Leslie "Les" Allan Lund
Leslie "Les" Allan Lund, 69, of Askov, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2006, at Pine Medical Center Nursing Home in Sandstone.
Les was born on September 23, 1936 in Askov, to Leonard H. and Lydia (Jensen) Lund.
Les attended Askov High School and graduated in 1954. Les then worked for American Publishing Company in Askov until he was drafted into the Army in 1959 for the Korean Conflict. He spent the next two years in Germany, was honorably discharged and returned to work in Askov as a pressman at American Publishing Company. After 30 years at American Publishing Company he retired. Les was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Askov, the National Rifle Association, North American Hunting Club, Ducks Unlimited, Danish Brotherhood Society, and Askov Fire and Rescue. Les enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and going to the casino. He is well know in the area as an organic vegetable farmer.
Les was preceded in death by his parents and his faithful hunting dog, Tina.
He is survived by his brother, Leonard G. Lund of Duluth; his sister, Lorraine Peterson (Donald) of Askov; three nieces, Lisa Wright, Sharon Pederson and Sandy Lund; three nephews, David Peterson, Michael Peterson, Tom Lund and many great nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services were held on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Askov. Arrangements were made by Hansen Mankie Funeral Home, Sandstone.
Nancy Heikkila
Nancy (Lindquist) Heikkila, 72 of Cromwell, passed away Monday, August 21, 2006 in Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake. She was born June 15, 1934 in Duluth to Paul and Nettie (Pallage) Lindquist.
A wonderful lady who appreciated humor, family and friends, Nancy is survived by her husband of 47 years, William Heikkila of Cromwell; her daughters, Carolyn (Mark) Henry-Johanson of Saint Paul and Mary Heikkila (partner Nate Pate) of Minneapolis; her brother, Jon (Carol) Lindquist of North Saint Paul; her grandchildren, Tyler Bartho-lomew, Zoe Bartholomew and Anna Lukens, as well as many other family members and dear friends in the community.
Memorial service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2006 in Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to the Alzheimers Association of Washington Ave, Cloquet. The visitation will continue on Monday, August 13, 2007 from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am Funeral Service also in the Funeral Home. Reverend Barbara Birkeland officiating. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet.

Charles DeFoe

Charles DeFoe age 73 of Cloquet passed away in St. Lukes Hospital on August 13, 2007. He was born on May 16, 1934 in Cloquet to Francis and Virginia (Northrup) DeFoe.
Charles enjoyed 4-wheeling, riding scooters and walking. He retired as a Security Guard from the Fond du Lac Reservation.
He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Glen, Laura, Brenda, Sharon and Jeanie and his parents.
Charles is survived by his brother Richard DeFoe; his sister Katie DeFoe; Uncle Edward (Sue) DeFoe; cousins Gail Thompson and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2007 from 5 – 8 pm in Handevidt Funeral Home, 900 Thompson and Mike Peacock Sr., Judy and Les Northrup and Billy and Marcy Smith all of Cloquet; two nieces, Lilyanna and Atianha of Cloquet; uncles and aunts, Mike Jr. (Richelle) Peacock, Rhonda (Bob) Peacock, Lataya (Jason) Peacock, Veronica Smith, Vicky (Roger Sr.) Smith, Vanessa Northrup, Monica Smith, Rachel Smith, Mariah Smith, Richard Smith all of Cloquet and Velvet (Ron) Linden of Duluth; two very special cousins, Danielle and Morningstar Webster of Cloquet; and many other family and friends.
A funeral service was held on August 14, 2007 at the Holy Family Catholic Church with Deacon Terry Twomey officiating.

Arlene Helen Wolner

Arlene Helen Wolner, age 92 of Cloquet passed away on August 20, 2007 in Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton. She was born on October 10, 1914 in Cloquet to Charles and Hilda (Kelseth) Everson.
She married Frederick Wolner on May 31, 1941. She was mayor of Cloquet from 1976 to 1982 and a member of the Cloquet Community hospital board, the Shaw Memorial Library board and numerous other community organizations. She was president of the Inter-Faith Care Center Residence Board. Arlene was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
Arlene is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (Bruce) Moland of New Brighten, MN and Perch Lake Township and Alice (David) Anderson of Traceys Landing, MD; grandchildren, Anne Syme, Christopher Moland, Brenda Nyquist, Betsy Ulrich, and Mitzi Franz; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Harriet Everson, Helen and Dee Wolner; and nine nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 2:00 pm at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 204 8th Street, Cloquet. Following the service, Arlene’s family will receive friends at Inter-Faith Care Center, 811 3rd Street, Carlton. There will be a private family interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Inter-Faith Care Center.
