Eldred “Eldie” Bastian
Eldred Leroy Bastian, 65, of Cambridge, died at his home August 23, 2000.
A memorial service was held at Cambridge Funeral Home-Strike Chapel Aug. 25 with Pastor Terry Baxter, Stewart Bastian and other family members leading. Color Guard was provided by Rum River VFW Post 2735 of Isanti. Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Bastian, Richard and Robert Baxter, Richard Bendiske, Tinker Crawford and Robert Trail.
He was born in Spencer Brook Township of Isanti County September 16, 1934 to William and Agnes Bastian. He attended Pine Brook School. Eldie served four years in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, then returned home, raised his family, and made his home in Isanti County for the rest of his life. He loved trapping and hunting, especially hunting, with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ralph; and an infant sister, Bernice.
He is survived by his sons, Bradley (Wendy) Bastian of Isanti; Stewart (Janelle) Bastian of Princeton; daughter, Julie Small of Anoka; grandchildren, Nickole, Tyler, Stephanie, Annika, Toshina and John; brother, Ronald Bastian of Cambridge and sisters, Marvel (Herb) Halverson of Fridley; Shirley (Richard) Trail of Minnesota. He moved to Washington University. He married Phyllis Maisonneuve February 12, 1951 in Hawarden, IA. After they left Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
Arthur Bosell
Arthur Fred Bosell, 83, of New Brighton, formerly of Dalbo, died August 30, 2000 at Maplewood Care Center.
Services were held Sept. 2 from Grace Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Don Erdmann officiating. Debbie Hintermeyer served as organist. Burial was in Morningside Memorial Gardens in Coon Rapids with Roger and Ronald Anderson, Jeff Beamer, and Damon, Daryn and Wayne Bosell as pallbearers.
He was born in Dalbo January 1, 1917 to Victor and Emma Bosell. He was raised in Dalbo where he attended school. On February 26, 1938 he married Lillian Strombeck of Princeton and they made th their home in the Twin Cities area and for the past 43 years, in New Brighton. Art had been an active member of Grace Evangelical Free Church of Fridley over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian; sons, Gary of Tucson, AZ. and Darwin of Coon Rapids; daughters, LeeAnn Bosell of Gilbert, AZ. and Lynette Bosell of Cambridge; sisters, Margaret Anderson of Cambridge; Lorraine (Chuck) Meyers of Plymouth and Betty (Larry) Reichel of Crawfordsville, IN; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were with Strike Funeral Home-Isanti Chapel.
Rudolph Peterson
Rudolph Chester Peterson, 83, of Cambridge, formerly of Harris, died August 31, 2000 at Cambridge Medical Center.
Services were held Sept. 6 at Fish Lake Lutheran Church in Stark with Rev. Walter Leitze officiating. The congregation sang “Now Thank We All Our God,” “O God Our Help In Ages Past,” “When Peace Like A River,” and “Children Of The Heavenly Father.” Organist was Crystal Peterson. Burial was in Fish Lake Lutheran Cemetery with Military Rites provided by Harris American Legion Post No. 139. Pallbearers were Harry Torell, Ronald Amschler, John and Joel Pace, Kenneth Holmstrom and Melvin Fairbanks.
He was born March 26, 1917 to Charlie and H. Victoria Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at Fish Lake Lutheran Church where he was a life-long member. He attended elementary school in Stark. He helped with work on the family farm until he enlisted in the Army in April 1941. His tour of duty took him to Tunisia, Naples, Rome, North Apennines and Po Valley. He received an Honorable Discharge in August 1945 and took pride in his veteran’s status. Upon returning to Harris he purchased his grandparent’s farm. In June 1956 he married Geraldine Anderson and they made their home on the Swenson Century Farm where a son, Roger, was born. Geraldine preceded him in death in 1991. He was a resident at Cambridge Health Care Center at the time of his death. During his active years he was a hard worker and a diligent wood cutter. He is remembered for his inclination to tease and for his ready smile.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Virgil.
