TIMOTHY BELLAND, SR.
Timothy Belland, Sr., 50, of Finlayson, formerly of White Bear Lake, died on Nov. 15, 2005, while doing what he loved, hunting.
Timothy is preceded in death by his mother, Vera.
Survived by his children: Tammy and Tim Jr.; former wife and friend, Susi and special dog, Ruby.
Memorial Service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Willow River. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
LILY KUHLMAN
Lily Kuhlman, 105, formerly of Tamarack, Kettle River, and Moose Lake, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, November 15, 2005 in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. She was born October 31, 1900, in Lake Benton to Hans and Kjerstine (Jepsen) Rasmussen. Lily was united in marriage to Edward Kuhlman on August 16, 1922 in Lake Benton. Together they owned and operated a farm in Kettle River. Lily was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Barnum where she was a member of the Ladies Aid. In her earlier years she also taught Sunday school.
Lily is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents; 4 brothers; twins, Nels and Rasmus, Carl and Chris; 4 sisters, Annie, Elsie, Lavona and Martha; 1 granddaughter, Janice Kuhlman; 1 great great grandson, Nathan Latall.
Lily is survived by 4 sons, Clarence (Dorothy) Kuhlman of Downers Grove, IL, Virgil (Margaret) Kuhlman of Moose Lake, Milon (Caroline) Kuhlman of Minong, WI, and E. Dean Kuhlman of Garden Grove, CA; 5 daughters, Dorothy (Richard) Landsverk of Fountain Valley, CA, Lavona (Donald) Meiners of Caledonia, Geneva Peloquin of North St. Paul, Myrtle Gipe of Cerritos, CA and Ethel (Allen) Blenninger of Browerville; 1 sister, Alice Tenneson, age 100 of Vallejo, CA; 28 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Spending time with her family and friends was one of Lily's greatest pleasures. She had a strong faith in God and will be remembered for her lovely disposition, a keen sense of humor and kind, loving words for everyone.
Her family would like to express their deep appreciation to Horizons Assisted Living in Barnum for the love and care she received while she resided with them since December of 1993. She strongly believed she was with ÒfamilyÓ. She was often referred to as ÒGrandmaÓ.
The family would also like to express their deep appreciation to the Hospice Center at St. Mary's Medical Center. Their love and concern given was very comforting to Lily and to her family.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 17, from 5-7 PM in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and Friday, November 18, from 1 until the 2 PM service in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Barnum. Memorials Preferred in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.
DONALD J. CAREY
Donald J. Carey, 93, of Sturgeon Lake, died Thursday, November 24, 2005, in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. Donald was born March 28, 1912, in Quebec, Canada to Leo and Madleen (Cyr) Carey.
Donald was united in marriage to Marlis Kenyon on February 5, 1937, in Duluth. He was employed as a machinist with National Iron of Duluth until his retirement in 1976. Donald was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church of Moose Lake.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents; 6 sisters, Grace, Blanche, Rita, Stella, Marie and Alda; 3 brothers, Clem, Norman and Walter.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Marlis of Moose Lake; 2 daughters, Joyce (Charles) Brettell of CA and Donna (Dale) Sandberg of Sturgeon Lake; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, November 30, from 10 until the 11 AM Memorial Mass in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. Private Inurnment will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.
EDMUND B. "EDDIE" GRANDA
Edmund B. "Eddie" Granda, 74, of Barnum, died Saturday, November 26, 2005 at his home.
