Michael "Cef" Cefaratti, stock race driver, bowler
Michael "Cef" Cefaratti II, 44, of Covington, an avid and talented bowler and stock car race driver, died Friday of lung cancer.
He was a truck driver for U.S.F. Holland Trucking.
Outside of work, family and friends, "bowling and racing was his life, " said Mr. Cefaratti's son, Michael Cefaratti III of Covington.
Mr. Cefaratti bowled for about 20 years and had a lifetime average of about 200.
He won several local tournaments and appeared on the Northern Kentucky Stars of Bowling television show.
"He was a real good bowler, and we're going to be starting a memorial bowling tournament in his name, " said Mr. Cefaratti's son.
As a boy, Mr. Cefaratti developed an interest in cars and, as an adult, he and several friends built and maintained race cars.
Mr. Cefaratti enjoyed racing stock cars at tracks like Cumberland Speedway in Cumberland, Ky., and Brush Creek race track in Peebles, Ohio.
"Mike was one of the best drivers I've seen, " said his friend and racing companion, Mark Brefeld of Covington. "He drove his heart out.
"We didn't win that much, but we were competitive and we enjoyed it."
Mr. Brefeld described Mr. Cefaratti as "a friend to everybody. You wouldn't meet a better person."
Other survivors include Mr. Cefaratti's wife of 23 years, Sheila; a daughter, Malia Cefaratti of Taylor Mills; his parents, Michael and An tionette Cefaratti of Independence; and sisters, Carole Neu of Sarasota, Fla., and Laura Lee of Benton S.C.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Allison & Rose Funeral Home in Taylor Mill, followed by funeral services at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Steven Ray Burdine, 51, of Berry, died Saturday at Hospice Care Center, Lexington. He was owner of Burdine's Body Shop in Berry and a Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Chris Morgan of Harrison County; and sisters, Lori Fightmaster, Julie Doolin, Becky Martinez and Susan Crump, all of Harrison County, and Jo Ann James of Scott County.
Services were this morning at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Burial was in Mullins Cemetery, Rockcastle County. Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.
Hanson Peterson Clifford, 77, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Harrison County, died Saturday at Rockcastle County Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was a retired farmer and a member of Riverview Baptist Church in Berry. His wife, Margaret Stanfield Clifford, preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Sherry Smith and Charlene Clifford, both of Lexington; sons, Ricky Clifford of Hixson, Tenn., Martin Clifford of Lexington and Charles Clifford of Georgetown; a sister, Thelma Downing of Lexington; a brother, Kenneth Clifford of Cynthiana; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry. Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry. Betty L. Cooper, 74, of Fort Wright, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Robert J. Edwards, 74, of Covington, died Wednesday at his home. He was a janitor with River Center Services, and a member of Pohlmann-Linnemann VFW Post No. 1484 in Park Hills, AMVETS and the Sunday Morning Club.
Survivors include a friend, Jim Price of Covington, who took care of Mr. Edwards.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Pohlmann- Linnemann VFW Post No. 1484, 945 Montague Road, Park Hills, Ky. 41011.
John R. Evans, 82, of Williamstown, died at 8:25 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired farmer and water hauler, and a member of Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, Dry Ridge. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Burnette Evans; daughters, Brenda Pettit of Dry Ridge and Barbara Brophy of Owenton; a sister, Mary Ruth Evans of Williamstown; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and a great -granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, and from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Pisgah Church Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Patricia M. Flores, 53, of Dry Ridge, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a registered nurse with Grant Manor Health Care Center and a member of St. William Church, both in Williamstown.
Survivors include her husband, Geronimo Flores; a son, Anthony D'Errico of Atlanta; a stepson, Carlos Flores of Williamstown; his mother, Ruth Cerrone of Albany, N.Y.; and a sister, Bette Callahan, also of Albany.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. William Church. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Lorene Furnish, 87, of Warsaw, died Saturday at Gallatin Health Care Center in Warsaw. She was a homemaker and a member of Warsaw Baptist Church. Her husband, Hubert Furnish, died in 1972. A son, Walter Lewellyn, died in 1980.
Survivors include a son, Gene Lewellyn of Danville, Ill.; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Ghent Cemetery.
Robert L. Gastenveld, 80, of Park Hills, died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Englewood Care Center in Springfield, Ohio. He was a salesman with Heekin Can Co. and a member of Mother of God Church, Covington. His wife, Jane Nagel Gastenveld, and a son, Daniel N. Gastenveld, both died in 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann DuVall of Springfield, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Janet Gilbert, 66, of Silver Grove, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Herbert Gilbert, died Feb. 7.
Survivors include sons, Ernie Gilbert of Houston, Ronnie Gilbert of Covington, Robert Gilbert of Elsmere, Ryan Gilbert of Dayton and Jerry Gilbert of Silver Grove; daughters, Patricia Moore of Williamsburg, Ohio, and Marcia Gilbert of Covington; and four grandchildren.

