Frank Louis Rizzo Jr., built home, business

When Janet Rizzo watched her son take his last breath, she didn't see the emaciated cancer victim dying before her, but an image of him sucking his thumb as a child.

"It was the good Lord put that in front of me, instead of the (scene) I was looking at then, " Mrs. Rizzo said.

Frank Louis Rizzo Jr., 45, died Tuesday at the home he had built in Grants Lick. His death brought a calm and peace over the house and the grounds he had loved so well, his mother said.

"I felt his spirit was just leaving, " she said.

Mr. Rizzo kept the pond at the home stocked with fish, and he and his four brothers and sisters would have family fishing tournaments there.

He built the house himself, as he had built his own business, Frank Rizzo Painting Contractors.

"We were very proud of the boys, " Mrs. Rizzo said of her sons. "We never had to help them financially. They knew they had to work for a living, and they did it."

Mr. Rizzo lived long enough to watch his daughter, Shanna Rizzo, graduate in June with honors from Campbell County High School. His last words were to her. He told her he loved her, then died peacefully in his sleep, Mrs. Rizzo said.

"I know he has to be happier now, without all that pain and mis ery, " she said.