He is survived by his son Roger Peterson of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Amanda and Robert; brother, Rev. Clarence Peterson of Robbinsdale and sister Gladys Torell of Cambridge.
Arrangements were with Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Ethel Cypher
Ethel Marie Cypher, 69, of Puyallup, WA. died August 28, 2000 at the Regency Nursing Home in Puyallup.
She was born September 21, 1930 to James and Lillian Harding in Henry, S.D. She grew up in that area and graduated from high school in Clark, S.D. She married LeRoy Cypher August 2, 1948 in Redfield, S.D. and the couple were parents of three sons. They lived and farmed in the Dakotas until spring 1963 when they moved to a farm in northern Minnesota, Ethel worked for 25 years at Cambridge State Hospital. Her husband, LeRoy, preceded her in death in 1980. In the early 1980s she became friends with Sheldon Goetz of whom she remained very close until his death in 1994. Ethel was a very bubbly, energetic and outgoing person that made good friends with everyone. She seemed to have a special tie with the younger generation. Through the years friends and loved ones would do anything for her because of the special way she was.
During the last few years, Ethel has been in a nursing home in Georgia. She grew up there and received her formal education at the Glynn Academy in Brunswick, GA. Until her retirement from the work force, she was employed as a circuit board technician in the electronics field. She was married to Harold Oakes from July 12, 1953 to June of 1968. She was later married to Walter Lindstrom from 1973 to 1975, and was married to Jim Gold from February 23, 1980 to the time of her death. Martha was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #51 in Pine City. She enjoyed fishing, knitting, crocheting, ceramics, and shopping. Her children affectionately cherish her enjoyment of ice cream, chocolate covered cherries, and southern pecan pie. She will always be remembered for her gentle southern hospitality of always serving others before herself.
Martha was preceded in death by her father, Burney K. Bennett, a grandson, and her sister, Jerry Fay Goodbread.
Besides her husband, Jim, she is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah (LeRoy) Peterson of Toledo, Iowa. They made their home in the Minneapolis-St. Louis Park area until 1985 when they moved to rural Isanti where have lived ever since. Her hobbies included going to flea markets, playing cards, and watching TV game shows. She also loved to travel with her family and friends.
Besides her parents, Levon was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Larson and Edward Larson.
Levon will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Larry, of Isanti; son, Larry (Pam) of Isanti; daughter, Diane Hedalen of Lino Lakes; brother, Albert (Helen) Larson of Stella, California; grandchildren, Shawn, Linnae, Derrek, and Lauren; and great-grandchildren, Brandy and Joey.
Wilfred Norstrom
Wilfred Claire Norstrom, 85, of Cambridge, died September 17, 2000 at Mille Lacs Hospital in Onamia.
Funeral services will be held Sept. 20 at Long Lake Lutheran Church with Rev. Howard Skulstad officiating. Mark Falk, accompanied by Kristy Anderson, will sing “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers will be Gerald and Wayne Anderson, Jim Schuelke, Doug and Wayne Murphy, and Joseph Norstrom. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Spencer Brook Township.
Wilfred Claire Norstrom was born August 21, 1915 in rural Isanti in Spencer Brook Township to Edward and Emma Norstrom. It was there he was raised and attended school. On November 15, 1941 he married Violet West. They made their home in Isanti County, living in Isanti, Cambridge, and rural Stanchfield. His wife, Violet passed away on April 30, 1985. In August 1986 he married Ruth Amschler and they made their home in rural Cambridge. His wife, Ruth, passed away November 27, 1998. Wilfred was a member of Long Lake Lutheran Church in rural Isanti. He was employed by Isanti County Highway Department for 30 years, retiring in January 1981. Wilfred enjoyed woodworking and camping. He was a member of the Blue Lakers and Good Sam Camping Clubs.
He is survived by two sons, Craig (Margaret) Norstrom of Cambridge, Dale Norstrom of Ham Lake; daughter, Phyllis (Dennis) Murphy of Millbank, South Dakota; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were entrusted to the care of the Cambridge Funeral Home-Strike Chapel.
