Mahoney, fan of antique cars

Floyd Allen Mahoney, antique car enthusiast and Vietnam War veteran, died Thursday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital. He was 49.

Mr. Mahoney was mowing his mother's lawn Thursday when he collapsed.

"He had an undetected heart disease, " said his sister-in-law, Donna Oak of Carrollton.

Mr. Mahoney was a graduate of Carroll County High School and an Air Force veteran.

He was a locomotive operator at Gallatin Steel for eight years and before that managed the shipping department of Dayton-Walther automotive parts plant in Carrollton, where he worked for 20 years.

"He was a wonderful, loving husband and father and grandfather, " said his sister-in-law. " My sister was saying he'd get up every morning and tell her he loved her and he'd go to bed telling her he loved her. And he'd tell her a hundred times during the day."

Mr. Mahoney was a person whose philoso phy was to "step back and take a look at everything before you respond, " Oak said. "He was a very meticulous person. He did everything right."

He loved vintage cars and built a 1973 white MG from parts. He was a member of the Kentucky Kruizer Car Club, the American Legion and Carrollton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include, his wife, Connie Baldwin Mahoney, a daughter, Angela Lacefield of Virginia Beach, Va.; sons, Joseph Mahoney, Kenneth Bartram and Kevin Bartram, all of Carrollton; his mother, Bessie Josephine Proctor Mahoney of Carrollton; a sister, Claudia Crutcher of Carrollton; a brother, Bill Mahoney of Carrollton; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Paula Aytes, 77, of West Covington, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia.

She was a retired clerk with Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati, and a member of Northern Kentucky Senior Citizens.

Survivors include daughters, Susan McCarthy of Burlington and Cynthia Simpson of Erlanger; a sister, Alyene Reinhart of Bromley; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Michael Cerafatti, 44, of Covington, died at 4:32 p.m. Friday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.

James L. Darpel, 76, of Latonia, died at 11:07 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was the owner of Darpel's Cafe, Latonia, and Marine veteran of World War II.

Survivors include sons, Steve Darpel of Saugatuck, Mich., and Mark Darpel of Los Angeles; daughters, Donna Talbert of Independence and Chris Barnjum of Latonia; a brother, John Darpel of Edgewood; sister s, Dorothy Dietz of Crescent Springs, Joan Haas of Erlanger and Rosemary Sweeney and Delores Ehlman, both of Edgewood; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Alma Kay Patton Divine, 89, of Florence, died at 7:55 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a retired punch press operator for Frank Tea and Spice Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Florence Senior Citizens and Union Presbyterian Church. Her husband, J.W. Divine, died in 1989.

Survivors include her stepdaughter, Elsie Webb of Kingman, Ariz.; and a stepson, Tom "Sonny" Divine of Glendale, Ohio.

Services will be at noon Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation begins there at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Shirley W. Hensley, 62, of Elsmere, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Jim C. Hensley; a stepson, Anthony James Hensley of Covington; stepdaughters, Sabrina Gail Puccini of Germantown and Janet Carol Campbell of Elsmere; a sister, Ruby Price of Covington; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Glenn Allen Lamb Jr., 29, of California died early Friday morning after being hit by a train in California.

He was a plasterer for The Brock Construction Co., Alexandria.

Survivors include his son, Jesse James Lamb of California; parents, Carol and Glen Lamb of California; sisters, Earlann Cornine of Florida, Cheryl Hayes of Grants Lick and Brenda Hiller of California; brothers, Lenny Lamb of California, William Cockran of Virginia and Robert Jones of Mentor; maternal grandfather, Earl Greenlee of Petersburg; and Sherri Little of California.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor.

Gertrude Runion Luke, 84, of Old Hickory, Tenn., formerly of Fort Mitchell, died Wednesday at Summit Medical Center, Hermitage, Tenn.

She was a barber and former owner of Ninth Street Barber Shop, Newport, and a member of Lakeside Christian Church, Fort Mitchell. Her husband, Gene D. Luke, died in 1987.

Survivors include her daughter, Georgiana Bitzer of Old Hickory; a sister, Georgia Clifford of Fort Mitchell; three grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation begins there at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Emogene Gifford Myers, 75, of Washington, died at 5:15 a.m. Thursday at Maysville Extended Care Facility.

She was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church. Her husband, William Davis Myers, died on July 18.

Survivors include her daughters, Diane Farris of May's Lick and Patricia "Cork" Prater of Vanceburg; a son, Gary Myers of Washington; sisters, Audra Kreutz of Maysville and Mary Katherine Myers and Rebecca Adamson, both of Mount Olivet; a brother, Roger Gifford of Flemingsburg; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday in Green Acres Cemetery, Washington.

Shyanne Lisa Sinclair, 1 day, of Bellevue, died at 8:11 p.m. July 16 at University H ospital, Cincinnati.

Survivors include her parents, Tashma and Nolan Sinclair of Bellevue; a brother, Nolan Sinclair Jr. at home; sisters, Veronica Sinclair and Angel Sinclair, both at home; grandparents, Kate and Jimmy Sinclair of Amelia, Ohio; and Ethel Barton and George Kilgore, both of Dayton.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Macel Smith, 85, of Latonia, died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.

She was a homemaker and a member of Pentecostal Church of God, Covington. Her husband, Ova Smith, and a son, Russell West, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Anna Pelfrey of Latonia and Betty Queen of Hamilton, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Mary Rolfes Spenlau, 87, of Covington, died at 6 a.m. Friday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.

She was a retired office manager at the former Rolfes Printing Co., Covington; a member of St . Benedict Church, Covington; a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington, and Senior Services of Northern Kentucky. Her husband, Bert Spenlau, died in 1981.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Bishop of Fort Mitchell; sons, James Spenlau of Fort Wright, Donald Spenlau of Fort Mitchell and Robert Spenlau and David Spenlau, both of Covington; a sister, Eunice Rhodes of Covington; brothers, Harry Rolfes of Fort Wright and Thomas Rolfes of Erlanger; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict Church. She donated her bo dy to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Winifred "Winnie" Wayman, 85, of Greendale, Ind., died Tuesday at Elsie Dreyer Nursing Home, Brookville.

She was retired from Joseph E. Seagram's Distillery, Lawrenceburg, Ind.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Runyon Korn of Greendale; sons, Gary Runyon of Covington and Dennis Runyon of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services and burial will be at the family's convenience.

Memorials are suggested to Margaret Mary Hospice or Alzheimer's Southeastern Indiana Family Support Group.

August L. "Augie" Yung, 81, of Fort Thomas, died at 6:05 a.m. Thursday at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation, Highland Heights.

He was a retired resident manager with Muehlenkmap-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. His wife, Betty Yung, died in 1995.

Survivors include his son, Michael T. Yung of Cincinnati; a daughter, Barbee Carson of Alexan dria; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the family's convenience. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.
