Marcella G. Oachs
Marcella Grace Oachs, age 87, of Mankato, Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2011 at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in North Mankato, with Rev. Roger Knepprath officiating. Cemetery, Sterling Township. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at North Mankato Mortuary – NORTHVIEW, 2060 Commerce Drive, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Marcella was death by her parents; husband, Leslie in 1998; one son; two daughters; and three brothers.
Dale Windhorn
Dale Windhorn, age 85 of St. Peter born on October 19, 1925 in Mankato to Alfred and Ethel (Korsell) Windhorn. He attended Franklin School and is a graduate of Mankato High School. Dale served in the United States Army from December 20, 1943 until his honorable discharge on April 30, 1946. During this time, he was in Central Europe during WWII and received a purple heart for injuries during the Battle of the Rhine. He then furthered his education at Gustavus Adolphus College, graduating in 1949 with a degree in physics. He was united in Marriage to Beatrice L. Sather on August 29, 1947 in Cokato, MN. After his schooling, he worked as a civil engineer for Bolton & Menk, retiring in 2004 after 54 years with them. He enjoyed reading, working Sudokus, watching tennis, playing pfeffer and bridge, entertaining guests and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children: Allen (Laura) of Kasota and Karen (Jon) Smithers of St. Peter; grandchildren: Jonas Windhorn of North Mankato, Claire (fiancé Jeremy Zimprich) of Waseca, and Amanda Wright and her family of West Lafayette IN.
He was preceded in passed away at the Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter on the 1st of July at the age of 99. She was married Michael Hyduke on the June 17, 1 93 8 in Santa Barbara, California, near the home of her sister Raphie. The couple made their home in St. Peter where Mike had accepted a high school teaching and coaching job and Delcie gave birth to their first child, Sonja. Mike and Delcie moved to Brainerd where sons Michael Jr. and David were death by husband Michael in 2002, son Michael Jr., sister Raphie, nephew Robert Gribble, brothers Vernold and Willard, sister-in-law Sophie, and brothers-in-law Nick and Vic. Delcie is survived by daughter Sonja and Sonja's husband Doug of Winter Haven, Florida, by son David of Kasota, sisters in-law Hartley Nelson of Schafer, Mary Nelson of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Saturday, July 9 at 10 am with services at 11 am at St. Peter Funeral Home – Klein Chapel, Rev. Alan Bray of St. Peter's First Lutheran Church officiating. Memorials to be sent to First Lutheran Church, 1114 W. Traverse Road, St. Peter, Minnesota 56082.
Marie E. Nelson
Marie E. Nelson, age 91, of Honolulu, Hawaii and formerly of Faribault, Interment will be at the St. Columbanus born on December 6, 1919 in Austin, MN. She graduated from Blooming Prairie High School where she was a cheerleader and drum majorette. She death on September 30, 2001. She loved to dance, bowl, oil paint, and play golf. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Faribault Golf & Country Club, a life member of District One Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Faribault Eagles Auxiliary, Faribault Art Center, Minnesota Hospital Circulation Chairperson, State Hospital Auxiliary, and Divine Mercy Church. Marie was on the board of directors for the Red Cross, and helped start the Meals-On-Wheels program at District One Hospital.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Ronald Nelson and his wife, Luci, of Honolulu, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Debra A. Nelson of Aurora, CO, Michael T. Nelson of Sauk Village, IL, Sharon M. Nelson-Olivas and her husband, Frank of Flagstaff, AZ, and Ronald T. Nelson Jr. and his wife, Connie of College Station, TX; 15 great grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in died on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at her residence in Colony Court in Waseca, MN.
Geralda “Jerry” Stella was married Dwayne Eshleman on September 21, 1940, in Wilmont, MN. They moved to a farm near Rushmore, MN, and lived there from 1942 - 1982. She was an extremely creative person and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crafting, cards, and flowers. Jerry also enjoyed performing skits with the Worthington Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington.
Jerry is survived by two daughters, Terri (Reuben) Elg of Apple Valley, MN and their children, Tanya (Richard) Rogers and their daughter, Kylaiah and Ryan Elg, all of St. Paul, MN, and Dawn (Paul) Nelemans of Waseca, MN, and their children, Brittini Nelemans of San Francisco, CA, and Cassidy Nelemans of Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington. McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca provided local assistance.
Michael Bohnert
Michael Bohnert, age 65, of Mankato, born on August 31, 1945 in Mankato to Anthony and Helen (Howe) Bohnert. He graduated from Mankato West High School in 1963. Mike served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. On May 25, 1966, Mike was united in marriage to Darlene Leines in Virginia Beach. He worked for Marigold Dairies, Dunlop Meats, and Pepsi Co. which he retired from in 2007. Mike worked part-time at Lowe's during his retirement. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family.
Mike is survived by his wife Darlene of Mankato; daughter, Molly (Kevin) Lillo of Stillwater and their children Joseph and Justin Lillo and daughter Melissa (John) Massa of Mankato and their children Kayley and Amanda Massa; twin sister, Vicki (Jim) Goodwater of Battle Creek, NE; brother, Jack (Karyl) Bohnert of Wilmar, MN; father-in-law, Duane Leines; sisters-in-law, Dianne Moore, Caron Michels, and Christine Christenson. He is preceded in born at Union Hospital in New Ulm on September 23, 1955 to Dennis Buck and Elva Hanson Buck. The Buck family left New Ulm when Laura was just four years old, and returned when Laura was 15—a sophomore at New Ulm Sr. High School. Laura graduated from New Ulm Sr. High School in 1973. She subsequently attended the Vocational Institute in Eau Claire, Wisconsin receiving an Associate’s Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management and Culinary Arts in 1975. In the early ‘80s, Laura also attended Mankato Area Vocational Technical Institute, receiving a second Associate’s degree in Marketing.
Laura had been an employee of Kraft Foods for most of her career, prior to which she worked at 3M, and at various restaurants in Minnesota and Wisconsin. A single mother, Laura devoted herself to the care and nurturing of her only child, Sarah Tarbox Schmidt. Laura had a great love of flower gardening, and her hobby of antique collecting brought an eclectic mix to her home. She looked forward to opportunities to socialize with family and friends, but one of her greatest passions was cooking for others. Laura is known within the Kraft community for her famous Italian Dinners, a much sought-after annual charity raffle prize. Laura’s friendly and spirited personality won her many friends, and she will be dearly missed.
Laura is survived by her daughter, Sarah Tarbox Schmidt and husband Russ Schmidt of Mankato; her sisters, Constance Wilke and husband Steve Wilke of Lakeville, MN and Renee Buck of Boston, MA; and her brothers, James Buck and wife Kelly of Cottage Grove, MN and James Stordahl and fiancée Melody Nedrud of Portage, MI; and special friend, Jim Weller of New Ulm.
Laura is preceded in death by her brother Merle Buck, sister Susan Buck, mother Elva Buck, and father Dennis Buck.
