ANN S. ESKURI
Ann S. Eskuri, 89, Kettle River, died Monday, May 16, 2005 in Henning, MN. She was born on April 19, 1916 in Hancock, Georgia A. Carroll, 57, of Cloquet, died Monday, May 23, 2005 at her home. She was born Jan. 10, 1948 in Mora, MN, to George and Ruth (Novak) Powers. Minnesota-Duluth. Georgia is survived by one son, Tran; and husband, Storm; her parents, George and Ruth Powers of Cloquet; three brothers: Darold (Hilda) Powers of Carlton, Dennis (Sandra) Powers of Ponca City, OK, and Robert (Sue) Powers of Becker, MN; two sisters: Carol (Norman) Stenzel of Moose Lake and Barbara (Richard) Cook of Cloquet; and numerous nieces and nephews.
PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICE was held Wednesday, May 25, 2005 in Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Inurnment will be in Pine City.
CLARENCE L. BROTEN
Clarence L. Broten, 75, of Caldwell, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home, with his wife, Jackie, and daughter, Betsy Diane, at his side on Wednesday, March 16, 2005, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Clarence was born on February 22, 1930, to Carl F. and Olga Broten, in Moose Lake. He lived and worked in the Moose Lake/Sturgeon Lake area where he farmed, drove school bus for 18 years and owned his own freight business. He met and married Jackie McGee on September 20, 1974, and made her four daughters his own. A year later those daughters were joined by a wonderful foster daughter, Dawn Johnson, and she remains a true daughter to this day. The family moved to Meadowlands, Minnesota. In 1980 they moved to Idaho where Clarence continued his foundry career at Gem State Alloys in Caldwell, where he worked for over 20 years. Clarence, Jackie and daughters had 30-plus wonderful years together in spite of the trials and tribulations of raising five girls. “Clancy” was well-liked and loved by all who knew him for his gentleness, kindness, and sense of humor. He was a lifelong hunter, and a near-perfect husband, father, and grandfather. He will be sorely missed by his wife, daughters and family. We feel blessed to have had him in our lives for 30 years. He was proud of and greatly loved his Minnesota where she grew up and attended school. At the age of 16, she moved to Chicago where she lived for many years and worked as an accountant. In 1972, she retired and returned to Moose Lake. Grace enjoyed needlepoint and will be remembered for her wit and sense of humor. She passed away on Monday, September 17, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake at the age of 89 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters, LouElla Feyma, Irma Mossberg and Lorraine Krietlow.
She is survived by 3 sisters, Beatrice (Ragnar) Hagfors of Moose Lake, Ferol (Art) Mossberg of Denver, Margarette Olsen of Moose Lake; also many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Grace Boltman was held on Monday, September 24, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Moose Lake with Rev. Todd Van Zee officiating. Music was provided by Becky Pemberton. Inurnment was at Riverside Cemetery in Moose Lake. Arrangements by Methven Funeral Home, Sandstone.
Ervin L. Ellefson
Ervin L. "Bud" Ellefson, age 71, of 5853 Rose Rd., Hermantown, MN passed away peacefully, September 18, 2001, at his son's home in Ashland, WI, surrounded by his family, following a valiant battle with emphysema. He was born October 19, 1929, in Barron, WI, the son of Herbert and Grace (Jacobson) Ellefson.
He graduated from Moose Lake High School, in 1948. After graduation, he served three years in the US Army. On September 16, 1950, he married Beverly Johnson, in Moose Lake, MN. In 1951, he returned to Moose Lake and joined his father in the Farm Implement business. In 1965, he began a career in banking at North Shore Bank of Commerce, in Duluth. He transferred to Airport State Bank, where he was the bank president. Bud moved to Republic Bank, where he was president until his retirement, in 1991. During his retirement, he served as interim president, at Mt. Iron Bank and also served on the Board of Directors at F&M Bank, in Superior. Throughout his career, Bud served on many different boards and committees, such as, Hope Lutheran Church Board, Hermantown, University of California; his father-in-law Frank Waldorf of Cloquet; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Visitation was held Sunday, September 23, 2001 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet with a wake service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation continued on Monday, September 24, 2001 until the 11:00 Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet, celebrated by Rev. Fr. Kenton Sailstad. Pallbearers were his five brothers, Art, Cub, Ken, Jer, Chip Kubis and Sherman Kortie. Honorary pallbearer was Curt Kubis "Ringbearer". Interment services followed at New Calvary Cemetery in Cloquet.
