Myron Arthur Trebesch, 70, Sleepy Eye, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 1, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye handled the arrangements.
Myron was born March 8, 1931, in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, to Arthur and Verna (Meinert) Trebesch. He attended country school, after which he farmed with his dad at home. On Aug. 24, 1954, he married Bernus Trost at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso. The couple continued to farm in Leavenworth Township, and in 1957, they purchased a farm in Brookville Township. Myron was proud to know that he worked on the farm with horses and four-wheel-drive tractors. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield, and was truly a family man and farmer who enjoyed wood carving, square dancing, waltzing, and some traveling. He like to relax as he listened to old time music, and visit with his friends about farming. Myron was a "John Deere" man his entire life, and took special enjoyment in being recognized as "grandpa" by all of the day care children at Muriel's home.
Myron is survived by his wife Bernus Trebesch of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Muriel and husband Dave Walter of Springfield and Kristine and husband Tim Buri of Byron; son, Ronnie and wife Suzanne Trebesch of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Melonie, Mandy, Marty and Matthew Hillesheim; Katie Anne Trebesch and fiance' Brian Roberts, Kelly Bernus Trebesch, and Mark and Noah Buri; great-grandchildren, Caleb Myron, Cora, Vishe' and Arynzi; mother, Verna Trebesch of Sleepy Eye; sister, Eunice Windschitl of Sleepy Eye; and brother, Patrick and wife Nancy Trebesch of Faribault. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Trebesch; brother-in-law, Linus Windschitl and mother and father-in-law, Albert and Wilhelmina Trost.
Casket bearers were John Trost, Clark Trebesch, James Windschitl, Randy Trost, Martin Hillesheim and Matthew Hillesheim.
Helen Marie Fromm, 54, Waukesha, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Oct. 9, at St. William Catholic Church, Waukesha, with interment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, Waukesha, handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Masses or memorials to the Cooperating Congregations of Waukesha County, or to St. William Catholic Church.
Helen was born March 1, 1947, in New Ulm, the daughter of Marvin and Helen Altmann. She is survived by husband, Thomas James; sons, Thomas and wife Jenny Fromm, and Timothy and wife Liz Fromm; daughter, Michelle and husband Jeff Plambeck; grandchild, Amber; sisters, Shirley and husband William Krohn, Bonnie and husband Wallace Bastian, Margaret and husband Tom Albrecht, Sharon Madsen, Lois and husband Robert Schneider, Norma and husband Del Bergseth; and Howard Altmann; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Joanne. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mothers.
Marie Guggisberg, 84, Fairfax, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 6, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Fairfax, with interment in the church cemetery in Cairo Township, Renville County. The Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Fairfax, handled the arrangements.
Marie (Gitter) Guggisberg was born Aug. 25, 1917, in West Newton Township, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Schwab) Gitter. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her faith, as a youth at St. George's Catholic Church. Marie was united in marriage with Clarence H. Guggisberg on June 18, 1940, at St. George's Catholic Church. The couple farmed in Cairo Township, Renville County. They shared 41 years of marriage before Clarence passed away on Oct. 16, 1981. Marie continued living on their farm site until she moved into Fairfax in 1993. She entered the Fairfax Community Home on Oct. 25, 1997. Marie was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax, where she was active with the Catholic Aid Association, and the Christian Mother's Society. She was also a member of the Fairfax VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Marie loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, flower gardening and homemaking.
Marie is survived by sons, Tom and wife Kay Guggisberg of Hill City, S.D., Steve and wife Evelyn Guggisberg of Starbuck, Jack and wife Sheri Guggisberg of Burnsville, Mark and wife Susan Guggisberg of Hartley, Colo., Rose and husband Gary Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye, Ruth and husband Dr. Karl Beesch of Marshall, and Mary and husband Rick Holub of New Brighton; daughter-in-law, Karen Guggisberg of Fairfax; 43 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Cecilia and husband John Taughtes of Gibbon; brother, Hilary Gitter of the Franklin Healthcare Center and his wife Marie of Sleepy Eye; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Agnes Gitter of St. George, Alex and wife Agnes Guggisberg of Gibbon, Bernice Pfeffer of Fairfax, Marion Wendland of New Ulm, and Sally and husband Lloyd Warner of Australia; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; a baby, in infancy; son, Joseph in June of 1980; three brothers, four sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Leonard H. Portner, 82, New Ulm, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Oct. 5, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm, with interment in the Catholic Cemetery, New Ulm.
