RONALD JACK SALO
Ronald Jack Salo was born September 7, 1934 in Kettle River, MN, to Jacob and Gertrude (Maatta) Salo. He grew up on a farm in Kalevala Township north of Kettle River. Ron attended Kalevala Elementary School and graduated from Barnum High School with the class of 1953.
While in high school, Ron was crowned homecoming king and was captain of the football team, he also participated in basketball.
Ron served his country in the United States Army from 1956-1958. Ron was stationed in Germany, working as a radio engineer. Following his discharge from the army, Ron worked at the Kettle River Creamery.
Ron was married to Margaret Brink on August 6, 1960, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Moose Lake. The couple made their home in Mora, while Ron attended the University of Washington; brother: Duane (Cori) of Chula Vista, California and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Arrangements are pending for later this week with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Please call the funeral home at 218-485-4429 for service times and location. A full obituary will be in next weeks paper.

LILLIAN "Lill" PETERSON
Lillian "Lill" Peterson, 89, of Denham, died Monday, December 5, 2005 in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake. She was born April 19, 1916, in Duluth to Edward and Anna (Haglund) Molis. Lill was a 1934 graduate of Willow River High School. Lill was united in marriage to Arnold Peterson on March 4, 1942, in Moose Lake. She and Arnold owned and operated Standard Oil in Denham. She was also employed with the State Hospital in Moose Lake. Lill enjoyed cooking, quilting, crocheting, polka music, listening to hymns, gardening and morning and afternoon coffee with family and friends. She was the best mom and grandma.
Lill is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; her parents; 1 sister, Dorothy Swarmer; 1 brother, Ralph Molis.
Lill is survived by 2 daughters, Sissy (Tom) Brabec of Willow River and Veryl (Ron) Zellmer of St. Paul; 1 son, Vernon Peterson of Jackson Hole, WY; 1 brother, Carl (Vicki) Molis of Salt Lake City, UT; 1 sister, Mae Fransen of Moose Lake; 1 sister-in-law, Hazel Molis of Sturgeon Lake; 4 grandchildren, Jason and Allison Brabec and Amanda and Angela Zellmer; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation wasThursday, December 8, from10 until the 11 AM service in Faith Lutheran Church, Birch Creek Township with Reverend Paul Reiff officiating. Interment will be in Nordland Cemetery, Birch Creek Township. Arrangements are with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.

BEATRICE ALICE TRACY
Beatrice Alice Tracy, 93, of Moose Lake, died Monday, December 5, 2005, in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born April 15, 1912, in Winnebago to Walter and Lillie (Waldren) Scott. Beatrice was united in marriage to Leo R. Tracy on May 22, 1935 in Clear Lake, Minnesota. Beatrice retired from teaching in 1977. Beatrice was a member of United Methodist Church of Moose Lake. She enjoyed traveling extensively, teaching and was very active in the church.
Beatrice is preceded in death by her husband Leo; her parents; 1 son, Arden; 2 brothers, Harry and Roy; 1 sister, Doris.
Beatrice is survived by 2 daughters, Bernadine (Neal) Swanson of Brooklyn Park and Bette (Gary) Skelton of Moose Lake; grandchildren, Joel (Mary) Bowles, Lisa Bowles, Doug (Rhonda) Skelton, Kristi Skelton-Weisert, Keith (Yvonne) Skelton and Lee Ann Tracy; great grandchildren, Shannon Sober, Keshia, Kaleb, Cameron and Kjersten Weisert, Emma and Laura Skelton, Levi and Lilli Skelton, Ian and Dane Bowles; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Friday, December 9, in United Methodist Church of Moose Lake with Pastor Pamela Barbour officiating. Interment was at 1:30 PM in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Moose Lake. Arrangements are with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.

DWIGHT EDWARD MANDY
Dwight Edward Mandy, 63, Sturgeon Lake, died Monday, December 12, 2005 at his home.
He was born on July 4, 1942 to Mathias and Edna (Hamilton) Mandy in Portland, Oregon with a degree in Behavioral Science while pursuing his main interest in the restaurant business. Dwight later worked as a firefighter for a short period of time in the early 1970's. He met his wife in 1981 and on August 6, 1983, Dwight married Kathleen Klinkhammer in Northfield, MN. While operating several bakery/restaurant businesses, they lived in the southern Washington; brother: Duane (Cori) of Chula Vista, California; two grandchildren: Joseph Mandy and Keith Mandy of Washington and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Mass was held on Friday, December 16, 2005 at 1 PM in St. Isidore's Catholic Church, Sturgeon Lake. Father Timothy Deutsch was the celebrant. Music was provided by Kevin Williams, Emily Williams, and Therese vanOss. Inurnment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis on December 27, 2005.
Arrangements are with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.

LYDIA ELIZABETH MAKI
Lydia Elizabeth Maki, 93, of Duluth received her angel wings Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, in the Viewcrest Health Center. Lydia was born in Finlayson, MN, to Howard and Mary (Kangas) Carlson. She graduated from the Finlayson High School, Duluth Teachers College, and in 1966, Lydia received her Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from UMD. She taught third and fourth grade for over 20 years at Kalevala School in Kettle River and also farmed with her husband. She moved to Duluth in 1966 and was a school librarian in the Duluth Schools, including Park Point, Nettleton, Ensign, Emerson and Grant. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kapa Society, First Lutheran Church and it's Phoebe Circle and was a hospitality hostess at Edgewater Hotel. She also helped with Meals on Wheels and Friend to Friend. Lydia loved to travel in America, Canada, England and Israel. She enjoyed babysitting during her retirement years.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Theodore "Ted" in 1964; a son, Donald; brothers: Howard, Carl, Eddie, and Albert Carlson; sisters: Sylvia Towns, Edna Youso, and Eleanora Larson.
Surviving is a daughter, Clarice "Claire" (Thomas) Bock of Duluth; one son, James "Jim" Maki of Kettle River, MN; six grandchildren: Christine Morris, James Maki, John Maki, Joann Maki, Deborah (Phillip) Mannon, and Theodore "Ted" (Aimee) Bock; eleven great-grandchildren, with another one due in May of 2006; and a great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.
The family extends a special thank to the Viewcrest staff, especially Suzie and Natalie.
Visitation will be held from 1 until the 2 p.m. service on Thurs., Dec. 22, 2005, in Bell Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Church Cemetery in Kettle River.

ARTHUR B. JOHNSON
Arthur B. Johnson, beloved husband of MaryAnn for 56 years.
Devoted father to Candace, Mark (Dianne), David (Clare), Cindy Bernards (Jefferson) and Cheri Anenson (Ken);
Grandpa to 19 grandchildren: Daniel, Kathryn, Anne, Rebekah, Kristina, Karyn, Beth, Matthew, David, Abigail, Peter, Hannah, Joshua, Adam, Rachel, Sarah, Eric, Kyle and James; and 2 great-grandchildren;
Brother to Pearl Peterson, Doris Fredrickson and Dennis (Louise) Johnson and former father-in-law to Robert Gjertson.
Born 1927 in Sturgeon Lake, MN, to Arthur and Catherine Johnson. 1944 graduate of Willow River High School. Attended the U of MN. He worked in the construction industry for 50 years, eventually owning his own company, ABJ Enterprises, in the Excelsior/Eden Prairie area, retiring in 2000.
He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and the Word of God. The blessings he received he poured out to others and a multitude of Christian ministries. Active member and Elder of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Deephaven.