He was born October 5, 1931 in Windemere Township to Joseph and Selma (Jurek) Granda. Eddie was united in marriage to Mary Shusta on October 2, 1954 in Split Rock Township. He and Mary just celebrated their 51st Anniversary. Eddie was an Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with National Iron of Duluth for 19 years and as a postal carrier in Barnum. Eddie was a professional musician, playing for 60 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and sports and was named Barnum High School's "Fan of the Year". Eddie was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake, The Nicholson-Sellgren V.F.W. Post #2962 of Carlton and the Barnum Commercial Club for many years. Eddie especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Eddie is preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Jerome; 1 brother, Ernie.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Mary Granda of Barnum; 4 sons, Bob (Sharon) Granda of Minneapolis, Jim Granda of Minneapolis, Edward (Lisa) Granda of Barnum and Steve Granda of Barnum; 1 daughter, Nancy Granda of Barnum; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, John of Crystal, Rufus (Francis) of Carlton and Joseph of Sturgeon Lake; 4 sisters, Dorothy (Edward) Urbaniak of St. Paul, Evelyn Cieslak of St. Paul, Geraldine "Deanny" (James) Cunningham of Stillwater and Kathryn (Jerry) Sylvester of Willow River; mother-in-law, Helen Shusta of Moose Lake; 1 sister-in-law, Sophie Granda of Sturgeon Lake; many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation was Wednesday, November 30, from 5-7 PM with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 6:30 PM in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake and Thursday, December 1, from 10 until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. HENRY OTTO HANSEN
Henry Otto Hansen, 82, of Sturgeon Lake, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005 with his family by his side in the VA Medical Center, Minneapolis. He was born May 15, 1923 in Minneapolis to Otto and Dagnea (Moe) Hansen. HenryÍs parents were immigrants from Oslo, Norway and met in the U.S. They lived in Minneapolis for a short time before moving to the Denham/Arthyde area where they farmed. Henry was United in Marriage to Grace Gannon in 1946. Henry is an Army Veteran of WWII where he was in the front lines with the 36th Texan Division Company B, 142 landing in Normandy. His unit liberated Landsberg Concentration Camp where Henry and another buddy posting guard duty apprehended Goring. Henry received the Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, the European-Africa Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal, a Bronze Star, the Presidential Unit Emblem with Oak Leaf Cluster, the WWII Victory Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, The Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar and the Honorable Service Lapel Button of WWII. He was a member of the Nicholson-Sellgren V.F.W. Post #2962 of Carlton. Henry was employed for 32 years with Con Wed of Cloquet before retiring in 1978.
Henry enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, woodworking, and taking fishing trips to Montana, Oregon, WI. He retired at age 70 as vice president of WISCO Industries of Oregon, WI, and Solomon's Masonic Lodge 286 of Moose Lake, the YOT Club, and Cromwell Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, dancing, playing cards and especially his life with Viola on Eagle Lake.
Dauno was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret, one step-son, Ron Koivisto and his step-great grand-daughter, Skye Rinta.
Dauno was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Viola of Cromwell; daughter, Phyllis (Brian) Carter; granddaughter, Brenda (Jim) Stevens; and grandson, Christopher, all of Oregon, Wisc.
The family would like to thank Dr. Knuths, Dr. Kamper, St. Mary's Hospice and the staff at Bayshore Health Center for the loving and compassionate care they have given to Dauno and the entire family.
Visitation was Sunday, November 27, 2005 in Northland Funeral Home.. Funeral services were Monday, November 28, 2005 in Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. Burial will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.
CURTISS HADDON GEORGE BORGLUND, SR.
Curtiss Haddon George Borglund, Sr., 78, of Wright died unexpectedly on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at his home. He was born April 11, 1927, in Wright, MN, to Walter and Gertrude (Bergstrom) Borglund.
Curtiss was raised on the family farm on Tamarack Lake and graduated from Cromwell High School in 1945. He then served in the Army Air Force during World War II. After the service, Curtiss worked for the Postal Service in St. Paul for three years and then for Wood Conversion in Cloquet until 1954. In 1954, he started his career with the Conoco Refinery in Wrenshall. He served on two refinery start up teams in England and one in Spain. Curtiss retired from Conoco in Ponca City, OK, in 1989 as Maintenance Superintendent. Curtiss was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright; AAD Shrine Temple in Duluth; Scottish Rite; the Viking Shrine Club in Cloquet where he was a past president; the Dalles Masonic Lodge 181 A.F.& A.M. of Cloquet; the Hebert Kennedy VFW Post 3979 of Cloquet; and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting antiques, and working and traveling overseas.
Curtiss was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Daniel; one daughter, Joana; three brothers: Lloyd, Douglas and Howard; and one sister, Helen VondeLinde.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Josiane Borglund of Mora; two sons: Curtis Borglund of Moose Lake, and Tom (Mary Jo) Borglund of Cromwell; two daughters: Diana (Craig) Simonson of Hermantown, and Karen (Ronald) Carlson of Conover, WI; two brothers: Robert (Helen) Borglund of Cumberland, WI, and Ronald Borglund of Wright; two sisters: Phyllis (Duane) Huseby of Texas and Mary Joyce (Dave) Monson of North Oaks, MN; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2005 in Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7 p.m. The visitation resumed on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright, conducted by Rev. Matt Saarem. Interment services followed at the Wright Community Cemetery with military honors presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. The family selected Nelson Funeral Care to assist them with arrangements.
