MARYANN PATRICIA JOHNSON
MaryAnn Patricia Johnson, (nee Adams), beloved wife of Arthur for 56 years.
Loving mother of Candace, Mark (Dianne), David (Clare), Cindy Bernards (Jefferson) and Cheri Anenson (Ken);
Grandma to 19 grandchildren: Daniel, Kathryn, Anne, Rebekah, Kristina, Karyn, Beth, Matthew, David, Abigail, Peter, Hannah, Joshua, Adam, Rachel, Sarah, Eric, Kyle and James; and 2 great-grandchildren;
Sister to Thomas (Irene) Adams;
Aunt to many nieces and nephews; and former mother-in-law to Robert Gjertson.
Preceded by sisters Hazel Hutchins and Ruth Olson; and brother Dennis Adams.
Born in 1928 to Thomas and Anna Adams in McGrath, MN. 1946 Graduate of Willow River High School. Attended Secretarial College worked in Minneapolis until she married Art in 1949 at Faith Lutheran Church, Sturgeon Lake, MN. A full time mother who supported Art and her children in all they did.
She was the glue that held the family together. Her faith was evident in the love she poured out to everyone and the prayers that she and Art shared everyday.
MARK A. JOHNSON
Born in 1955 to Arthur and MaryAnn Johnson in St. Cloud, MN.
Loving husband to Dianne for 28 years;
Incredible dad to Kristina Bowe (Michael), Karyn, Beth and Mathew Arthur; and Grandfather to Grace.
He loved Jesus and his family above everything else. 1973 Graduate of Chaska High School. Graduated from Hamline University with a B.S. Degree in Biology in 1977. Received JD Degree from William Mitchell in 1999. He worked construction, eventually joining his father Art with ABJ Enterprises. After his father retired, he continued in property development. He was instrumental in starting Southwest Christian High School and served on the school board. He also loved the ministry of Northern Pines Family Camp and had supported it's work for over 20 years, currently as Board President. He thrived as a Stephen minister with Excelsior Covenant Church and loved to serve in any capacity where he was needed. A true servant-leader, If there was a need he made time to meet that need. His future passion was Angel Flight Ministries.
They perished together in a light plane accident and returned to the Lord on December 11, 2005. Their lives were be celebrated together with visitation on Fri., December 16, 2005 from 4-8 PM, at Grace Church, 9301 Eden Prairie Rd., and 1 hour prior to the Service Sat., December 17, 2005 at 10:00 AM, Grace Church. Private Interment, Hillside Cemetery.
For Art and MaryAnn, memorials preferred to Voice of the Martyrs, Dawson McCallister Live, Southwest Christian High School or World Mission Prayer League.
For Mark, memorials preferred to Northern Pines of MN, Southwest Christian High School, Excelsior Covenant Church Building Fund or Miracles of Mitch.
GEORGE WALTER JOHNSON
George Walter Johnson, 89, Cloquet, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005 in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth. He was born Sept. 20, 1916 in Thomson Township, the son of Matt and Amelia (Kinnunen) Johnson. George married Adelia Swanson Spangenberg on January 1, 1970 in Duluth. He retired from Potlatch in 1978 after more than 25 years of employment and was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club. George loved to hunt and fish, was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching baseball and football. As a young man, he was a professional baseball pitcher for the St. Cloud team.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Alma Niemi; and five brothers: Henry, Art, Bill, Johnny and Fred Johnson.
George is survived by his wife, Adella, of Cloquet; his daughter, Suzanne (Bill) McGown in California; one step-granddaughter, Teresa Burkhart of Monticello; two step-great-grandchildren, Zachary and Alex; one brother, Charlie Johnson of Cloquet; three sisters: Anna Juola of Hermantown, Ida Welton and Esther Pastika, both of Cloquet; a step-sister, Joyce (Uuno) Suominen of Cloquet; two sisters-in-law: Marcie Berg and Luella (Armand) Miller, both of Cannon Falls, MN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until the service in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
WILLARD ALM
Willard Starr Alm was born on September 11, 1915 in Kasota, Minnesota.
Willard served in the United States Navy from May 1941 to January 1946 as a Naval Officer and Naval Aviator. He served in the Pacific with Air Group 27 and was aboard the U.S.S. Independence on V.J. Day. He taught in the Minneapolis school system for several years and was a long-time employee with the Minnesota Department of Corrections as a Supervisor and Assistant Superintendent. He retired in 1980.
Willard was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Moose Lake, St. Luke's Catholic Church in Sandstone, the American Legion, W.F.L.A (Willow River Lodge) and the U.S. Naval Reserve (Retired).
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Alm.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Sandstone; his daughter, Mary (Barry) Alm-Lehrman of Los Angeles, CA; his son, Gregory (Irina) Alm of St. Petersburg, FL and a granddaughter, Katerina.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Willard S. Alm was held on Monday, December 26, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Sandstone with Fr. Al Henger officiating. Pianist was Nancy Bennett. Casket bearers were the members of the American Legion Post #151 Honor Guard. Full military honors were accorded by the American Legion Post #151 Honor Guard. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minneapolis, MN. Arrangements by Methven Funeral Home, Sandstone, MN.
GRACE RUNSTROM
Grace Kathryn Runstrom, 91, of Barnum peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 18, 2005. Grace was born July 19, 1914 in Cleveland, California. She worked for several years as a stenographer for an insurance company. On December 19, 1959 Grace married Norman Runstrom. Grace lived most of her life in Texas Terrace Care Center, St. Louis Park, where she had been a resident since Oct 2005. She was born March 2,1940, in Cloquet the daughter of Dennis and May (Meisner) Boss. Judith was a 1958 graduate of Cloquet High School and had attended Duluth Vocational School. In 1987, Judith moved to Janesville, WI, where she lived for 10 years. She then moved to Gibsonton, FL, where she lived until March 2005 when she returned to Cloquet after being critically injured in a car accident in Florida. She enjoyed traveling, especially to see her family and friends, country music, knitting and being a grandma to her grandchildren. Judith will be fondly remembered as having a great sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; and a brother, Johnny Boss.
Judith is survived by a son, Keith (Bonnie) Amson of Janesville, WI; four daughters: Mary Nylund of Cheyenne, WY; Lynn (Don) Hurst of Gibsonton, FL; Patti (Lloyd) Waseen of Carlton and Carol Peterson (Tom Johnson) of Cromwell; 9 grandchildren: Danny and Kelly Nylund: Amanda Hurst Nicole and Jacob Waseen, Travis and Lisa Peterson and Jory and Holly Johnson; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Verna) Boss of Dodge City, MN; a sister, Aida (John) Varda of Chisholm and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 12 noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street Cloquet. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Cloquet, followed by a luncheon in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