Kenneth Buchan
Kenneth M. Buchan, 90, of Cambridge, died September 14, 2000 at his home. A memorial service was held Sept. 18 from Springvale Baptist Church with Rev. David Anderson officiating. Jan Sundvall sange “One Day at a Time,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “You Are My Sunshine.” Pallbearers were Darren Roberts, Trevor Roberts, Troy Buchan, Ben Buchan, Travis Buchan, Todd Rudquist, and Trent Rudquist. A private family interment was held at the Springvale Baptist Cemetery.
He was born March 1, 1910, is Osceola County, Bradford Township and lived most of his life in Isanti County. He was employed as an auto mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alford and Beatrice; an infant brother, David; and by his brother, Phillip.
He is survived by his sons, Timothy (Dawn) of Ham Lake; and Thomas (Christine) of Blaine; daughter, Lisa (Mark) Echos of Michigan.
Arrangements were with the Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Dorothy Lindberg
Dorothy Caroline Lindberg, 86, of Chaska, formerly of Isanti and Princeton, died at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee September 13, 2000.
A memorial service was held Sept. 16 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Princeton with Rev. Steven Cook officiating. Music was by soloist Teri Tou and organist, Sondra Erickson. Burial was in Long Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural Isanti with her grandchildren, Dan and Gretchen Affeldt, Erika Ehrich, Jodi Lockwood, and Derek, Kim, Ross and Ryan Lindberg as honorary pallbearers. Arrangements were with Williams-Hanson-Kaun Funeral Home in Princeton.
She was born on the family farm in Bradford Township.
Gloria Petersen
Gloria Ann Petersen, 47, of North Branch, died at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis September 5, 2000.
Services were held Sept. 8 from Rock-Mankie Funeral Home in Braham with Rev. Dale Cope officiating. Burial was in Salem Lutheran Cemetery in rural Dalbo with Emmit Petersen Jr., Allan DeJoode, Bob Carlson, and Jack, Bill and Robert Jensen as pallbearers.
She was born in Minneapolis December 7, 1952 to Marvin and Delores Jensen. She started school in East Bethel and graduated from Braham High School in 1971. She married Emmit Petersen Sr. in 1972 and they lived in Cambridge. Gloria worked at Cambridge Health Care Center for a number of years and for the last 10 years has worked at People’s Cafe. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family. For relaxation, Gloria enjoyed fishing and being outside.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Delores Jensen and by her sister, Victoria Bell.
She is survived by her daughters, Lora (Robert) Carlson of Stanchfield; and Lisa Petersen of North Branch; son, Emmit (Molly) Petersen Jr. of North Branch; nine grandchildren; paternal grandmother, Mae Jensen of Dalbo; special friend, Allen DeJoode; and former husband, Emmit Petersen Sr. of Braham.
Marilyn Trader
Marilyn Janet Trader, 71, of Belle Plaine, formerly of Long Prairie and Cambridge, died September 8, 2000 at Belle Plaine Lutheran Home.
A graveside service was held Sept. 12 at Cambridge Union Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Glad officiating.
She was born in Detroit, Mich. August 13, 1929 to Antone and Judith (Peterson) Trader. She lived at home until she was 15 and then spent time in Long Prairie, MN., Cambridge State Hospital, and most recently at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.
Marilyn enjoyed animals, jewelry and her many dolls and “babies.”
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Arrangements were with Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Naomi King
Naomi Darlene King, 82, of Cambridge, died at Grandview Christian Home September 11, 2000.
Services were held at Grandview Sept. 14 with graveside services held at Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice, NE. Sept. 16.
She was born in Wymore, NE. October 6, 1917 to Charles and Mamie Smith. On June 26, 1939 she married Lyle A. King and they moved to California in 1972. They were active in their church and community and had many friends. Due to health reasons they moved to Minnesota in 1996 to be near two of their daughters.
She is survived by her husband, Lyle A. King; daughters, Karen Muhlhauser, Sharlene McChesney; Kathryn (Jim) Wilson and Koneta King; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
