Marian Carrino Towe, co-owned family firm
Smart, athletic, successful, caring. That was Marian Francis Carrino Towe, said friends and family, a woman who put her heart into her work whether at the office or serving on volunteer boards.
Mrs. Towe, 67, of Erlanger died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
She was co-founder of the family business, Towe Specialty Appraisals Inc. in Fort Mitchell, with her husband, Paul F. Towe. The two started the business 31 years ago, with Mrs. Towe handling all the clerical work.
"She was a very smart lady, " her husband said. "She was a very liberated lady. She always kidded her girlfriends. She said `I've been liberated since I got married.'"
Mr. Towe credits his wife for the success of their three children, all of whom are in business for themselves.
"I traveled so much; she raised them, " he said. "I was traveling trying to build our business."
Even though she helped operate the business, Mrs. Towe always had time to volunteer. She served as president of Welcome House in Covington and was a member of the board of the Tri-City YMCA at a time when a female board member was unusual.
Mrs. Towe believed in honesty, dealing forthrightly with those around her.
"You should never ask Marian her opinion if you didn't want to hear it, " her husband said. "But she had so much charm and knew how to handle things."
Away from the office, Mrs. Towe excelled on the tennis courts. She coached the St. Henry High School's girls tennis team for five years. "She was one fantastic tennis player, " he said.