Leonard was born Jan. 26, 1919, in New Ulm to George and Annie (Klinkhammer) Portner. He attended District 6 Country School in Sigel Township, Brown County. On Oct. 29, 1947, he married Alice Stueber at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm. After marriage, they farmed in Sigel Township, and retired in the mid-1990s, but continued to live on the farm. During the last three winters, Leonard lived at Sunset Apartments in New Ulm. He was well known for his restoring of antique tractors that he drove in many parades in the area. He loved to travel, listen to old time music and play his concertina. Leonard was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Church, the St. Joseph Catholic Aid Council, the St. John's Court 698 Catholic Order of Foresters, the German Bohemian Heritage Society, the Lost Dog and Fix Hunters Club, the Prairieland Flywheelers Two Cylinder Club, and was a member of various polka clubs around New Ulm.
Leonard is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Ron Kahle of New Ulm; son, Marlin Portner; son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Jane Portner, all of New Ulm; seven grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Alice Portner and George and Angie Portner, all of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice on Oct. 11, 1982; and daughter-in-law, Carol Portner on Dec. 1, 1988.

John Robert Zeug, 36, Redwood Falls, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Redwood Area Hospital, Redwood Falls. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 5, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Milroy. Rehkamp Funeral Home, Marshall, handled the arrangements.
John was born April 9, 1965, in Marshall, to Robert and Margie (DeMeyer) Zeug of Milroy. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Milroy. He attended Tracy Public Schools. John enjoyed tools and keeping them in order. He enjoyed being out on the farm and spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, taking walks and riding in the semi with his brothers. He also enjoyed going on outings with the residents at Lincoln House in Redwood Falls. John was employed on farms for several years until his health limited his ability. He resided at Unity House in Worthington, Gleasoners in Bird Island, Patricia Duffy Apartments in Marshall and Lincoln House in Redwood Falls until the time of his death.
John is survived by his parents, Robert and Marge Zeug of Milroy, sisters, Patty and husband John Rosenhammer of Sleepy Eye, Kate and husband Todd Palmer of Lino Lakes, Diane and husband Darren Storkamp of Savage, and Theresa of Brookings, S.D.; brothers, Kevin of Walnut Grove, Greg and wife DiVenna of Marshall, and Allan, Mike and Jim all of Walnut Grove; nieces and nephews, Joseph, Laura, MaryGrace, Rebecca and John Rosenhammer, Brenten and Trevor Zeug, and Christopher Palmer; grandmothers, Mary Audell Zeug of Sartell and Margaret DeMeyer of Minnesota Valley Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Alvin was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Sleepy Eye, to Otto and Clara (Haala) Helget. He attended country school in Stark Township, Brown County. On June 3, 1940, he married Leona Fischer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage, they farmed in Albin Township, Brown County, and he was still currently farming there until his death. After the death of his wife, Leona, Alvin moved to Countryside Retirement Community in Sleepy Eye. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Sleepy Eye Knights of Columbus Council #3134, the Sleepy Eye Eagles Club #3428, and had served on the Stark Baseball Board for many years.
Alvin is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Kathleen Helget and Darrel and Vivian Helget, all of St. James; Gerald and Dorothy Helget of Sleepy Eye, Marlin and Carol Helget of New Ulm, Duane and Ruth Helget of St. James, Dale Helget of Rochester, and Lorin and Denise Helget of Sleepy Eye; 41 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sylvester and Helen Helget of Sleepy Eye, Victor and Valeria Helget of New Ulm, and Delmar and Agnes Helget of Sleepy Eye; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ervin and Marian Fischer of Sleepy Eye; and a sister-in-law, Arnolda Fischer of Sleepy Eye. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Helget on Nov. 25, 1998; his parents, Otto and Clara Helget; grandchildren, Shannon Helget, Craig Helget and Janelle Helget; a brother and a sister, both in infancy; a brother and sister-in-law, Wendelin and Veronica "Fronie" Helget; a brother-in-law, Willard Fischer; and a sister-in-law, Caroline Helget.
