Omer Lucas Sr., operated Snyder Airport in Falmouth
Omer Charles Lucas Sr. died talking about one of the great passions of his life - airplanes.
Mr. Lucas, longtime operator of the Gene Snyder Airport in Falmouth, suffered a heart attack Wednesday while speaking during an airport board meeting
He died at St. Luke Hospital East.
Mr. Lucas was 60.
He got his start in airplanes working for Boone County Aviation fresh out of Simon Kenton High School, said his brother, Ollie Lucas, of Dry Ridge.
He became a pilot and a flight instructor, and such an accomplished plane mechanic that people brought their aircraft from as far away as North Carolina to have him work on them, his brother said.
"Planes were pretty much his whole life, " Ollie Lucas said.
Omer Lucas operated the airport in Cynthiana for 8-10 years before taking over operations at Gene Snyder about 20 years ago, his brother said.
He was proprietor of Lucas Air and a member of the Pendleton County airport board.
He also was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Other survivors include sons Omer Charles Lucas Jr. of Fort Mitchell and Charles Lee Lucas of Burlington; another brother, R.C. Lucas of Florence; and a sister, Eileen Ehlman of Covington.
There will be a gathering of friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Cremation will be provided by Hillside Chapel, Clifton, Cincinnati.

John Ray Abney, 45, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. He was a mechanic for Bills Transmission Service in Independence.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Betty Godawa of Covington; sons, Robbie Abney of Latonia and Aaron Abney of Russell Springs; a daughter, Kelly Newby of Russell Springs; brothers, Donald Godawa and Bobby Godawa, both of Latonia; sisters, Elvaleena Godawa, Lajeannia Godawa and Paulina Godawa, all of Latonia; a grandmother, Elva Mitchell of Covington; and two grandchildren.
Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Arrangements were handled by Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick.
Louise V. Clark, 88, of Petersburg, died at 2:55 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of East Side Christian Church in Frankfort, Ind. She was a Sunday school teacher there, and also played piano for the church. Her husband, Lynn Clark, died in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Clark of Greenville, Pa.; a daughter, Bea Hills of Petersburg; a sister, Bonnie Zimerle of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a brother, James Canon of Jamestown, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. EST Saturday at Goodwin Funeral Home, Frankfort, Ind. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Osborne Cemetery, Monon, Ind. Memorials are suggested to International Disaster Emergency Services, P.O. Box 60, Kempton, Ind. 46069.
Richard Lynn Eckstein, 44, of Fort Wright, died Wednesday at his home. He was a machine operator with Continental, Erlanger and a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. A son, Ryan Eckstein, died in 1980.
Survivors include his mother, Carol J. Eckstein of Florence; brothers, Michael Eckstein and David Eckstein, both of Union, and Timothy Eckstein of Cincinnati.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center, 225 Park Ave., Norwood, Ohio 45212.
Mary Belle Knarr, 78, of Oldsmar, Fla., formerly of Covington, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke the Evangelist Church, Palm Harbor, Fla. and the East Lake Woodlands Country Club in Clearwater, Fla.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Knarr; sons, Edward M. Knarr of Ham Lake, Minn., and Terrance Knarr of Palm Harbor; a daughter, Mary Ann "Polly" Murphy of Olympia, Wash.; sisters, Alice Linnemann of Erlanger and Elizabeth Hinzman of Park Hills; a brother, Edward Fields of Las Cruces, N.M.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, Palm Harbor. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, Clearwater. Burial will be in Sylvan Abbey Cemetery, Clearwater. Memorials are suggested to the hospice of the donor's choice.
Patricia Ann McDermott, 51 of Villa Hills, died Thursday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.

Dora M. McKinley, 87, of Alamo, Texas, died Aug. 4 at her home. She was a retired pediatric nurse with Booth Memorial Hospital in Covington.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene P. McKinley; a son, Leroy McKinley of Florence; sisters, Katherine Winburn of Richmond and Mrs. Don Robbins of Mount Home, Ark.; a brother, Sam Williams of Kentucky; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Runyan Memorial Christian Church, Covington. Memorials are suggested to the Hannah Day Benefit Fund, at any U.S. Bank.
Grace Fornash Perkins, 88, of Williamstown, died today at Woodcrest Manor Nursing Home.

Helen Dorothy Vogelsgang, 85, of Fort Wright, died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell, and the church's Legion of Mary and the St. Charles Auxiliary. Her husband, Joseph J. Vogelsgang, died in 1982.
Survivors include a brother, Lawrence Vogelsgang of Florence.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery. Albert E. Windeler, 75, of Florence, died Tuesday at Villa Springs of Erlanger.
Survivors include daughters, Sharon Sewell, Linda Miller, Barbara Courtney, Pam Overbay, Katherine Endress and Crystal Jackson, all of Northern Kentucky; a son, Albert N. Windeler of Northern Kentucky; a brother, Earl Windeler of Northern Kentucky; a sister, Norma Beadenhorn of Northern Kentucky; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. Staley-Crowe Funeral Home, Cincinnati, is handling arrangements.
