Naomi Lawrence, 87, avid family genealogist
Naomi Katherine Penick Lawrence knew more about her family than anyone - she traced her roots all the way back to the Vikings.
"She was an avid genealogist, " said Betty Taylor of Williamstown, the oldest of Mrs. Lawrence's two daughters. "She not only did her own family's genealogy, but many others."
Mrs. Lawrence, of Bellevue, spent 50 years of her life investigating her family heritage. By the time she died Sunday at 87 from complications caused by Alzheimer's Disease, she was still dreaming of writing a book based on her research.
"She probably had 25 notebooks full of notes on genealogy, " Taylor said.
She said the dream may still come true for her mother. "I'm trying to get a lot of them into a computer and hopefully one of these days, I can do that (publish a book) for her."
Taylor said her mother had connections from Canada to Hawaii who helped her with the genealogy.
Mrs. Lawrence taught strict etiquette and cleanliness, Taylor said. "She was meticulously clean, " she said. "She checked everybody's fingernails before they went out the door."
And, no matter what, she was always smiling, Taylor said.
"She was very happy, very proud of her children and her grandchildren."
