Mary Hightchew, 75, hosted family dinners
Mary R. Hightchew always reserved Sunday for family. First organizing picnics at Devou Park in Covington while her children were still young, she later established family dinners at her house to continue fostering the bonds between family members.
Sunday was for doing things with family, " said Rose Musk, a daughter from Elsmere.
She did everything she could to keep the family together." Mrs. Hightchew, 75, of Newport, died at 9:23 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired secretary for Hartke Hardware Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Holy Spirit Church, Newport. She was also a secretary for the Lawlor-Hanlon VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Newport. Mrs. Hightchew's husband, Woody Hightchew, died in 1975. The two met while growing up in Newport, which is where they lived for most of their lives. When arthritis limited her mobility late in life, Mrs. Hightchew took to reading. A ll subjects were covered, but she especially enjoyed reading to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was known to spoil her grandkids, " Musk said.
She couldn't wait to spend time with them. She loved them so much." Other survivors include a daughter, Kathy McDaniel, of Elsmere; sons, Bill Hightchew of Alexandria and Roy Hightchew of Cold Spring; a sister, Arlene Humbert of Cincinnati; a brother, Charlie Wiesman of Florence; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Blanche Ashcraft, 83, of Edgewood, died Friday at Woodcrest Manor, Erlanger.
Arrangements are pending at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger.
William Bell, 56, of East Palo Alto, Calif., formerly of Covington, died June 1 in East Palo Alto. He was retired.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Bell; sons, William Bell Jr. and Robert Bell, both of East Palo Alto; a daughter, Demitra Bell of East Palo Alto; mother, Margaret Bell of Covington; brothers, Thomas Bell of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jacob Bell Jr. of Cincinnati; and sisters, Lucille Jennings and Margaret O'Basi, both of Covington, and Mary Harvey and Rebecca George, both of Rialto, Calif.
Services were Friday in East Palo Alto. No local services were held.
John E. Biehn, 81, of Falmouth, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Dorothy Ringenbach Buxton, 77, of Ryland Heights, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Covington, past president of Kentucky Conference of United Methodist Women, and Covington District of United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Buxton; sons, Terry Buxton of Los Alamos, N.M., and Bill Buxton of Cortland, N.Y.; daughters, Melanie Buxton of Ryland Heights and Debbie Glaza of Falmouth; a brother, Frank Ringenbach of Whispering Pines, N.C.; a sister, Betty Hartje of Ryland Heights; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

Nicholas Scott Gripshover, 9, of Burlington, died Thursday at Children's Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was a third-grade student at Burlington Elementary School.
Survivors include his parents, Lisa and Robert Gripshover of Burlington; brothers, Robbie Gripshover, Jacob Gripshover, Matthew Gripshover and Steven Gripshover, all at home; a sister, Sarah Gripshover, at home; maternal grandparents, Bev and Jerry Bailey of Burlington; paternal grandfather and stepgrandmother, George and Vera Gripshover of Petersburg; and a maternal great-grandmother, Angela Krebs of Edgewood.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pius X Church, Cincinnati. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Mary Rita Huber, 86, of Kettering, Ohio, died Friday at her home.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, Otto Huber, died in 1997.
Survivors include daughters, Pat Huber of Kettering, Sue Blust of Beavercreek, Ohio, Judy McGarry of Millersville, Md., Margie Foley Centerville, Ohio, and Jane Hull of Chesterfield, Mass.; a son, John B. Huber of Beavercreek; 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Leonard's Faith Community, Dayton. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum, Dayton.

Joseph "Buckwheat" Runyon, 53, of Newport, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a carpenter and a member of American Legion Post No. 327, Newport.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Runyon of Newport; a son, Kenneth Michael Runyon of Melbourne; a daughter, Deanna Elizabeth Runyon of Newport; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Thelma Young Wood, 87, of Finneytown, Ohio, formerly of Taylor Mill, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday at Maple Noll Village, Springdale, Ohio.
She was a homemaker and a member of Northminister Presbyterian Church, Finneytown, Ohio. Her husband, John L. Wood, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Douglas Wood of Hartwell, Ohio; a daughter, Carol S. Burnett of Deerfield, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
