Kenneth Howard, 89, retired truck driver
Kenneth Howard always had an answer for everything, said his nephew, Steve Rardin.
"You'd say something funny, and he'd say something right back, " Rardin said.
When they discussed his funer al arrangements about three years ago, Rardin suggested having six of his nephews act as pallbearers.
Howard replied that would be OK, "as long as you remember to set me down easy."
Mr. Howard, 89, of Melbourne, died at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
He was a retired truck driver for Prestress Services Inc.
He hauled pre-cast beams for bridges, some of them up to 70 feet long.
The family often joked about Mr. Howard, a wiry man not more than 5 feet tall, driving a big rig and hauling such large cargo, Rardin said.
During World War II, he served in the Air Force, fueling planes.
He often told the story of how he fu eled up the plane for movie actor and singer Gene Autry.
One of his greatest pleasures was gardening.
He raised corn and tomatoes at his home in Melbourne, and did mowing and other work for neighbors using his Ford tractor.
His wife, Esther Howard, died in 1991.
Survivors include a sister, Opal Walton of Newport.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Alexandria Funeral Home.
Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Virginia Carroll England, 75, of Goshen, Ohio, died Sunday at Clermont Mercy Hospital, Batavia, Ohio.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, Richard Cecil England, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Judy Gayle Jones of Middletown, Ohio, and Carol Ann Strathman of Goshen, Ohio; a brother, Gordon Mullikin of Kentucky; sisters, Mary Pollitt of Goshen, Ohio, Edna Reid and Judy Linville, both of Washington, and Julie Kelley of Mount Olivet; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Brooksville Cemetery.
Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville, is handling arrangements.
Roy Hemmingway, 43, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
There are no immediate survivors.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. C&C; Mortuary, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Thelma M. Mistler Lux, 79, of Edgewood, died Tuesday at Villa Springs, Erlanger.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Pius X Church, Edgewood.
Survivors include her husband, Maurice W. Lux; sons, Stephen W. Lux of Louisville, Thomas J. Lux of Edgewood and Richard L. Lux of Fort Mitchell; a sister, Jane Quigley of Villa Hills; a brother, Thomas Mistler of Edgewood; and six grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger.
Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Angelene Cook Miles, 86, of Erlanger, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
She was a retired manager with Stouffers Restaurant, Chicago.
Her husband, Charles Miles, and a son, Alan Miles, both died in 1997.
Survivors include nieces and a nephew.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport.
Entombment will be in Evergreen Mausoleum, Southgate.

Diana Shelburne, 54, of Newport, died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Shelburne of Newport.

Carrie Kathleen Smalling, 21, of Bromley, died Saturday in Silver Grove.
Survivors include daughters, Ivy Marie Prichard and Courtney Jade Shaw, both of Newport; her parents, John and Jane Smalling of Newport; sisters, Tisha Bowen of Bromley, Christina Crank of Newport, Chasity Armstrong of Erlanger, Cheryl Rogers and Theresa Burton, both of Florida; a brother, Keith Smalling of Florida; and grandparents, Bernice Smalling and Cecilia Crank, both of Newport.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Erlanger.
Sylvia H. Webster Thomas, 96, of Dry Ridge, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown.
She was a homemaker and a member of Dry Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Bronson Webster of Dry Ridge; a daughter, Joycetta Ferrill of Burlington; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.
Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

David Tomlin, 69, of Williamstown, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired farm worker.
Survivors include a sister, Doris Marie Gregory of Cincinnati; a half-sister, Ruth Helen Omar of Cincinnati; and a half-brother, Ronald Banfield of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.
Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday.
Burial will be in Gardnersville Cemetery.
