Phoebe Eads, long-time Beechwood High secretary
Phoebe Eads became the person to turn to when people at Beechwood High School had problems.
Whether it was students not getting along with one another or staff members having a bad day, Mrs. Eads, the school's secretary, was at her desk with an ear tuned and ready advice, said her husband, Ray Eads.
"They seemed to confide in her more than the teachers, " he said.
Mrs. Eads, of Fort Wright, died from lung cancer Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington. She was 65.
Mrs. Eads worked for 18 years at the school, Ray said.
"All the kids, especially the girls, depended on her when they needed things, " he said.
For her involvement with the school, a tree will be planted alongside a plaque with her name in the school's yard, Ray said.
"She enjoyed it a lot and was a wonderful lady for them all, " he said.
Other survivors are her sons, Daniel Howard of Fairfield, Ohio, and Nicholas Eads of Elkridge, Md.; a daughter, Dinah Walsh of Batavia, Ohio; her parents, William and Betty Sturgeon of Warsaw; a brother, William "Bud" Sturgeon of Florence; a sister, Jean Braun of Park Hills; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.
Lisa Marie Anderson, 18, of Ewing, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday at Fleming County Hospital, Flemingsburg. She was an employee of the Subway restaurant in Flemingsburg.
Survivors include her parents, Ricky and Peggy Anderson; a sister, Laura Mae Anderson; and grandparents, June and Louis Anderson and Elsie and Ernie Johnson.
Services were this morning at Newport First Church of God. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
Margaret Allen, 84, of Burlington, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Helen E. Arbogast, 94, of Fort Mitchell, died at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday at Madonna Manor, Villa Hills. She was a tax examiner with the Internal Revenue Service. Her husband, Paul Arbogast, died in 1995.
Survivors include sons, Paul M. Arbogast Jr. of Maysville and Dr. Richard Arbogast of Ogden, Utah; daughters, Florence Newman of Paintsville and Mary Ellen Hackman of Fort Wright; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Madonna Manor Chapel. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Matilda A. Brandner, 92, of Fort Mitchell, died at 12:02 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. She was a retired office clerk with Messenger Diocesan Publications and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the church.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.

She was a preschool teacher for Julie Learning Center, Park Hills.

Shelva Earle Collier, 88, of Louisville, formerly of Pendleton County, died Wednesday at Pallative Care Baptist East Hospital, Louisville. He was a retired employee of the former Louisville Transit Co. and TARC, a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, Jeffersontown Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Falls Cities Woodcarvers Guild, all in Louisville.
Survivors include his wife, Leoma Clayton Collier; a daughter, Serena Zielberg; a brother, Emil Collier; a grandson and two great-grandchildren.

James N. Groeschen, 72, of Highland Heights, fied at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday at his St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired carpenter with Carpenters Union Local 126 in Cincinnati, a member of St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring and the church STP organization, and was a Korean War veteran.

Martha Gayle C. Hardgrove, 79, of Lexington, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday at University Medical Center, Lexington. She was a retired teacher and a member of Tates Creek Christian Church in Paris, Order of the Eastern Star and Bradford Star chapter No. 492.

Henrietta Huber, 97, of Grants Lick, died Wednesday at her home.
She was a sales clerk with Banachs and a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Bellevue. She cooked and served lunch to the Bellevue Rotary Club at the church for many years, and was a member of Cincinnati Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a sister, Ursula B. Carpenter of Grants Lick; nieces and nephews.

Lawrence Joseph Richard, 57, of Wilder, died Sunday at his home. He was a disabled Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a son, John Richard of Wilder; a daughter, Melanie Richard of Newport; stepdaughters, April Ortez of Newport and Hope Franklin of Elsmere; a brother, Raymond Richard Jr. of Cold Spring; a sister, Regina Clos of Silver Grove; four grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.

David L. Schaar, 73, of Fort Mitchell, died at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday at Meadowbrook Care Center, Cincinnati. He was a member of First Church of Christian Science in Newport.

William S. Tytko, 69, of Independence, died June 20 at his home. He was an elevator installer and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
