Kathryn Carroll, 58, battled breast cancer
Kathryn Ann Carroll, 58, of Taylor Mill, a former assistant manager of the Window Garden restaurant in Cincinnati, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
"She battled breast cancer 22 years and every day she was with us was such a gift, " said Mrs. Carroll's daughter, Julie Carroll Keeney of Independence. "She had a zest for life that I can't even begin to des cribe. She looked at life as a celebration.
"She was the matriarch of our entire family. She was wonderful; the most kindhearted woman you would ever want to meet.
"She was my best friend, my role model, my joy, my hope. Everybody who met her loved her."
Mrs. Carroll worked at the Window Garden more than 20 years and retired from the restaurant business when the Window Garden closed a couple of years ago.
Mrs. Carroll was fond of traveling. She enjoyed Hawaii and her favorite vacation spot was Sanibel, Fla.
Other survivors include Mrs. Caroll's mother, Dixie Carroll of Taylor Mill; a sister, Mary Windsor of Cincinnati; and a brother, David Carroll of Cincinnati.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home in Erlanger. Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Arlington Memorial Gardens in Cincinnati.
Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Ernest R. Barnard, 92, of Southgate, died at 8:30 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a retired maintenance mechanic with the Kroger Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Covington. He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 345 F&AM, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Rosebud Chapter No. 39 Order of the Eastern Star, Order of Amaranth, Indra Consistory Scottish Rite and Syrian Shrine Temple in Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Barnard; and a son, Ernie Barnard Jr. of Orlando, Fla.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Marion Bolmer, 71, of Newport, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Betty Jane Ware Burrows, 86, of Lakeside Park, died at 12:15 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired interior decorator with Boehmer Paint Co., and a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Lakeside Park, the Fort Mitchell Country Club and Covington Ladies Home.
Survivors include her husband, Charles A. Burrows; a son, C. Alex Burrows Jr. of Norfolk, Va.; and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Highland cemetery Chapel, Fort Mitchell. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 2690 Dixie Highway, Lakeside Park, 41017; or the charity of the donor's choice. Donald Decker, 51, of Alexandria, died at 10:06 p.m. Saturday at his home. He was a carpenter and heavy equipment operator.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy Ruschman Decker; a daughter, Karena Monsen of San Antonio; a son, Aaron Decker of Foster; his mother, Beatrice Decker of Alexandria; brothers, Maurice Decker, Dave Decker and Tim Decker, all of Alexandria; sisters, Linda Schertler, also of Alexandria, Martha Sheffel of California, and Joyc e Clark of Cold Spring; and four grandchildren.

Elizabeth "Betty" A. Deters, 72, of Burlington, died Friday at her home.
She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Burlington. She was a former member of St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Her husband, John "Jack" Deters, died in 1993.
Survivors include sons, John Deters of Burlington, Bill Deters of Florence, and Ken Deters of Edgewood; daughters, Jody Rechtin of Burlington, and Judy Cahill of Florence; a brother, Rod Fussinger of Burlington; and 15 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesda y at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses.
Leroy Gabbard, 56, of Fairfield, Ohio, formerly of Taylor Mill, died at 6:50 a.m. Saturday at Community Multicare Center in Fairfield.
He was a truck driver with Latonia Blacktop Co.
Survivors include his wife, Freida Irwin Gabbard; sons, Leroy Gabbard Jr. of LaGrange, Christopher Gabbard of Covington, and William Gabbard of Independence; daughters, Freida Luke of Covington, and Cassandra Gabbard of Independence; sisters, Doris Cain of In dependence, and Mildred Hunley of Pendleton County; half-sisters, Billie Eversole of Covington, and Georgia Mae Roehl of Taylor Mill; and four grandchildren.

Phyllis M. Hemer, 94, of Latonia, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a retired bookkeeper with Schwab Wholesale, Cincinnati, and a member of St. Mark United Church of Christ, Latonia. She was a member of Homemakers of Kenton County, and a past president of the Tenth District School PTA and Holmes High School PTA. Her husband, Louis N. Hemer, died in 1993. A daughter, Joan F. Ward, died in 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis M. Owens of Florence; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mary E. Littrell, 59, of Union, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and entertainer and a member of Star Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Florence.

Minor Styer, 66, of Highland Heights, died at 1:25 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a former Miamisburg, Ohio, police officer.
Survivors include daughters, Tracy Perry of Augusta, Barbie Havlin of Fort Mitchell and Heather Styer of Mentor; sons, Minor Scott Styer of Grants Lick and Troy Styer of Alexandria; a brother, Chuck Styer of California; a sister, Nancy Edwards of New Richmond, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren.

John Howard Tackett, 91, of Owenton, died Friday at New Horizons Medical Center in Owenton. He was a farmer in Owen County and a member of First Christian Church, Owenton, Emmanuel Lodge No. 213 and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. His wife, Lucy Dean Samford Tackett, died in 1991.

Evelyn H. Thomas, 80, of Florence, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence .
She was a bookkeeper with Roberts and Hudson Tire Co. and a member of Latonia Baptist Church. Her husband, Marion G. Thomas, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Wayne G. Thomas of Florence; sisters, Florabelle Boedker of Florence and Aletta Laycock of Meridian, Idaho; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Russell W. Van Gorden, 74, of Cincinnati, died at 7:50 a.m. Friday at his home.
He was a retired computer engineer with Gibson Greeting Card Co., Cincinnati, a former employee of IBM and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Virginia M. Woeste, 78, of Latonia, died at 6:25 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medi cal Center North, Covington. She was a retired teacher with John G. Carlisle School, and a member of Latonia Baptist Church. Her husband, Henry "Bud" Woeste, died in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Dee Cole of Berea.

Junior Wright, 78, of Silver Grove, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a foreman with E&J; Nolan Co., a deacon with Silver Grove Christian Church and a former Silver Grove city councilman. He was a member of the Campbell County Planning and Zoning Commission and the Junior Order of American Mechanics, and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Wright; sons, Jay Wilson Wright, Randy Charles Wright and Thomas Wayne Wright, all of Alexandria, Michael Lawrence Wright of Williamstown, Rickey James Wright of Silver Grove, and Scott Lewis Wright of Erlanger; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
