Randy Smith
Randall S. Smith, 49 of Cloquet passed away suddenly on Monday, June 27, 2005 at his home that he cherished. He was born September 28, 1955 in Cloquet to Dennis O. and Ruby (Cranston) Smith. He attended Cloquet High School and graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1975. He worked at Potlatch for 24 years and has been with Sappi Paper for the past three years.
Randy married his high school sweetheart, Karen Jubie on August 11, 1979 in Moose Lake and they started their life of fun and adventure in Cloquet where they have lived for the past 25 years. Randy was full of life and energy and loved many activities including fishing, hunting, skiing, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, camping and campfires, feeding the wildlife in his yard, traveling and riding his Harley, He especially enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Smith and his grandparents.
Everyone was always welcome at his home and you were a stranger only once. He is gone too soon and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 25 years, Karen; his father, Dennis O. Smith; sisters, Linda (Jody) Jansen, Roxann (Dewey) Severson, Jay (Mike) Timonen, and Nell (Greg) Brooks. He was like a son to his in-laws, Peter and Eloyce Jubie. Randy is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Steven Jubie, Gary (Kim) Jubie, Peter Jubie, Paul (Jeanne) Jubie, Karmen (Paul) Mondell, Krista (Earl) Jensrud; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and many many good friends.
Visitation was last Thursday, June 30, 2005 and from Noon until the 1:00 p.m.the funeral service was Friday, July 1, 2005 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Burial was be in Maple Grove Cemetery. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home.
JOSEPHINE PETERSON
Josephine Irene Gresczyk was born February 27, 1926 in Spaulding Township, Aitken County, Arizona, Los Angeles, San Diego, Connecticut before settling in Escondido, Minnesota; children, Jerry Peterson of Bonita, Wisconsin and graduated from Soldiers Grove High School in 1939. She moved to Barnum with her parents where she married Gilbert Thieling. She had worked for Billmans Cafe as a waitress and cook; as a cashier at Barnum Coop; had been a psychiatric technician at the Moose Lake State Hospital and had been an activity director at Mercy Nursing Home.æ Eileen was a former 4-H leader and a Modern Woodmen Junior Activity Director.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert, on May 2, 2003.
Eileen is survived by her two sons, Gerald (LaVerne) of Barnum and Gene of Duluth; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2005 in Sunset Memorial Cemetery south of Barnum. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
STEVEN MILTON SVACINA
Steven Milton Svacina, 45, Dickinson, North Dakota. He worked on oil rigs in Montana, construction, and was currently working for the City of Dickinson doing tree removal. Steven loved hunting, fishing, snowshoeing, being outdoors, barbequing, camping, his dogs, and spending time with his friends and children.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents: Lester and Ardell Svacina and a sister: Susan Saari.
He is survived by three children: Lance of Sturgeon Lake; Molly (Alan) Alberg of Sturgeon Lake; and Mallory Svacina of Willow River; two brothers: Michael (Glenda) of Mahtowa and Rick (Jacky) of Cloquet; brother-in-law: Ted Saari of Burnsville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at 11 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. Cremation followed the service with private family inurnment being at a later date. Arrangements by Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake, MN.
RAYMOND KOSLOSKI
Raymond Kosloski died on October 30, 2005 at the age of 77. He was born and raised in the Denham area. He later moved to Washington Grove, MD; many nieces and nephews. Also, special friend, Ann Navara of St. Paul.
There was a memorial service at the Eagle's Club in St. Paul from 6-8 p.m. on November 3, 2005. A private interment will be held in Elkhardt, IN. Arrangements by Meuller Funeral Home, St. Paul.
FRANCES EVELYN Nelson
Frances Evelyn Nelson, 83, formerly of Mahtowa, died Wed., Nov. 9, 2005, in Two Harbors. She was born June 20,1922, in Milaca, MN, to Nels and Anna (Swanson) Peterson. She graduated from Milaca High School. Frances has been an area resident since 1946 and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cloquet and the Women's Missionary Federation.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Nelson; one brother, Abdon Peterson; and one sister, Edna Rosenberg.
