Robert Medley, coach, veteran train engineer
Robert J. Medley, 63, of Walton, a train engineer who also coached and supported youth sports teams, died Tuesday of cancer at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood.
Mr. Medley, of Walton, retired last year after a 45-year career with the L&N; and CSX railroads. He was an engineer 35 years and often drove the Covington to Corbin, Ky., route. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
He devoted much of his spare time to coaching various youth baseball and basketball teams. He also helped raise money for them. He was a long-time member of the Simon Kenton Boosters.
"He touched a whole lot of kids through his involvement, " said Mr. Medley's son, John David Medley of Lexington.
"He loved kids and sports. He took a lot of pleasure in helping children get involved in athletics."
Mr. Medley was a member of the Nichol son Christian Church and belonged to the church's Early Risers Group.
"He loved his family and he loved his friends, " said John David Medley. "He was very close to his six grandchildren. He was very outgoing. He truly never met a stranger. If you chatted five minutes with him, you would feel like you had a friend."
Other survivors include Mr. Medley's wife of 42 years, Pat Medley; a daughter, Laura Lee Medley of Walton, and another son, C. Michael Medley of Edgewood.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Nicholson Christian Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Lawrence A. Doering, 69, of Alexandria, died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was vice president and owner of H. Dennert Distributing Co., Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
Survivors include daughters, Jennifer B. Doering and Kristin D. Tracy, both of Newport.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will begin there at 8:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Lorraine Henzerling, 94, of Fort Thomas, died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday at Carmel Manor, Fort Thomas.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Ann's Auxilia ry, Knights of St. John and Lady Forresters. Her husband, Philip Henzerling, died in 1970.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Fields of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Carmel Manor Chapel, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Lois L. Martin, 60, of Erlanger, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a communications manager with Home Depot.
Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Martin of Erlanger; a sister, Mary Ann Ziegelmeyer of Erlanger; and brothers, Thomas E. Martin and Gary G. Martin, both of Alabama.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Dollie McKenney, 87, of Covington, died Wednesday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia.
Arrangements are pending at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.
Nerma Dean Ross, 67, of Mays Lick, died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at her home.
She was a member of Farmerettes Homemakers Club and Piqua United Methodist Church in Robertson County, where she was a choir leader.
Survivors include her husband, Gordon Ross; a daughter, Ann Burch of Mays Lick; a sister, Levaughn Thomas of Mount Olivet; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mays Lick.

Julia Rose Williams, 72, of Covington, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
