Robert Goley, a gentleman inspired by God, family
A soft-spoken Southern gentleman with coal-black hair, Robert Lee Goley was seen by his family and friends as an angel.
"My dad was the example of the kind of love that God wants us to know, " said his daughter, Lynnette Appel of Burlington.
Mr. Goley, 75, of Verona, who once shim mied up a tree to save a cat he didn't even like so that his daughter wouldn't be upset, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.
When Mr. Goley was in physical therapy after having a stroke several years ago, the therapist told the family he was one of the gentlest spirits she had ever worked with, Appel said.
His tenderness was obvious through his soft-spoken voice, Appel said.
"You just listened to him from the begin ning to the end because he said it in such a kind, soft way, " she said.
Mr. Goley, who celebrated his 54th wed ding anniversary with his wife, Marilyn, last week, farmed in his spare time. He grew everything from tobacco to green beans and tomatoes, his daughter said.
He was also a skilled mechanic.
"He could fix anything, " including cars and tractors and household contraptions, Appel said.
Mr. Goley was a supervisor with Complete Auto Transit, a member of Florence Baptist Church, Florence Masonic Lodge No. 949 F&AM and Teamsters Union Local No. 100 in Cincinnati. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include his wife, Marilyn Goley; a son, Daryl Goley of Verona; sisters, Ada Webb of Florence and Arlena Montgomery of Elsmere; brothers, Elmer Goley of Burlington and James Goley of Independence; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Ceme tery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to First Church of Christ, 6080 Camp Ernst Road, Burlington, Ky. 41005.
Dorothy Jane Ashcraft, 73, of Hebron, died Wednesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a waitress.
Survivors include sons, Raymond Ashcraft and Jeff Ashcraft, both of Hebron; a sister, Pat Weber of Northbrook, Ill.; and a grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Saturday. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society NCICFUL, P. O. Box 102454, Atlanta, Ga. 30368.
George Fuehner, 70, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at Queen City Nursing Home, Cincinnati. He was a janitor and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include a sister, Marie Robinson of Corinth.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Catchen Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Eleanor "Nori" Huff, 67, of Elsmere, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a loan officer with Fifth Third Bank.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Huff; a daughter, Melody Slade of Newport; her mother, Helen Mitts of Bellevue; a brother, Earl "Sonny" Mitts of Newport; and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Hamilton County Animal Shelter, 3949 Colerain Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45223.
Mervin "Rocky" Jenkins, 69, of Falmouth, died Thursday at his home. He was an employee of the Pendleton County Road Department and the City of Falmouth, and was a member of Short Creek Baptist Church. Sons, Mikey Jenkins and Kilvin Jenkins, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Jenkins; sons, Roger Jenkins, Scott Jenkins, Tony Jenkins, Lanny Jenkins, Kevin Jenkins and Hank Jenkins, all of Falmouth, and Stacey Jenkins of Covington; daughters, Joanna Minks of Williamstown, Vickie Jolly and Tammy Jenkins, both of Falmouth; a brother, Melvin Jenkins of Cynthiana; sisters, Eileen Flynn and Betty Flynn, both of Falmouth, and Louise Perkins of Covington; and 18 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.
Harriet Leidy, 81, of Park Hills, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow.
Grace Mallicoat, 82, of Florence, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Belleview Baptist Church. Her husband, Henry Virgil Mallicoat, died in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Mallicoat of Union; a daughter, Pamela Wheeler of Florence; a sister, Mildred Stephens of Burlington; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery. Charles Virgil McGahee, 30, of Dayton, died Wednesday at his home. He was a cook with Frisch's restaurant, Bellevue.
Survivors include his parents, Charles and Brenda McGahee of Dayton; and brothers, Raymond McGahee of Newport, Kevin McGahee of Bellevue and Jeff McGahee and David McGahee, both of Dayton.

Donald Lee Rice, 59, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at his home. He was a retired construction worker and a deacon with Robinson Christian Church. A son, Donald Lee Rice Jr., preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Smith Rice; a son, David Lee Rice of Cynthiana; his mother, Edna Hyatt Rice of Cynthiana; a brother, Dennis R. Rice of Lexington; sisters, Doris Rice Beckett of Berry and Darlene Rice Ring of Cynthiana; two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Virginia Jo Smith, 69, of Foster, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a homemaker and a member of Lenoxburg Baptist Church, Bracken County.
Survivors include her husband, Calvin Smith; a daughter, Linda Lou Holbrook of Foster; a son, Jeffrey Lynn Smith of Powersville; a sister, Sylvia Lou Booth of Middletown, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lenoxburg Cemetery, Bracken County.
Rosie Turner, 91, of Corinth, died at 8:44 p.m. Wednesday at Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. She was a homemaker and a member of Corinth Baptist Church. Her husband, William Newton Turner, died in 1953. Daughters, Lovinda Noel and Katherine Dunaway, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Ervin R. Turner of Augusta, Ga.; a sister, Ada Howard of Harriman, Tenn.; a brother, Floyd Lonkard of Corinth; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery, Corinth.
Charles William Wallace, 53, of Covington, died Sunday in Covington. He was a construction worker and an Army veteran. Sons, Charles William Wallace and Albert Ray Wallace, and a daughter, Angela Carol May, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Linda Yvonne Fredericks of Garland, Texas, and Charlie Ann Wallace of Carrollton; his parents, Albert and Kathleen Wallace of Carroll County; sisters, Norma May of Wauseon, Ohio, and Martha Rabourn of Turners Station; brothers, Richard Wallace of Campbellsburg and Albert Wallace Jr. of Carrollton; and two grandchildren.
Services were Thursday at IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton. Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton, handled arrangements.
Loreen F. Zerges, 87, of Covington, died Wednesday at Villa Springs Care Center, Erlanger. She was a clerk with the Internal Revenue Service, and a member of Epworth Memorial Church in Covington, Covington Senior Citizens, West Covington Senior Citizens and Ludlow Senior Citizens. Her husband, John Zerges, died in 1981.
Survivors include a stepson, Joseph Zerges of Cincinnati; and nieces, Jeanine Bossman of Cincinnati and Judith Hein of Harrison, Ohio.