She is survived by four sons: Loren (Candace) Nelson of Mahtowa; David (Jane) Nelson of Mahtowa; Daniel (Nancy) Nelson of Ortonville, and Lyndon (Jackie) Nelson of Gilbert; three daughters: Carol (Jim) Lumppio of Eden Prairie; Gayle (Mark) Nelson of New Brighton, and Roxanne (John) Farley of Two Harbors; one brother, Carl Peterson of Spring Valley, MN.; 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at 9 a.m. Sat., Nov. 12, 2005, until the 10 a.m. funeral service in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cloquet. Interment services were at Mount Salem Cemetery in Mahtowa. The family selected Nelson Funeral Care to assist them with arrangements.
EFFIE PELTO
Effie Pelto, 85, of McGregor died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at Riverwood Health Care Center, Aitkin. She was born Nov. 27, 1919, in Esko to John and Mary (Fredrickson) Kangas. On Oct. 7,1950, in Cloquet, Effie was united in marriage to Alfred H. Pelto. They moved to Minneapolis where they lived for many years. In 1984 they returned and made their home in Rice River Township. She was a founding member of the Carlton VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Rice River Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred on May 13, 1997; nine brothers and sisters; and her parents, John and Mary (Fredrickson) Kangas.
She is survived by two daughters: Karon Smith of Bloomington, Barbara Hutchins and her special friend, Robert Bourdeau of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; granddaughter, Deborah (Scott) Sieling of Bloomington; twin great-granddaughters, Elliana and Cassandra Sieling of Bloomington; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, in the United Methodist Church in McGregor Rev. David Brown officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service. Burial was at Rice River Cemetery. Arrangements were by McGregor Funeral Home.
JEANET C. HOWARD
Jeanet C. Howard, 75, of Duluth, died Nov. 11, 2005 at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born in Cloquet on Jan. 1, 1930 to Avald and Clara Benson Youngren. She was a graduate of Barnum High School. Jeanet married Russell Howard on July 24, 1951. She had worked at the Duluth City and County Employees Credit Union, retiring as a loan officer in 1989. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the All-American Club.
Jeanet was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Russell, in 1999.
She is survived by sons: Jim (Carmen), Plymouth, MN; Neal (LeAnne), Barnum, MN; Brian (Sherry), Saginaw, MN; brother, Ronny (Kathy), Barnum, MN; sister, Lois (Gene) Lysher, Rapid City, SD; and 7 grandchildren.
Visitation was held at 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church. Burial was at Sunrise Cemetery. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home.
VALERIE ROSE PATTERSON
(Jan. 19, 1931-Nov. 9, 2005)
Valerie Rose "Ge Ge" Patterson, age 74, of Clovis, New Mexico, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at Laurel Ridge Nursing Home in Clovis from breast cancer. She was born January 19, 1931 to Paul and Julia Swantek Kolosky in Sturgeon Lake, MN. She married Donald Patterson September 13, 1952 in Sturgeon Lake, MN. They lived in many places as a military family including, Minnesota, Germany, California, and in Clovis for the past 20 years. She was a Medical Office Clerk at Cannon Air Force Base where she retired. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting and was a wonderful cook. She was a people person, always smiling and making new acquaintances. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and she and her husband volunteered working the bingo in the snack bar at Sacred Heart for several years.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Patterson, of Clovis, NM; daughter, Debbie Houston of Clovis, NM; two sons: Rocky and wife, Mary Patterson, of Tacoma, WA, Michael and wife, Sarah Patterson, of Sacramento, CA; six grandchildren: Leigh Ann Horner, Chase Houston, both of Clovis; Shelena and Rocky Patterson, Jr,. both of Tacoma, WA; Hailey and Ashley Tiran-Patterson. both of Sacramento, CA; six great-grandchildren: Lauren and Jori Horner both of Clovis; Chase, Michael, and Josh Houston, all of Clovis; Anthony Michael Patterson of Tacoma, WA; and of course, her two dogs, Jack and Sam.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Marjorie Rekola and two brothers: William and Chester Kolosky.
Memorial Service was held at The Chapel, 1500 Thornton, on Monday, November 14, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. with Deacon Daniel Chavez officiating. Cremation has taken place.
