Willard “Willie” Clapper
Willard “Willie” Clapper, 74, of St. Peter born July 9th, 1933, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Mary (Aldrich) Clapper and Guy Clapper. Willie has been married Margaret “Toni” Bie September 28th, 1957 in Askov, Minnesota. Toni gladly said yes, enchanted with his black, thick, wavy hair and handsome features. They both recall their adventures in Alaska together. Between the long hours of working on the dock, Willie was picking up 200+ pound Halibut for a one dollar bet, or putting smoke bombs in the outside oven as a joke. Toni worked long hours at the cannery, and made homemade bread everyday.
Returning back to Minnesota, they decided to adopt a baby girl-Michelle. As a hard-working provider he was employed as a salesman, convenience store manager, baker, and courtesy driver. Friendly to everyone, he always greeted people with a smile and jovial mannerism. Little kids had a special place in his heart, him giving them generous gifts of candy at the store and bags of Lay’s potato chips on Halloween.
Willie had a passion for antiques, especially for old cars. Being able to identify make and model by sight, he had special passion for Packards. He enjoyed carpentry, music by Marty Robbins and Johnny Cash, Country and Reminisce magazines, occasional trips to the casino, and football. He enjoyed banana layer cake made by Toni, mince-meat pie-though no one could make it as good as his mother. He and Michelle shared many long walks together with Mitty the dog, motorcycle rides, and building “something” together.
He will be remembered by loving wife Toni of 50 years; daughter Michelle (Tim) Fineran of Lake Crystal, MN.; sister Barb(Jerry) Fritz of Siren, WI; sister-in-laws Sylvia (Stan) Hoffman of Kilian, MN and Pat (Jack) Clapper of St. Paul, MN; in-laws their spouses; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the Waterville Good Samaritan Center.
Mildred was death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Sandra Balfe; six brothers; and one sister.
Visitation will be held on Sunday March 16, 2008 from 3-7 PM at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville, and will continue on Monday for one hour prior to services at the church.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 17, 2008 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elysian, with Rev. Russ Grabau officiating. Cemetery in Elysian.
Iris M. Weston
Mankato resident, Iris M. Weston, age 90, Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
Iris was passed away on March 5, 2008.
Survived by ever loving wife, Marjorie; children, Barbara Wold, Karen (Aron) Yngve and their children, Kaia and Reed, David (Jane Tomick) Wold and their children, Scott and Grant; sister, Annette Poole of Fergus Falls, MN.
Long time resident of Mankato, MN. Mr. Wold was owner and operator of Mankato City Lines since 1938. In World War II, he was a United States Naval veteran serving in the invasions of Algeria, Palermo, Salermo, Naples, Anzio, and Normandy. In retirement he was a resident of Scottsdale, AZ and Minnetonka, MN.
There will be a private memorial at a later date. Memorials to: Shriners Hospital, 2025 E. River Parkway, Mpls., MN 55414 or donor’s choice.
Merlin Blais
Merlin Blais, 95, of Gibbon, cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon on Friday.
Merlin is survived by a daughter: Anita Blais of Redwood Falls; sons and daughters-in-law: R. Mark and Lou Ann Blais of Lake Crystal, Steven and Sally Blais of Madison Lake; grandchildren: Robert and Jennifer Blais, Travis James and Missy Blais, Doug and Jean Stavenau, Brandie Kae and Corey Whitcomb, Jason and Carolyn Blais. Kimberly and Dr. Dwight Stoll, Rebecca Blais and fiancé Brandon Tarvers, Christopher Blais and special friend, Gretchen Swedberg; great grandchildren: Abbi and Mason Blais, Tanner and Hannah Blais, Mitch, Emma and Andrea Stavenau, Saffron Blais and Eli Stoll; sister: Eileen Sleeman; brother, Father Melvin Blais; 7 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in born on November 7, 1912 to Henry and Maude (Rice) Blais in Dayton, Minnesota. He was a 1930 graduate of Elk River High School. On August 28, 1943 he was united in marriage to Arabella M. Zachman in St. Michael, Minnesota. In 1945 he started Zachman Equipment with his father-in-law and Mike Posl. Merlin retired from the business in 1976. He also transported blood for the American Red Cross and was Payroll Master for WPA Camp McCoy when it was being constructed. Merlin enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, reading, word searches, puzzles and crossword puzzles. He especially enjoyed beating the grandchildren in checkers. He was a member of the St. Willibrord’s Catholic Church, where he was a trustee for 20+ years. He was also a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus Anoka Council.
Marilyn Beth Hall
Marilyn Beth Hall, age 76 of Madelia, born June 1, 1931 in Bigelow, MN to Stoddard Stevens and Mary Martha (Evans) Wick. She graduated from Worthington High School in 1949. On September 19, 1949 she born. They also lived for a time in Kewanee, IL and eventually settled in Des Moines, IA where their daughter Laura was death by her parents, her husband Robert in 1987, 4 sisters, Beulah, Mary, Hazel and Elva and brothers George and Marvin.
Marilyn greatly enjoyed the many years of being a “snowbird, ” wintering in Mesa, AZ and spending summers in Minnesota. She and Vern had an active social life in Mesa where they enjoyed golfing, card playing, dining out, and many other activities with a large group of friends. She also enjoyed summers at the farm in Lewisville where she helped with gardening and yard work, watched birds and wildlife, and enjoyed golfing at the Madelia Golf Course, and visits from her family.Her family wishes to express thanks to friends and family who have given their time, love, prayers and support following Marilyn’s diagnosis of cancer last spring. It is truly a blessing to know so many care. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