Casket bearers were Alvin's grandsons, Brad Helget, Randy Helget, Jeremy Helget, Kyle Helget, Cole Helget and Larry Helget. The lector was his granddaughter, Nancy Remmert. Father Edward Ardolf celebrated the Mass.
Raymond Otto Roiger, 82, St. Michael, formerly of Springfield, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at the Monticello-Big Lake Nursing Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Oct. 26, 11:30 a.m., at The Church of St. Michael in St. Michael, with interment in St. Raphael Cemetery in Springfield on Friday, Oct. 26, at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will take place at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home Thursday, Oct. 25, 4-8 p.m. A combined Knights of Columbus and parish prayer service will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Raymond was born Nov. 18, 1918, the son of Joseph and Katherine "Kate" Sturm Roiger, in Bashaw Township, Brown County. On May 14, 1940, Raymond was joined in holy marriage to Loretta Hillesheim at St. Mary's Church, Sleepy Eye. The couple were blessed with six children. Raymond farmed for several years in Bashaw Township. He worked for ten years at Botsford Lumber Company in Currie. He also was employed for ten years at Taits Super Valu in Hopkins, and later, part-time at Vern's Grocery Store in St. Michael. Raymond was a member of The Church of St. Michael and belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #4174.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Loretta J. Roiger of St. Benedict's Senior Community in Monticello; children, James Roiger of Monticello, Ark.; Linus and wife Mary Roiger of Randolph; Janice and husband Dwight Beltrand of Rogers; Joleen Randall of Spokane, Wash.; Gary Roiger of Antioch, Ill.; and Wayne Roiger of Golden Valley; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Angeline and husband Wilbert Haala of New Ulm; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Otto, Arthur and LeRoy Roiger.

Marian Jean Sellner, 66, of Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at her home. Services are Thursday, March 9, 10:30 a.m., St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m., both at the funeral home on Wednesday.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Sellner of Sleepy Eye; children Scott and wife Susan Sellner of Jefferson City, California; Virginia Schroeder of California; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Klein of Sleepy Eye. Marian was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James and Bill.
Marian Jean was born on June 5, 1933, to Otto W. and Dolores (Wagner) Klein, in Sleepy Eye. She grew up and attended school in Sleepy Eye, where she graduated in 1951 from St. Mary's High School. Marian attended St. Theresa's College in Winona for one year. Following her dad's death, she returned to Sleepy Eye to help her mom raise her siblings. On Oct. 20, 1953, Marian was united in marriage to Roger Sellner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Sleepy Eye. Marian worked at the Divine Providence Community Home for many years and for five years until her retirement at the Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital as a secretary. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mother's Society, CCW, and the Divine Providence Auxiliary. Her hobbies included sewing, embroidering and gardening.
Casket bearers were James Klein, Scott Sellner, Phil Nauman, Michael Sellner, Carl Benson and Eric Benson.
Harriet Haugen, 80, of Hanska, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at the Madelia Community Hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Firle Funeral Home in Hanska, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond of Hanska; daughters, Sharon and husband Arleigh Richardson, Jr. of Cleveland, Minn., Charlene and husband Mike Ogle of Melrose, Valline and husband Jim Sellner of Sleepy Eye; son, Cameron Haugen of Hanska; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Gladys Hayes and Lorraine Schultz, both of St. Peter; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Harmon Haugen.
Harriet Sybil, the daughter of Hans and Sarah (Nundahl) Vegheim, was born Nov. 4, 1919, in Linden Township, Brown County. She grew up on the family farm and attended Hanska High School. Following her graduation from high school, she attended beauty school in Minneapolis. She was united in marriage to Raymond Haugen Sept. 16, 1939, at the Lake Hanska Lutheran Church parsonage. They made their home in Linden Township, where her husband farmed. She worked for Kraft Foods in New Ulm for nearly 25 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, and was a member and past president of the Hanska American Legion Auxiliary.
