JoAnn Raisor, 65, a fixture in Covington Public Schools
For 31 years JoAnn Raisor was a fixture in Covington Public Schools, first at Third District School and later in the bus transportation office. She could have retired, but she continued to work, saying if she had to die, she'd rather die at her desk.
Raisor, 65, of Covington, died of an apparent heart attack at 6:40 a.m. Thursday while driving in Latonia. Her car ran off Taylor Mill Road, about a half mile south of Interstate 275, down an embankment and struck a tree. Her husband, Don Raisor, who is a bus driver and dispatcher for Covington Public Schools, said working for Covington schools was his wife's only job.
A native of Corinth in Grant County, JoAnn Raisor moved to Covington with her family when she was about five years old.
"Her first job was as secretary for Third District school at Fifth and Philadelphia, " Don Raisor said. "Then when they closed that school, she took a job in the central office and worked there a couple of years."
About 15 years ago, she became transportation secretary for the school board.
"She loved the job and working with the children, " he said. "If it meant going in early or staying lat er because some child missed their bus, she did it."
