Edgar Colston, 72, Mason who helped others to see
Helping people to see was Edgar Colston's mission in life.

As a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Colston helped many people in Northern Kentucky with sight problems find the money needed for operations.

"He was so very proud of the work he did, " said his wife Rita. "He was most proud of helping a 6-year-old boy in Ludlow get the surgery needed to be able to see." Mr. Colston, 72, died Friday afternoon at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. The last thing he did, he was helping someone, " said Mrs. Colston, referring to her husband's request to donate the skin and one remaining good eye of his body to an organ bank. Much of Mr. Colston's life was spent as part of the Masons. "Masonry was his life, " said Mrs. Colston.

He was a master of Wilmington Masonic Lodge and a district deputy of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky. He was a former grand master of the Grand Council of Kentucky, Royal and Select Masters, and a past patron of Dora Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Dayton. An active sports fan, Mr. Colston loved the Reds, Bengals and the Kentucky Wildcats. He was also an avid golfer. After retiring as the terminal manager from Lyon's Transportation Co., Cincinnati, Mr. Colston began to attend local antique auctions with his wife. Together they bought and refinished old furniture.

Said Mrs. Colston: "We bought a lot more than we sold. Edgar was called 'Uncle Junk, ' because he bought a lot of junk along the way."
