Rev. Michael Kinman, Faith Christian Center co-founder
A banner in the church that the Rev. Michael Wayne Kinman co-founded in 1976 and pastored for the last 15 years summed up his mission in life.
"To know God and make Him known, " it says.
"That's pretty much what he was all about, " said a son, Mark Wesley Kinman, of Fort Mitchell.
The Rev. Kinman died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was 56.
His father was in real estate in the mid-'70s when he began to feel the calling to another vocation, said Mark Kinman.
He co-founded Faith Christian Center in Newport in 1976 and gave up his business interests as he became more deeply involved with that congregation, first serving as Sunday school superintendent, then music director, and finally as pastor.
His efforts to spread the Gospel took him on numerous trips across the globe and his flock helped to support mission work in Central and South America, Africa and Europe.
On one trip to England, he met a minister of a British church in a local McDonald's and the two struck up a friendship.
That blossomed into ties between the two men's families and their two churches.
"His wisdom is what stuck out about him, " Mark Kinman said.
"He had input into so many people's lives. They would come back and tell him the words he said to them when they were young they were now using on their own children."
The Rev. Kinman was adviser to Aglow Fellowship, a women's organization, and a board member of Mark Roser Ministries, a mission group in Zimbabwe.
