Thomas J. Morales
Thomas J. Morales, age 90, of Mankato, Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Hilltop United Methodist Church in Mankato with Rev. Randy Koppen officiating. Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Pine Ridge born in Villanueva, Zacatecas, Mexico on December 29, 1914 to Micaela (Hernandez) and Vidol Morales. Tom’s family moved to the United States when he was 2 years old and first settled in Chicago, Illinois and later in Oelwein, Iowa. In his school years, Tom excelled in football and basketball and was captain of the basketball team. On July 25, 1938, he death by his parents; wife in 1997; two brothers and a sister.
John B. Zyskowski
John Bernard Zyskowski, age 88, entered his heavenly home on Monday, April 18, 2005 at the St. Peter Health Care Center, St. Peter, MN. A service will be held at the St. Peter HCC gathering room on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastors Greg Stone and Bruce Pope officiating. Visitation and viewing is one hour prior to the service. A Cemetery, Iron River, MI. Memorials are preferred to the Iron River Assembly of God Church where he worshiped, or to the St. Peter HCC Resident’s Fund. The St. Peter HCC staff is to be highly commended for their exceptional care and compassionate love for John who resided there since October of 2000, and Linda since January of 2004.
John was married Linda Besonen from Trout Creek, MI on December 24, 1939 in Chicago, IL. They moved back to Iron River, where John worked for M.A. Hanna Co. as an iron miner. He left the company to serve his country during WWII as a Seaman First Class stationed in Hawaii and Rhode Island. John was discharged in 1946, and again worked for M.A. Hanna until his retirement at age 55 with a disability.
John and Linda wintered in Florida for many years. He enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing, hunting, and gardening. Everyone was his friend and he loved to “chew the fat”. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his “off the cuff” quips, his uncommon wisdom and his love for family and God.
John is survived by his wife, Linda; three children, Gerald James (Marilyn) Zyskowski of North Mankato, Daniel Zyskowski of Iron River, MI, Carol (James) Coleman of Shrewsbury, MA; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kristen) Zyskowski of Maple Grove, MN, Christy (Kevin) Schmidt of Antigo, WI, Lisa Zyskowski of Antigo, WI, Julie (Jon) Conner of Mankato, MN, James Coleman Jr. of Shrewsbury, MA, and Debra Mildenberger of Tomahawk, WI, great-grandchildren, Ryan and Katie Zyskowski, Cody and Jacob Schmidt, Brandon and Tyler Wild, Alysson Schaal and Zachary Mildenberger;. a sister, Victoria (John) Savich of Mt. Home, AK; two brothers, Walter (Delphine)Zyskowski of Apple Valley, CA and Thomas (Katherine) Zyskowski of Iron River, MI; nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in died Monday, April 18, 2005 at Immanuel-St. Joseph’s Hospital, Mankato.
Memorial service 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2005 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Vernon Center, with Rev. Thomas Lock officiating. Visitation Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary. Cemetery, Good Thunder. Memorials may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Sibley Manor.
Dorothy was death by her husband Russell in 1999; two brothers, Ed and Russell “Bud”; son-in-law, John Cooper.
Leona Schalow
Leona A. Schalow, age 75 of rural Mankato Interment in St. John’s Ev. Lutheran born November 5, 1929 in North Mankato to Carl and Adeline (Weirauch) Buhr. She graduated form Mankato High School in 1947 and later from Mankato State College. She also graduated from Minneapolis School of Art Walker Art Center and Western Colorado Center for the Arts. She was united in marriage to Duane Schalow on December 23, 1956 in St. Clair, he death by her parents and husband.
Arlene Meier
Arlene Mae Meier age 83, of North Mankato, Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal with Rev. Nancy Dreier officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour before services at the church on Monday.
Arlene was married Martin “Pat” Meier in Lake Crystal. Arlene owned and operated Meier’s Café in Lake Crystal, Skyview Café, Andy’s Café, and Ron’s Grill in Mankato. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal, American Legion Auxiliary in Hanska, Sons of Norway, and a Gold Star Mother. She enjoyed bowling, card playing, and ballroom dancing.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Boyd and Laura Meier of Lake Crystal, Greg and Annie Meier of St. Peter; three grandchildren, Crystal, Dustin, and Nicole; a brother, Marlow Halverson and wife, Adeline of Madelia; sister-in-law, Betty Halverson of New Ulm; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in died April 12, 2005, at Good Counsel Convent, Mankato, Minnesota.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Good Counsel Chapel, with Fr. Syl Brown as celebrant. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Good Counsel, with Vespers in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. Visitation is also one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge.
Sister Eileen was death. Over the years, she earned a B.E. in Education from Mount Mary College, Milwaukee.
Sister is survived by three sisters, Bernadine Dickey (Cecil), Margaret Flintrop (Joe), and Teresa Francis, three sisters-in-law, Marian Caven, Eleanor Caven, and Donna Caven, a brother-in-law, Robert Fitzsimmons, many nieces and nephews and by her Sisters in Community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in died Monday, April 11, 2005 at the St. Peter Health Care Center.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 - 6 p.m., at Mankato Mortuary. Private graveside services will be Smiths Mill born July 29, 1920 to Julius and Ida (Franske) Linde in Janesville, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Flitter on August 18, 1948 in Mankato. Delmer farmed in with his father and then was a truck driver for Stankey Livestock, North Star, and SMC before retiring.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Marjorie (Gordon) Robeck of St. Peter; nieces, nephews, the employee’s at SMC and friends.
Preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie.
