Kayla Marie Lough
Kristen Jo Lough
Kayla Marie Lough and Kristen Jo Lough, infant twin daughters of Steven and Christine Lough of New Ulm, were stillborn May 8, 2002, at New Ulm Medical Center. Private family graveside services were held Saturday at New Ulm City Cemetery. Firle Funeral Home of New Ulm handled the arrangements.
In addition to their parents, survivors include their sister, Natalie Lough at home; paternal grandmother, Nadeen Lough of New Ulm; paternal grandfather, LeRoy Lough of Houston, Tex.; great-grandmothers, Calif. He graduated from high school in Whittier in 1928 and received a BA degree from Whittier College in 1932, and later a general secondary teaching credential from the University of Southern California Edison Company in the utility division, from 1945-1973 until his retirement. John and Bessie lived in Whittier, California, and serving on it's board of directors, La Mirada Symphony Orchestra and also playing in the community band and singing in chorus.
John is survived by his step-sons, Lyle and wife Colleen Rasmussen of Kasson and Boyd Rasmussen of Oakdale; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Scott Dennis Schroeder
Scott Dennis Schroeder, 18, Hancock, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Hancock. Funeral services were held Friday at Hancock High School, with interment in Lakeside Cemetery, rural Hancock. Pedersen Funeral Home, Morris, handled the arrangements.
Scott, the son of Dennis and Karen (Evers) Schroeder, was born Jan. 19, 1984 in Sleepy Eye, and was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye. In 1990, he moved with his family to Hancock and was later confirmed at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morris. Scott received his education in Hancock and would have graduated with the Hancock High School class of 2002, on Friday, May 17. Scott enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling and slalom water skiing. He was also very mechanically inclined and could take apart and fix almost anything he touched. Most of all, Scott loved spending time with his family and friends.
Scott is survived by his parents, Dennis and Karen Schroeder of Hancock; brothers, Ryan Schroeder of Hancock, Dusty (Kim) Schroeder of Willmar, and Cory Schroeder of Hancock; grandparents, Claus Evers of Sleepy Eye and Marcella Schroeder of Fairfax; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mildred Evers and LeRoy Schroeder.
Serving as casket bearers were Matthew Evers, Steven Schroeder, Corey Bedel, Daniel Evers, Jeremy Brown and Wade Bemmels. Serving as honorary pallbearers for the service were the Hancock High School class of 2002 and the faculty and staff of the Hancock High School.
Joseph F. Schueller
Joseph F. Schueller, 55, Brainerd, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at his home. Funeral services were held Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
Joe was born July 28, 1946, the son of E.A. "Tony" and Leona (Seidl) Schueller. He grew up in Sleepy Eye, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1964. He attended Mankato State University. After graduating, he worked in road construction for Minnesota State Patrol. He served in the St. Paul, St. Cloud, Mankato, Virginia and Brainerd districts. He retired on July 31, 2001, after 25 years of service, the last 11 years as captain of the Brainerd district. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, auto racing, pontooning, snowmobiling, German music and spending time with family and friends.
Joe is survived by his wife, Carolyn Schueller of Brainerd; sisters, Marie and husband William R. Weber of Chanhassen, Elaine and husband Patrick Berdan of Burnsville; and Deb and husband Doug Brandl of Sleepy Eye; brother, John and wife Gwen Schueller of Sleepy Eye; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, Robert in 1949.
Casket bearers were Al Arneson, Steve Hillesheim, Bill Ibberson, Bob Ibberson, Jerry Steffen and Jerome Kretzman.
Leonard A. Dietz
Leonard A. Dietz, 82, Sleepy Eye, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis. Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery with military rites. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Leonard was born July 2, 1919, the son of Joseph and Agnes (Krzmarzick) Dietz. He grew up in Sleepy Eye, graduating from St. Mary's High School. Leonard served in the United States Army during WWII for four-and-a-half years, two-and-a-half of those years were spent serving overseas. On Aug. 12, 1946, Leonard married Agnes Macheledt in her home town of Fairfax, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. The couple owned King Koin Laundry Mat and Leonard worked for the Coca-Cola Company for over 40 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Eagles and the VFW. Leonard enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching western and police shows on TV. Leonard also loved food, especially dessert. He also loved to play with and spend time with his six grandchildren.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Agnes Dietz of Sleepy Eye; son, Robert Dietz of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Alice and husband Mike Chernich of Las Vegas, Nev., Diann and husband Brian Wiederich of Le Sueur, and Mary and husband Dennis Macho of Bloomington; grandchildren, Celena, Connor and KaSondra Wiederich, and Justin, Jennifer and Brandon Macho; brothers, Joseph Dietz of Sleepy Eye and Art Dietz of Markesan, Wisc.; and sister, Agnes Modaht of La Crosse, Wisc. He was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Agnes; baby sister, Mary; and brothers, Ray Dietz and Edward Dietz.
