IVAN STEPAN
Mass of Christian Burial for Ivan Stepan, 86, Willow River, was held on Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Willow River. The Rev. Tim Deutsch was the celebrant. Music was provided by Mary Beth Telker and Reggie Garvey. Casket Bearers were Bruce Williams, Martin Stepan, Shelly Stepan, Jason Telker, Miranda Beutel, and Dawn Worlicky. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Willow River.
Ivan Stepan was born on February 19, 1920, to Joseph and Gladys (Weekly) Stepan in Willow River, where he grew up and attended school. He worked construction and also worked for farmers in Montana. Ivan was an Army veteran of World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific. On November 10, 1945, Ivan married Sally Malikowski in Willow River. Ivan worked as a mechanic at Hudson Motors until 1949 when he purchased the farm in Birch Creek Township. Ivan worked at Diamond Match, General Andrews Nursery, as a mail carrier, and also logged. He loved fur trapping, fishing, hunting, wood carving, and gardening. Ivan often used his mechanic skills and was known by many as the "fix it" man. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Ivan entered eternal rest on Thursday, April 20, 2006, in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Gladys; son, Martin; two sisters, Lucille Guss and Viola Underhill; and two brothers, Harry Stepan and Rosswell "Huck" Stepan.
Ivan will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sally; two sons, Stephan (Donna) of Denham, and Michael (Shelley) of Hugo; four daughters, Kate (Gary) Danelski of Willow River, Jessica (Jerry) Williams of Hinkley, Mary (Dave) Williams of Hinkley, and Jane (Jerry) Telker of Sturgeon Lake; two brothers, Richard (Mary) Stepan of Willow River, and Robert (Nancy) Stepan of Minneapolis; two sisters, Blanche (Walt) Tomczak of Price of Cloquet; brothers, Frank (Annette) Skog of Stacy, Dan (Kathy) Skog of Pine City, Gary Skog of Olean, NY., Brett (Michelle) Skog of Sturgeon Lake.
Elizabeth "Betty" Hankes
Elizabeth "Betty" Hankes, 82, Moose Lake, entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 26, 2006 in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born on October 24, 1923 to Charles and Mary Louise (O'Toole) Maurer in Battle Creek, Wisconsin; James (Diane) Hankes of White Bear Lake; and Thomas (Joni) Hankes of Minneapolis; three daughters: Mary (Paul) Russo of Baton Rouge, Missouri to James and Belle (Quigley) Ross.
Jo was united in marriage to Willfred N. LaBounty on March 13, 1937 in Waterloo, Missouri; one sister Nellie Jackson of Missouri; several nieces, nephews and friends.
