Laura Betty (Stewert) Heilman
Laura Betty (Stewert) Heilman, age 75 of St. Peter, Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2008 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Matthew Rauh officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National born on January 29, 1933 in Santa Monica, CA to Sam and Ida (Gains) Stewert. She graduated from Mark Capple High School in El Hambra. She death by her parents; husband, Rollin; and a son, James.
James Donald “Jim” Swenson
James Donald “Jim” Swenson, age 53 of Mankato, Cemetery, Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Jim, married to Maria Zernechel and together had three sons. Jim enjoyed fishing, puzzles, and playing chess. Jim was also an artist and enjoyed creating artwork.
He is survived by three sons, Jamisen (Janeen) Swenson of St. Peter, Benjamin Swenson of Mankato, and Nickolas Swenson of Duluth; two granddaughters, Emily and Aubrey Swenson; mother, Donna Lou Swenson of Mankato; sister, Ann (Clay) Pierce of Ames, IA; brother, Bob (Jenni) Swenson of Chaska; four nieces and one nephew; aunts, Bonnie Carson, Frankie Stevenson both of Des Moines, IA, Barbara Gauger of Waseca; and many cousins.
Jim was preceded in died from complications of small-cell lung cancer at her home on Monday, Feb. 11, 2008.
She was 72. Mrs. McGowan was married Joe McGowan in 1952. The marriage later ended in divorce. Mrs. McGowan spent her life as a floral designer in San Diego and Durango, where she worked at south City Market during busy holiday periods. She moved to Durango in 2000. Mrs. McGowan was a member of the prayer ministry for the Church of Religious Science and was the youth group leader in San Diego for many years. She was an avid reader, interior decorator and watercolor painter.
Mrs. McGowan was preceded in died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato with Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Visitation will be held at from 4-7 p.m., Monday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Tuesday. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Glenwood born May 24, 1929 to Ira Jacob and Mary Martha (Mimetz) Hensel in North Mankato, MN. She graduated from Good Counsel Academy. She was united in marriage to John F. “Jack” Jones Jr., on August 7, 1948 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Mankato. Audrey worked at Hillcrest and Mankato House Health Care Centers as activities director retiring in 1985. She was also on the patient review board at the St. Peter Security Hospital for over 20 years. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and its church circle. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and enjoyed oil painting, bowling, gardening, cooking, antiquing, bird watching, and sewing.
Audrey is survived by five children, Gail (J.C.) Jones of Mankato, Nancy (Paul) Watson of Columbia Falls, MT, Chuck (Michelle) Jones of Brownton, Cari White of San Clemente, CA, and Dan (Mary) Jones of Brooklyn Park; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and surrogate children.
Audrey was preceded in died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 11:00 AM, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elmore, with Rev. Dale Kohrs officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran born September 30, 1927, at Elmore Township, MN, the son of Henry and Hilda (Madetzke) Zierke. Merle was raised and educated in the Elmore area where he was a 1945 graduate of Elmore High School. Following school he helped farm his family farm before entering the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. He returned home and was later death by his parents, a son, Jeff, in 1992.
George E. Carlstrom Jr.
George E. Carlstrom Jr., age 76, of North Mankato, born January 13, 1932 to George E. and Gladys (Sebey) Carlstrom Sr. in Mankato. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1950. He was united in marriage to Darlene “Dolly” Overlie on July 26, 1953 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato. George served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He went to work for his father at George E. Carlstrom Construction and George was eventually named president of the Carlstrom Construction Company, Carlstrom Steel Supply, and New Ulm Quartzite Quarries. Carlstrom Construction built many of the Taylor Corporation buildings in Mankato and Minneapolis; the fine arts complex, Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library, and Nobel Science Hall at Gustavus Adolphus College; Mankato Citizens Telephone office; the Student Union and Armstrong Hall at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He also built Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the addition at Grace Lutheran Church both in Mankato.
George was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Elks Club, and was on the Board of Directors at Valley National Bank. George enjoyed being in his home, working crossword puzzles, cooking, and was an avid reader. Most Saturday afternoons he could be found in Morton, MN enjoying the game of chance and the many friends he had.
George is survived by his wife, Dolly of North Mankato and Phoenix, AZ; three children, Jeffrey Carlstrom of Mankato, Karene “Kari” Merkow, and Todd Carlstrom both of Phoenix, AZ; two grandchildren, Meghan (Rick) Weisheit, and Aaron David Merkow both of Phoenix, AZ; brother Steven L. Carlstrom; aunt Mary Anderson of North Mankato; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
George was preceded in died Monday March 3rd at Mankato House Healthcare Center in Mankato.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7th, 2008 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Nicollet. Cemetery. Rev. Ron Siemers will officiate the service.Visitation will be held Thursday, March 6th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet. Visitation will continue on Friday for one hour prior to the time of service at the church.
Gerhardt Edwin Schmidt was death by his parents Otto and Bertha Schmidt, brothers, William, Arthur and Herbert and sisters Viola, Edna, Helen and Clara.