Casket bearers were Dennis Macho, Dick Ginn, Mike Chernich, Brian Wiederich, Mike Wiederich and Randy Wiederich.
Michael Ladd
Michael Ladd, 45 of Watertown, S.D., formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, May 20, 2002 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. Funeral services were held Friday at the American Reformed Church of Luverne, with interment in Luverne Memory Gardens Cemetery in Luverne.
Mike was born Oct. 31, 1956, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Watson and Mary (Remus) Ladd. He grew up in Sleepy Eye, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1976. His education continued at Wadena Vocational Technical College in Wadena, graduating in 1978. Mike was first employed in Marshall. In 1980, he began working for the Eagles Club in Worthington as manager. Mike married Gracia Shelton on July 10, 1981 in Worthington. The couple moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. in 1982, and returned to North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. for two years where she majored in music. Veronica married Victor P. Weicherding on Jan. 30, 1929, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. She made Sleepy Eye her home all her life. She was employed for many years at the McKnight Store and the Davis Store. Veronica was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers and the CCW. Veronica was an avid reader, sewer and enjoyed growing flowers. She also had a great love of music, and enjoyed playing the organ and violin.
Veronica is survived by her children, LaDonna and Vernard Domeier of Sleepy Eye, Jerome and Patricia Weicherding of Sleepy Eye and Shirley Ann and Leonard Staupe of Morristown; 20 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Agnes Weicherding of Worthington, Elizabeth Haeney of Austin, Vi Steffl of Neligh, Neb., and Bess Schottenbauer of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Victor in 1991; sisters, Margaret Rusch, Agnes Soukup, and Frances Weicherding; and brothers, Sylvester, Matthew, Harold and Leo.
Casket bearers were Dean Domeier, Daniel Domeier, Scott Staupe, Lonnie Staupe, Tim Weicherding and Terry Weicherding.
Jeanette Forster
Jeanette L. Forster, 89, Selah, Wash., formerly of Comfrey, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Selah Convalescent Home, Outlook Wash., from diabetes complications. Funeral Services will be held April 6, 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Selah, with interment in Zillah Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a combined rosary by St. John's Catholic Aid Council and the Knights of Columbus Council #1076 at 6 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m., both Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm or to the donors choice.
David was born Feb. 9, 1949, in Sleepy Eye, to Erwin and Monica (Spaeth) Suess. He attended St. John's Catholic School in Searles and graduated in 1967 from Cathedral High School in New Ulm. On June 10, 1969, David married Sandra Meyer at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. After marriage, the couple farmed in the Searles and Hanska area. David played concertina with the Erwin Suess and the Hoolerie Dutchman, the Lester Schuft and the Country Dutchman of Hutchinson, and many other old time bands. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1076, St. John's Catholic Aid Council, and the German Bohemian Heritage Singers.
David is survived by his wife, Sandy Suess of rural New Ulm; parents, Erwin and Monica Suess of North Mankato; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Jeremy Pieper of Mankato; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Suess of St. Cloud, Scott Suess of New Ulm, Mark and Rachael Suess of New Ulm, and Tom Suess and his fiance, Jenna Schmitt both of New Ulm; granddaughters, Madison and Katelyn Suess; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Gary Gleisner of New Ulm, Sue and Bob McAdams of Mendota Heights and Lori and Troy Parsons of Madison Lake; brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Denise Suess of Clive, Iowa and Loran and Chris Suess of Hanska; 16 nieces and nephews; six great-nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Lorraine Meyer of New Ulm; and sister-in-law, Alice Fischer of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dora and Joe Suess; and Wolfgang and Bertha Spaeth; father-in-law, Fred A. Meyer; and brother-in-law, Ronald J. Fischer.
