Lee Hucker of Kentucky; stepsisters, Sue Adams and Carlene Stale, both of Cincinnati; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Beech Grove Holiness Church, Burlington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Burlington.

Truman Turner, 74, of Dayton, died Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was the retired owner of Turner Body Shop in Dayton and a member of Dayton Eagles.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Waddell of Covington; sisters, Irene Cissell of Cincinnati and Yvonne Ballinger of Johannesburg, Calif.; brothers, Ralph Turner of Panama City, Fla., and Michael Turner of Cincinnati; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Memorial Garden, London. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Dayton.
Carrel Orville Wipfel, 79, of Warsaw, died Wednesday at his home. He was a retired truck driver, a member of Teamsters Union CCA in Chicago and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include daughters, Helen Murphy of Covington and Edna Smith of Flagstaff, Ariz.; sons, Carrel Wipfel of Alexandria, Eugene Wipfel of Warsaw, Larry Wipfel of Dallas, William Wipfel of Detroit and Michael Reitdorf of Flagstaff; his mother, Elizabeth Reitdorf of Flagstaff; and grandchildren.
