Mary Elizabeth Vickers, 87, dedicated to family
Mary Elizabeth Vickers' life was dedicated to caring for children and providing for her family.
Besides raising seven children of her own, she also finished raising three brothers and one sister after her parents' death, and adopted and raised her three grandchildren after the untimely death of her daughter in a car accident.

"I've seen her poor face be so red from heat in the summer time, " said Wilson. "I've always said I'll never be the women my mother was."
After moving off the farm, Ms. Vickers worked outside the home in a number of capacities until she and her husband bought and ran E&H; Grocery store on Pike Street in Covington.
Even then she continued to care for hungry children in the neighborhood by giving them sandwiches and milk. "They all loved her, " recalled Wilson.
Ms. Vickers's husband, Harvey, died in 1977. She continued running the store until 1980 when she retired. She's remembered as a person who never gave up and did what she had to regardless of how bad she felt.
