Katie Marie Miller
Katie Marie Miller, daughter of Travis and Paula Miller, Morgan, was stillborn on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at New Ulm Medical Center. A Service of Remembrance was held Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Katie is survived by her parents, Travis and Paula (Merritt) Miller of Morgan; brothers, Cody and Wyatt Miller of Morgan; paternal grandmother, Corrine Miller of Balaton; maternal grandparents, Scott and Nancy Merritt of Long Prairie; paternal great-grandmother, Orla Swan of Balaton; maternal great-grandmother, Juanita Bruder of Kamiah, Idaho; and several aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Jerry Miller.
Florence (Bellig) Novak
Florence (Bellig) Novak, 83, Alexandria, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria, where she lived for the past two years. Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Villard.
Florence is survived by her children, Joyce and husband Gary Vickerman of Deer River, Joel Novak of Fort Drum, NY and daughter-in-law, Luverlle Novak of Villard; sister, Ursula Broich of Sleepy Eye; brother, Robert and wife Marge Bellig of Redwood Falls; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Veronica Bellig; husband, Frank; sons, James and Francis; and sister, Sylvia Hammerschmidt.
Patricia (Pat) Peterson
Patricia (Pat) Peterson, went home to her lord on Feb. 19, 2003, at the age of 72 years. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Reb. Richard Chronis officiating. Music was provided by organist Elaine Johnson, vocalist Marie Grundberg and harpist, Sally Ahlgren. Active pallbearers were Waldo Randall, Gene Scheiffert, Dean Luo, Chris Christense, Jon Jacobson and Dennis Lokken. Honorary pallbearers were Maxine Ahlstrom, Dixie Randall, Florence Lang, Dorothy Lang, Jerri Aune and MaryJean Holmquist. Interment was in Rice Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
Pat was born March 17, 1930, in St. Paul, to Albert and Olga Hohle. She was baptized at Como Park Lutheran Church in St. Paul. She attended rural school in Renville County, District 47 and high school in Bird Island. Pat was confirmed at Palmyra Lutheran Church in rural Hector on April 23, 1944. This was the church where her parents had both grown up and been confirmed. Pat completed a comptometry course in St. Paul and worked at Waldorf Paper Co. before beginning college. In 1952, Pat graduated from St. Olaf College and finished an MS degree from the University of Calif.; four adorable grandchildren, Anna and Eric Gerosolina and Inger and Ian Shelton; cousins, several close first cousins and many dear friends. Pat and Jack also have an extended family. They were very active with the AFS foreign exchange program. They hosted a student from Scotland and one from Norway. On Thanksgiving Day, they were on their way home from a 10-day trip after visiting their Scottish daughter, Meg Moreland and her family when Pat's cancer turned final. They also were involved in the foreign Teacher Exchange program. They hosted Yue Liu in 1988-89. They sponsored Yue Liu to come back for an advanced degree. Dr. Liu lives with her husband Li and son Dean Luo in Chicago and teaches at Harry Truman Jr. College.
Arrangements were handled by Rock Mankie Burial and Cremation Service of Braham.
Alice Radel
Alice Radel, 76, Evan, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Valley Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Ariz. Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Arrangements were handled by Sturm Funeral Home of Sleepy Eye.
Alice was born July 8, 1926, near Walnut Grove, the daughter of Lilly (Kroschel) and William Maas. She grew up in rural Redwood County and attended District #59 Country School for a few years. She moved with her family to Sleepy Eye, where she attended District #21 Country School, St. John's Parochial School and Sleepy Eye Public High School. After high school, Alice attended Normal School and then taught country school in Evan. She married Donald P. Radel on March 6, 1948, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple made their home in rural Sanborn for a few years before moving to a farm south of Evan. They made their home in Evan for many years, where Alice was postmaster for 23 years. Alice was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and was active in the ladies aid. She was also a member of N.A.P.U.S., the National Association of Postmasters. Alice enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Minnesota locations. In 1965, Leo purchased a business in Raymond, which became the Deterling Welding and Repair Company. About 1985, he began work for the Christianson Systems Co. of Blomkest, retiring in 1998. For about four years, Leo and Rosella lived in Baudette before returning to Raymond on Dec. 1. Leo was well known as a concertina player in his own band as well as in other bands in Minnesota, Lori has worked at Riverbend Day Treatment, where she loved being involved in the kid's lives. The last year she was a dispatcher with Sleepy Eye Bus Lines.
Lori is survived by her husband, Tim O'Neil of Sleepy Eye; children, Matthew, Mason and Molli, all of Sleepy Eye; parents, Royce and Claudia Sohre of Good Thunder; mother-in-law, Dorothy O'Neil of Waseca; grandparents, Claude and Sophie Ziegler of Rapidan, Harold Franz of Mankato and Elmer and Lela Sohre of Good Thunder; brother, Russell and wife Stephanie Sohre of Good Thunder; brothers-in-law, Jim and Jan O'Neil of Faribault, Jon and Vicki O'Neil of Waseca, Mike and Judy O'Neil of Waseca, and Dan O'Neil of Waseca; sisters-in-law, Patricia and Frank Demonte of Park Ridge, Ill., and Karen and James Nesius of Lake Park; 19 nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and nephews and many cousins, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her birth father, Marvin Franz; grandmother, Esther Franz; nephew, Shea O'Neil; and father-in-law, Dallas O'Neil.
Kimberly Ann Severson
Kimberly Ann Severson, 17, Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, as a result of an auto accident. Funeral services were Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Kim was born June 30, 1985, in Sleepy Eye, the daughter of Paul and Susan (Leonard) Severson. She lived in Sleepy Eye her entire life, attending St. Mary's Schools. Kim worked part-time at Subway and also Riverside Animal Clinic in Sleepy Eye. She loved animals and enjoyed her many pets. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Kim liked to spend time with her niece and nephews, as well as her friends, family and special friend, Ricky.
Kim is survived by her parents, Paul and Sue Severson of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Theresa and husband Scott Stimpert of Winthrop, and Amanda Severson and special friend Will Hornick of Sleepy Eye; brothers, Jason Severson of New Ulm and Mark Severson and special friend Rachel Mude of Sleepy Eye; niece, Samantha; and nephews, Jonathan, Christopher and Andrew Stimpert; grandmothers, Agnes Leonard of Nicollet and Marion Severson of Mankato; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Paul L. Severson and Kenneth Leonard.
Casket bearers were Nick Stolt, Tony McCabe, Justin Leonard, Greg Leonard, Kory Kettner, Josh Leonard, Matt Nordwall and Kevin Nordwall.
