Shriner Victor Sporing, aided children
Victor Rudolph Sporing was a firm believer that it was up to him to help leave his community a better place than he found it.
Mr. Sporing directed much of his effort through the Syrian Shrine in Cincinnati, for which he helped to sell tickets for events and participate in fund-raisers for children.
He was a member of the Shrine for as long as she could remember, said Tracy Reed of Norwood, Ohio, Mr. Sporing's granddaughter.
"He was very civic and community minded, " Reed said.
Mr. Sporing, of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was 84.
Mr. Sporing established C&V; Home Products, a remodeling and window company, in Newport in 1968 and continued to work there until he was 76, despite being declared blind and starting dialysis at 75.
He was a member of Campbell County VFW Post No. 3205 in Alexandria, Fort Thomas Masonic Lodge No. 808 and an Army veteran of World War II.
A son, Denis Sporing, died in 1975, and a daughter, Myrna Reed, died in 1978.
Survivors include a sister, Louise Baker of Claryville; a brother, William Sporing of Fort Thomas; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Seth Ashton Berens, 1, of Elsmere, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Survivors include his parents, Christopher Berens and Kathy Sue Daniels, both of Elsmere; sisters, Kelsie Rae Berens of Florence and Jessica Daniels of Elsmere; a brother, Corey Ray Daniels of Elsmere; and grandparents, Ronald and Nancy Lunsford of Elsmere, and Kathey Sheriff of Covington.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Lillian E. Kemper, 94, of Owenton, died Thursday at New Horizons Medical Center in Owenton.
She was a caretaker.
Survivors include a sister, Katherine Slocum of Owenton; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton.
Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Owenton Cemetery.
Mary Lee Perdue, 98, of Carrollton, died Wednesday at Green Valley Health Care Center, Carrollton.
She was a homemaker and a member of Consolidated Second Baptist Church, Warsaw.
Survivors include her husband, James Arlie Perdue; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw.
Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Consolidated Second Baptist Church Cemetery, Warsaw.
Thelma Young Wood, 87, of Cincinnati, died Wednesday at Maple Knoll Village, Cincinnati.
Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington.
