GERALD R. SYLVESTER
Gerald (Jerry) R. Sylvester, 69, Willow River, died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at El Dorado Hospital in Tucson, AZ with his wife and family by his side. He was born December 5, 1936 in Duluth to Raymond and Olga "Billie" (Leppioja) Sylvester. Gerald was United In Marriage to Kathryn "Kala" A. Granda on October 7, 1961 at St Isidores Catholic Church of Sturgeon Lake. Gerald joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and then joined the Navy in 1958. Gerald retired as a Chief Petty Officer for the United States Navy having served for 21 1/2 years. During the years in the military Gerald and Kathryn lived in Hawaii, Texas, Tennessee.
Gerald moved his family to Willow River where he started his second career working for the State of Minnesota after 17 years of service. When Gerald retired from the State he began enjoying the winters in Tucson, Arizona, Montana, Colorado and Washington. Lorraine was very active in programs for the handicapped and loved spending time with her family and friends.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband, John and her parents.
Lorraine is survived by 2 daughters, Barb (Christopher) Reed of Nickerson and Patricia Howder of Cloquet; 4 grandchildren, Solange (Mike) Hommel, Shanta (Richard) Balut, Brooks Bonkoski and Tyson Bonkoski; 2 grandchildren by marriage, Thomas and Lilias Reed; 3 Great Grandchildren, Alexa, Devon and Richie; 1 brother-in-law, Col. James Douglas Howder of San Antonio, North Carolina; and also Pat Beaupre of Sandstone, Rosie Wasieleski of Lino Lakes and Viv Stark of Circle Pines; 23 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Vernon Martin of West St. Paul; 3 sisters: Grace Kehoe of St. Paul, Eleanor Barton of Forest Lake and Ruth Beaupre of Colorado Springs.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 11 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. Father Eamonn Boland was the celebrant. Regi Garvey and Holy Angels Choir provided the music. Casket Bearers were Michael Hexum, Jared Beaupre, Jeffery Beaupre, William Beaupre, Phillip Beaupre, Adam Jenson, Thomas Wholters, and James Wholters. Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Willow River. Arrangements are with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.
ELDON B. KITTEL
Eldon B. Kittel, 85, of Holyoke, died Sunday, April 9, 2006, in Sunnyside Health Care Center, Cloquet.
He was born January 26, 1921 in St. Paul to Bernhard "Ben" and Martha (Thieling) Kittel. Eldon grew up and attended school in Clear Creek Township. Eldon was united in marriage to Borghild "Borgie" Collander on June 3, 1961 in Proctor. Eldon farmed with his parents, later taking over the farm. Eldon was employed with Great Northern Railroad as a seasonal worker. He was also a State Fire Warden from 1942-2006. Eldon received a Soil Conservation Award in 1965 as well as a Sportsman Achievement Award. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding 4-wheeler and especially spending time with his family and friends.
Eldon is preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Edwin; 2 sisters, Audrey Roach and Florence Nelson.
Eldon is survived by his loving wife Borgie Kittel of Holyoke; 2 sons, Robert Kittel of Holyoke and Thomas (Colleen) Kittel of Holyoke; 3 grandchildren, Rachel, Jared and Delaney; 1 brother, Clayton (Diane) Kittel of Cloquet; 1 sister-in-law, Elna Kittel of Cloquet; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, April 13, 2006, from 10 until the 11 AM Memorial Service in Oak Lake Lutheran Church, Kerrick Township with Pastor Nathan Anderson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Nickerson Community Cemetery. Arrangements are with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.
ARLENE V. GAY
Arlene V. Gay, 91, of Moose Lake, Minnesota where they spent the last 20 years enjoying their home on Sturgeon Lake. Kay was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church of Moose Lake. She enjoyed everything in life. Shopping with her friends, taking walks, fishing, playing games, writing letters and watching the sunsets were her favorite pastimes, but most of all she found happiness in her family. One of her greatest pleasures were when her children came home to visit with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, Henry C. Brand.
Kay is survived by her loving husband, Bill of 58 years; 3 sons, Gary (Gretchan) of Clinton Township, MI, Tom (Ginny) of Sheridan, WY and John (Jeanette) of Gig Harbor WA; 2 daughters, Gail (George) Berry of Bremen, ME and Cathy (Bob) Logar of Manhattan, MT; 12 grandchildren, Leigh (Zach) Townsend, Mandy (Jeremy) Campbell, Laura (Jason) Lemke, Justin Racette, Meghan Racette, Adam Logar, Beth Logar, Anna Berry, Cassie Berry, Connor Racette, Julia Racette and Lissa Racette; 4 great grandchildren, Isiah, Alliah, Sierra and Sienna Campbell; 2 sisters, Penny (Joe) Dundovic of Minneapolis and Kathleen (Charlie) Latimer of Kansas City, MO.
A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, April 22, from 9 until the 10:00 AM Memorial Service in Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake with Pastor Jan Mehlhoff officiating. Memorials are preferred to Hope Lutheran Church Building Fund.