Lester P. Weber, 84, of Gibbon, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at his home. Mass of Christian burial was Wednesday, March 15 at St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon, with burial in the St. Willibrord Cemetery in Gibbon. Georgia, Leon and Juliette Weber of Winthrop, Marvin and Jane Weber of Lafayette, Ronald C. Weber of Winthrop, Richard Weber and Dennis Weber of New Ulm, Paul and Dawn Weber of Lafayette; 42 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; a brother, George Weber of Gibbon; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Joseph Weber in 1999.
Lester was born Oct. 18, 1915 in Gibbon to Sebastian and Mary (Hrdlicka) Weber. He attended country school. He started farming in 1938 on his own. Lester married Angeline Sellner on May 7, 1940 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage, they farmed in rural Gibbon until he retired in 1979. They moved in to Gibbon in 1983.
Lester was a member of St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon and the St. Willibrord's Catholic Aid Society. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends.
Elaine C. Ladd, 75, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at the Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital. Services were March 25 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Sturm Funeral Home of Sleepy Eye handled the arrangements.
She is survived by her son, Alan and wife Cathy Ladd of Stevens Point, Wis.; daughter, Colleen Ladd and husband Dr. Richard Kokkila of Willmar; four grandchildren, Daven and Sara Kokkila, Jocelyn Ladd and Jessica Huggins; sister, Carrie Schenk of Sleepy Eye; and brother, Victor and wife Dorothy Christensen of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Francile in 1969; husband, Raymond in 1987; and brother, Jens in 1987.
Elaine was born on Dec. 25, 1924, in Eden Township, Brown County, the daughter of Martin and Marie (Petersen) Christensen. She attended country school and graduated from Sleepy Eye Public High School. On Oct. 23, 1942, Elaine was united in marriage to Raymond Ladd in Redwood Falls. The couple made their home and farmed in Leavenworth Township. Elaine worked at 3M in New Ulm and also at Del Monte Corporation in Sleepy Eye for many years. Raymond preceded her in death in 1987. Elaine was very active in 4-H, Trinity Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, and several card clubs. She particularly enjoyed traveling with her husband and brother and sister-in-law. She loved the outdoors and had a special affinity for birds. She had only kindness directed to her many friends. Elaine's grandchildren were always a dominant part of her thoughts and she loved them deeply.
Edwin L. Braulick, 77, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at his home. Services are Thursday, March 30, 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Military rites will be performed by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
He is survived by his wife, Adeline of Sleepy Eye; children, Carol Olson of Plymouth., Gerald and wife Carol Braulick of Sleepy Eye, Dennis and wife Dianne Braulick of New Ulm, Shirley and husband Mike Haala of New Ulm, Loren and wife Laurie Braulick of Sleepy Eye, and Darlene Braulick of Sleepy Eye; 15 grandchildren; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Veronica Groebner of Sleepy Eye, Harold and Margaret Braulick of New Ulm, Roman and Phyllis Braulick of Sleepy Eye, Florence and Lyle Windschitl of Lafayette, Agnes and Robert Gleisner of New Ulm, Alfred and Lorraine Braulick of Sleepy Eye., and Delores and Dennis Franta of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother in infancy; brother-in-law, Valentine Groebner; and mother-and father-in-law, Raymond and Gertrude Ludewig.
Edwin Lawrence was born April 11, 1922, in Sigel Township, Brown County, the son of Anton and Amelia (Berg) Braulick. He entered the U.S. Army in October of 1942 and left for overseas duty in February of 1943, serving during World War 11 in the 32nd Division (Red Arrow) and was discharged in October of 1945. Eddie married Adeline Ludewig on June 25, 1946, at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. Eddie was born and died on the farm that was his current home.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye and the Isaacs-Radl VFW Post #800 of Sleepy Eye. Eddie was active in farming his entire life. He enjoyed fishing, old time music and winters in Pennsylvania, died March 28, 2000, at Nanticoke.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen (Hasinus); daughters, Diane, Sharon and Charlene; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Roman of The Dalles, Colo., Kathryn Schrupp and husband Leslie of Sleepy Eye and John (Chuck) Riegel and wife Catherine of New Ulm. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, Melvin was preceded in death by a brother, Francis, and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Hoelz.
Memorials are preferred to St. Catherine's Building Fund or Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
