William Myers, 85, POW in WWII

William Davis Myers endured 15 months as a World War II prisoner of war in Germany with grim determination.

Though the ordeal left him with permanent disabilities, Mr. Myers accepted the injuries as pa rt of the price he paid to help preserve America's freedom.

"He didn't talk about it a lot, but he was proud of it, " said his daughter, Diane Farris of May's Lick. "It was part of defending his country."

Mr. Myers, 85, of Washington, died at 8:35 p.m. Thursday at Maysville Extended Care.

He was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Oaks Wood in Fleming County.

Mr. Myers was inducted into the Army in February 1942. He was wounded in Salerno, Italy, befo re being captured and imprisoned in Germany.

He was awarded the Purple Heart and numerous other commendations. After his honorable dischar ge Oct. 10, 1945, he became a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Myers returned to Kentucky and became a tobacco farmer in Mason County.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and outdoor activities with his children, grandchildren and g reat- grandchildren, his daughter said.

"He was a very quiet, reserved person, " Mrs. Farris said.

Mr. Myers' son, Gary Myers of Washington, said his father lived a quiet, peaceful life and faced the struggles of old age with the same quiet courage he displayed throughout his life.

Mr. Myers was married to Emogene Gifford Myers for 56 years.

Other survivors include a daughter, Patricia "Cork" Prater of Vanceburg; a sister, Myrtle D ouglas of Rectorville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Green Acres Cemetery, Maysville. Visitation w ill be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Palmer Funeral Home, May's Lick. Military services will be conducted by the Sim on Kenton VFW Post No. 2734.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 909 Kenton Station Drive, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Amanda Nicole Eglian, 20, of Alexandria, died Thursday in an automobile accident in Mentor.

She was a receptionist for the Huntington Bank, Cincinnati.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Cathy and Nick Hiance of Alexandria; father and stepmother, Michael and Shannon Eglian of Silver Grove; brothers, Nicholas Hiance of Alexandria and Dylan Eglian of Silv er Grove; a sister, Hannah Eglian of Silver Grove; maternal grandmother, Mary Tischner of Melbourne; paternal grandparents, Harry and Bertie Eglian of Alexandria, and maternal stepgrandparents, Donald and Joyce Reed of Alexandria.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be fr om 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Camp Springs.

Clem Enzweiler Jr., 75, of Grants Lick, died Friday at his home.

He was a retired carpenter for Woeste Builders, a member of St. Mary's Church, Alexandria, and VFW Post No. 3205, and a World War II veteran of the Navy. His first wife, Kathleen Enzweiler, died in 1972.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Downy Enzweiler; daughters, Connie Koerner and Holly Pape, both of Alexandria; a stepson, Kenny Henson of Dayton; a stepdaughter, Barbara Lindsey of Butler; sisters, Helen Ottav ani of Wilder, Mildred Haubner of Melbourne and Mary Lou Williams and Florence Steinhauer, both of Alexandria; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church, Alexandria. Vis itation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Alexandria .

Harold E. Groger, 86, of Covington, died at 8:52 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medica l Center North, Covington.

He was owner of Groger Garage, Covington, a member of VFW Post No. 1484, and a World War II veteran of the Army. A daughter, Marsha Groger, died in 1962.

Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Groger; daughters, Sharon Barhorst of Villa Hills and Nancy Hill of Latonia; brothers, Homer Groger of Taylor Mill and Lawrence Groger of Covington; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Pleas Hall Sr., 64, of Cynthiana, died Friday at his daughter's home in Bourbon County.

He was a retired roofer. His wife, Glada Jett Hall, and daughters, Lisa Hall and Laura Hall, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include, sons, Pleas Hall Jr. of Sunrise, Lee Hall of Lee County, and Thomas Hall and Willard Hall, both of Cynthiana; daughters, Tammy Knight of Bourbon County and Cindy Knight of Harrison County; sisters, Allie Esterkamp of Ohio and Bertha Morrison of Cynthiana; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jacksonville Cemetery, Paris.

John Knecht, 58, formerly of Covington, died June 28 at Tri-County Baptist Hospital, LaGrange.

Survivors include his daughters, Kimberly Wyrick and Kathy Morris, both of Campton; a son: John L. Knecht of Covington; a sister: JoAnn McCarty of Covington and 4 grandchildren.

Burial was in Chicken Hill Cemetery, LaGrange. Heady Radcliffe Funeral Home, LaGrange, handled the arrangements.

Sally Meta Mobley McGee, 96, of Sandy, Utah, died Thursday at her home.

