Louis J. Schneider, pharmacist

Louis J. Schneider, 95, a pharmacist for nearly 40 years who demonstrated a genuine concern for the people he knew and served, died Friday at Carmel Manor in Fort Thomas.

Schneider was a production supervisor for Merrell Dow in Cincinnati for 25 years before starting his own pharmacy business in 1949. He owned and operated Schneider's Pharmacy in Dayton until 1966.

His daughter in-law, Betty Schneider, said her father in-law was a very gentle and sweet man who loved dealing with people one-on-one.

"That's why he bought his own place, " she said.

"He liked dealing with people and helping them with their problems. Whatever small problems they had that didn't require prescriptions, he was always willing to help."

Schneider's son, Charles, who worked with his dad for about 10 years in his drug store, said his father was extremely outgoing and always concerned about the welfare of others. Charles said his dad was kindly referred to by his customers as "Doc." "He was close to many of his customers, " he said.

"I guess because he was a people person, he wanted to get more involved with helping people with that part of their lives."

He said his father also was well-known throughout Northern Kentucky because of his work as a relief pharmacist in drug stores - filling in for people on their days off. He often worked as a relief pharmacist in Bellevue, Covington and Newport.
