Barbara Fenske

New Ulm - Barbara Fenske, 60, of New Ulm, Cemetery. Visitation is at Schmucker born December 18, 1950, in Mankato to Charles and Bernadine Blackstad. The family moved to Worthington in 1953. She graduated from Worthington High School in 1968 and what is now Minnesota State University Mankato in 1972. While student teaching in New Ulm she was offered a second grade position by then principal Frank Heck beginning in the fall of 1972 at Jefferson Elementary School.

She met Bruce Fenske on January 11, 1974 and they were "scheduled" to be born on January 13, 1977. Today he is a structural engineer with Halvorson and Partners in Chicago.

A daughter Sara was died in 1976 and her step-mother, Ruth, passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 with her family at her bedside at Autumn Grace Nursing Home in Mankato.

Cemetery, Mankato. Landkamer Johnson-Boman Funeral Home assisted the family.

Marie LaVonne Rivers was married James Rivers on March 3, 1945 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. Marie was a member of the St. Bernadette Guild and volunteered at Good Counsel. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Marie is survived by 7 children; Susan (Bary) Long of North Mankato, Jeanne (Jim) Ramaker of Shakopee, Jim (Julie) Rivers of Mankato, Mary (Andy) Lucas of Fairmont, Chris (Nancy) Rivers of Vail, CO, Dan (Clare) Rivers of North Mankato, Paul (Char) Rivers of Mankato; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; and twin sister, Marion Vosburgh.

Marie was preceded in born June 7, 1937 in Sibley County. After graduating from Winthrop High School in 1955, she worked for General Mills in Minneapolis. Janet was united in marriage to Charles Youngblom August 11, 1957 in Winthrop. Together, the couple farmed in Lafayette Township, the fourth generation working on the family farm. Janet was a loving wife and mother and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed travel, reading, gardening, cooking and making lefse. She was a member of the Lafayette Study Club. Janet was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette where she served on the Church Board and the Fields of Grace Board. She also sang in the church choir and was active in many other church activities.

Survivors include her husband Charles of Lafayette; children Nora Stauner and her husband John of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Kay Youngblom-Selders of LeSueur, Bill Youngblom and his wife Linda of Lafayette, Tom Youngblom and his wife Diana of Winthrop, Paulette Johnson and her husband Doug of Lakeville, Karl Youngblom and his wife Rachel of Lake Crystal; 13 grandchildren, Benjamin Riker and his wife Ann, Christopher and Sarah Stauner, Alicia and Nicholas Selders, Katie and Nicole Johnson, Kristin, Michelle, Brittany Youngblom and her fiance David Cook, Emily, Nikyta and Jaydan Youngblom; one great-grandchild Lucas Riker; sister Ruby Miller of Havana, IL, brother Jerry Bern and his wife Linda of Portland, OR, sister Mary Ann Sloke and her husband Stewart of Los Angeles, CA; sister-in-law Betty Mathews of Anoka; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Janet was preceded in passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at her home following a sudden illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of St. Patrick, Shieldsville (7525 Dodd Road) in Shieldsville. Cemetery in Shieldsville.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault on Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bethlehem Academy High School in memory of Margaret.

Margaret Cecilia Dudley, the daughter of William & Mary Angella (Angie) (McBreen) Dudley, was death on January 16, 1996. Margaret was a school teacher for over forty five years in both the rural Shieldsville schools and the Faribault Public Schools. She was the last teacher in Minnesota to hold class in a rural school house. Margaret enjoyed music, which led her to playing both the organ and piano at the Church of St. Patrick in Shieldsville for over forty years. In 1995, Margaret was nominated to the “Good Neighbor” award from WCCO Radio. In 2000, she was also honored by the Archdiocesan of St. Paul Council of Catholic Women for a lifetime of voluntary work in her church. She enjoyed bird watching, quilting, volunteering time at church and playing cards.

She is survived by her children, William (Catherine) Oppegard of Shieldsville, Saverna Chapman of St. Paul, David (Karen) Oppegard of Plymouth, Victoria Bishko of Arizona, Ramona Liverseed of Faribault and Theresa Downs of Faribault; her sixteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; by her sister Angella (Lucian) Kroska of Rochester and by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Walter Vincent Oppegard, a daughter Margaret (Peggy) Schorn on October 24, 2010, her husband Walter Vernon, two wonderful sons-in-law, Greg Liverseed and Richard Downs, three sisters and two brothers.