She was a member of Southside Christian Church. A daughter, Janet Turner, and sons, Bobby Turner, Billy Turner and Jack Turner, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, William McGee; daughters, Opal Stevens of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and Linda Cottam of Salt Lake City, Utah; a son, Ray Turner of Salt Lake City; sisters, Ola Marie Phelps of Cincinnati, Gertrude Seiple of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Lena Byrne of Mabank, Texas; a brother, Austin Mobley of Zanesville, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Highland cemetery Chapel, Fort Mitcell. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Donald McIntosh, 77, of Anderson Township, Ohio, formerly of Florence, died Friday a t Mount Washington Care Center, Anderson Township.

He was a service manager with Hilltop Concrete, a member of Hopeful Lutheran Church, Florence, Masonic Lodge No. 949 F&AM, Florence, and Independent Garage Association. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Marietta McIntosh; sons, Donald James McIntosh of Erlanger, Jerry McIntosh of Thendara, N.Y., Joel McIntosh of Florence and John McIntosh of Mishawaka, Ind.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation begins there at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Hopeful Lutheran Cemetery, Florence.

Mary E. Muench, 77, of Bellevue, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Bellevue. Her husband, Elmer Henry Muench, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Mendell of Bellevue; sons, Dan Muench of Mililani, Hawaii, and Wayne Muench of Covington; a brother, George Cooper of Indianapolis; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation begins there at 1 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Bellevue, 254 Washington St., Bellevue, Ky . 41073.

Florence E. Perry, 70, of Bellevue, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort T homas.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, George Perry; a son, Michael Perry of Bellevue; and a daughter, Susan Perry Wilz of Camp Springs.

Services will be at will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Stephen C emetery, Fort Thomas.

Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling the arrangements.

Robert Rieckelman, 81, of Newport, died at 11:45 p.m., Wednesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.

He was a retired lawyer and an Air Force veteran of World War II. His wife, Carol Rieckelman, died in 1981.

Survivors include a daughter, Elise Averdick of Morning View; a son, Bob Rieckelman of Tuscon, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.

Mass of Christian will be at 8 p.m. Monday at St. Cecilia Church, Independence.

The Cremation Society of Greater Cincinnati is handling the arrangements.

Sr. Mary Clara Ruschman, C.D.P., 92, of Melbourne, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ho ly Family Home, Melbourne.

She was involved in dietary and housekeeping services in seminaries and convents.

Survivors include a brother, Joseph Ruschman of Roselawn, Ohio; sisters, Theresa Humpert of Taylor Mill, Agnes Rumpker of Fairfield, Ohio, Sr. Mary David Ruschman, O.S.B., of Irvin, and Freda Schmitz, Benadette Cunningham, Sr. Mary Agnes Ruschman, O.S.B., Sr. Mary Joseph Ruschman, O.S.B., and Rita Kenner, all of Covington.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday at St. Anne Convent, Melbourne. Visitation will be from 3 to 4:15 p.m. Monday at the convent. Burial will be in St. Anne Convent Cemetery, Melbourne.

Jarrad Thomas Strum, 11 days, of Taylor Mill, died Thursday at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati.

Survivors include his parents, Rhonda and Tom Sturm of Taylor Mill; maternal grandfather, Jack Thompson of Dayton; and paternal grandparents, Joyce and Gerald Sturm of Fort Thomas.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Larry Edwin Thompson, 57, of Falmouth, died Thursday at his home.

He was a bus driver for Pendleton County Schools, a farmer and a member of Morgan Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Fields Thompson; a daughter, Tina Denise Hostetler of Lexington; a brother, Bill Thompson of Newman, Ga., a sister, Margie Leightner of Knoxville, Tenn., and two grandsons.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation begins there at noon Sunday. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Rev. Clarence E. Winslow, 95, formerly of Hertford, N.C., died Saturday in Castle Rock, Colo.

He was a former Pilgrim Holiness minister having served in Danville, Va., a former Methodist minister having served in Hatteras, N.C., and a retired Nazarene minister having served in Covington; Roanoke, Va.; Manchester, Conn.; Clearwater, Fla.; Kenneth City, Fla., and Bradenton, Fla. His first wife, Mattie Marie Morris Winslow, and his second wife, Mary Atlas Williams Winslow, both preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughters, Shirley W. Strich of Castle Rock, Colo., and Linda R. Baker of Bradenton. Fla.; a sister, Virginia White of Belvidere, N.C.; a brother, Dennis Winslow of Hertford, N.C.; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. July 27 at Bagley Swamp Wesleyan Church, Hertford. Burial will be in Bagley Swamp Wesleyan Church Cemetery, Hertford.