Barbara Adair Goodridge, 66, of Franklin, Tenn., died Saturday at Claiborne Hughes Health Care Center in Franklin. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include sons, Doug Goodridge of Spokane, Wash., Dean Goodridge of Park Hills and Danny Goodridge of Ludlow; a daughter, Julie Goodridge of Elsmere; sisters, Ann Adair Arnold and Sue Adair Wiley, both of Franklin; and three grandchildren.
Services were this morning at William Funeral Home, Franklin. Burial will be in Williamson Cemetery, Franklin. Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling local arrangements.
William H. Hardy Sr., 88, of Cynthiana, died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired millwright with Interlake Steel in Wilder. His wife, Bessie Polley Hardy, died in 1971. Daughters, Corrine Weinel and Imogene Weinel, died in 1960 and 2001, respectively. A son, William H. Hardy Jr., died in 2001.< p> Survivors include a son, Otis Hardy of Cynthiana; daughters, Rose Yockey of Newport and Mona Sorrell of Weaver, Ala.; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

David Lee Herring, 69, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a dry-wall installer and a former employee of the Spinning Wheel Bar and the Woodland Inn.
Survivors include sons, Gary Herring of Newport, and Todd Herring of Fairfield, Ohio; daughters, Tonya Horn of Williamstown, Lana Royalty of Dry Ridge, and Paula Herring of Cincinnati; a brother, Bill Herring of Red Bud, Ill.; sisters, Mary Meddendecker and Georgia Rae Herring, both of Chester, Ill., Janet Bert of Perryville, Ill., Dinah Lynn Herring of O'Faller, Ill., and Becky Sunerberger of Velie, Mo.; and 11 grandchildren.
No services are planned. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, is handling arrangements.
Rose Ann Hogle, 68, of Newport, died at 9:20 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a packer with Au-Ve-Co in Edgewood and Cold Spring. A son, Ricky Hogle, died in 1988.
Survivors include daughters, Debbie Taylor of Maineville, Ohio, Peggy Matracia of Walton, Wray Jean Hurd and Connie Adams, both of Newport; a sister, Margaret Mary Geiser of Newport; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Isabel W. Hughes, 88, of Covington, died July 18 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Hughes; a daughter, Georgia Dreyer of Cincinnati; a son, Bryan Erion of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Alma Marie Jansing, 84, of Wilder, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a chemist with French Bauer Dairy and formerly with her family's dairy, Jansing Dairy, in Wilder. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Wilder.
Survivors include her sister, Margaret A. Jansing of Wilder.

John Nichols, 73, of Cynthiana, died at 10:55 p.m. Sunday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana.

Doris Ann Robbins, 64, of Carrollton, died Friday at her home. She was a former beautician and homemaker, and a member of First Baptist Church of Carrollton.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Joe Robbins; a daughter, Candice Allene Perkins of Sanders; sons, Billy Joe Robbins Jr., John Timothy Robbins and Charles Randal Robbins, all of Carrollton; sisters, Louise Boone and Allene Gentry, both of Louisville; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
