Hilma Falk
Hilma Margaret Falk, 92, of Cambridge, died December 30, 2000.
Services were held Jan. 3 from North Isanti Baptist Church with Rev. Jonathan Larson officiating. Music was provided by The Abrahamson Sisters with Darlene Fixell as accompanist. Organist was Lois Larson. Burial was in the church cemetery with Brian Nelson, Mark Anderson, Jeffrey Falk Binger, Brent Anderson, Cliff Dupslaff and Patrick White as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Jimmy Falk.
She was born in Cambridge, April 9, 1908, the youngest daughter of Emmanuel and Brita Selina (Hjeltman) Anderson. She grew up in the Bodum area where she attended country school. Following graduation from high school, she attended Normal School where she received her teaching certificate. On December 25, 1933 she married Russell Falk at the Falk farm. The couple lived in the Bodum area where they farmed and then spent a short time in the Fish Lake area before moving back to the farm in 1948. Hilma, along with her teaching and farming, was a 4-H leader, as well as an active member of North Isanti Baptist Church and its Women’s Group. She also served as the assessor for Isanti Township. Hilma loved her flower and vegetable gardens, was an excellent cook and hostess and was known for her wonderful hospitality. Her family will remember Hilma’s life as the three “G’s”....God, Gardening and Good food. She and Russell spent much of their retired life traveling throughout the United States and enjoyed a trip to Sweden. Hilma was Russell’s caregiver prior to his death June 17, 1991.
She was preceded in death by Russell and by eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children, Keith (Gladys) of Harris; Stuart (Mary) Falk of Cambridge; Karin (Darrell) Anderson of Wayzata; Kathryn Falk of Plymouth; James (Mary) of Hermantown and Susan Falk of Shoreview; grandchildren, Christine (Clint) Dupslaff; Candace; Jeffrey (Carol); Kathryn (Patrick) White; Julie (Brian) Nelson; Alison, Mark (Mirjana), Brent, James Russell and Heather (Brian) Faldalen and great-grandchildren, Greta, Eli,Dylan, Shawn, Ryan, Hannah, Tyler, Travis, Carolyn and Laura.
Arrangements were with Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Russell Neukom
Russell Grant Neukom, 53, of rural Mora, died at his home December 30, 2000 following a good fight against cancer.
A memorial service was held Jan. 5 at Rock Mankie Funeral Home in Braham with Rev. Peter Rosenkvist officiating. Pallbearers were Ricky Barnes, David Robenson, Kenny Gardner of Mora; nephews, Loni (Kim) Gardner of Mora and by his niece, Melony of Minneapolis.

Jon A. McFetridge
Jon A. McFetridge, 15, of Stanchfield, was chosen to go with God on January 6, 2000 after a courageous fight during his stay at University of Georgia and Maryann Steffen accompanied by Ruth Anderson. Pallbearers were grandsons Danny and Randy Kennedy, Todd Steffen, Scott Walton,Brian Kennedy, Clinton Steffen, and Douglas Walton. Honorary Pallbearers were grandchildren Dale Richmond, Sharon Groen, Cheryl Steffen, Richard Steffen, Pam Burmeister, Jeanette Sauk, Bruce Steffen, Kathy Lowery, Larry, Rick , and Daryl Steffen, Jeanne Faber, Sherry Grove, Steve Kennedy, Kim Bossen, Vikki Morford, and Rhonda Ludewig. Sophia was laid to rest next to her husband Henry in Siloa Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Sophia Margaret Steffen, daughter of Thomas and Theodora (Blohm) Broderson, was born June 27, 1900 at Wyncoat, Iowa. She attended school and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Midway, Iowa and they lived and farmed near Moville and Climbing Hill, California for five years. In the late 1940s they returned to Cambridge where she has since made her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben, in 1986; brother, Rudolph Olson in 2000 and sister, Ruth Onorato on January 9, 2001.
She is survived by daughters Elaine Ashford of New Brighton and Janet Axell of Kodiak, ALA; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Mildred (Delmer) Erickson of Cambridge and special nephew, Stewart Cewe of Highland Park, IL.
Ruth Olson Onorato
Ruth Olson Onorato, 84, of Lake Tahoe, CA. and native of Cambridge, died January 9, 2001 in California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank and brother, Rudolph Olson. Her sister, Martha Axell of Cambridge, died four days later on January 13, 2001.
She is survived by her sons, Stewart Cewe of Highland Park, IL; and Frank Onorato Jr. of Hawaii; two grandchildren and sister, Mildred (Delmer) Erickson of Cambridge.
Helen Johnson
Helen Marian (Brady) Johnson, 87, of Cambridge, died peacefully January 12, 2001 after a long illness.
A memorial service was scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge with Chaplain Paul Reynolds officiating. Music will be by Nancy Peabody and Carol Forsythe. Burial will be in Breckenridge, MN. later this spring.
Formerly of Ottertail Lake, MN. and Mesa, AZ. Helen had been living with her niece and her husband, Helen and Tom Thomas in Cambridge. She was born September 24, 1915 in Doran, MN. to John J. and Clara (Johnson) Brady. After receiving her BS degree from Moorhead State, she began her lifetime of helping children develop a love of learning. She was renowned for her innovative and excellent teaching, She married E. Oliver Johnson in 1942 and while she taught school, he farmed their three farms in the Red River Valley. Helen was faithful to her Lord, Jesus Christ and was a living testimony to Him through her loving kindnesses and faithful stewardship. She lived life to the fullest with family and friends. She was known for her volunteer efforts with migrant children and the church. In retirement she continued helping others and was consistent in her weekly work at the Society for the Blind in Phoenix. She continued her running in Mesa and several times won the Parker of Cambridge and Mesa, AZ; brother, William (Angie) Brady of Mesa and Pelican Lake, MN; sister-in-law, Florence Brady of Pasadena, CA; nieces and nephews, Steven (Cindy) Brady of Loveland; Beverly (Bill) Lindsey of Collinsville, IL; Bill (Dina) Brady of Fargo; Caroline Garcia of Henderson, NV; Mike (Vicki) Brady of El Segundo, CA; Linda Brady of Arcadia, CA; Rhonda Schilaci of Turino, Italy; 22 grand-nieces and nephews; six great-grand-nieces and nephews and special friends, Lynn Schendal of Albuquerque, N.M. and Dave and Kathy Mizer of Estes Park, CO.

Dorothy Grosnick
Dorothy D. Grosnick, 93, of Cambridge, formerly of Hopkins, died January 15, 2001 at Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge.
Services were held Jan. 20 from Cambridge Lutheran Church with Rev. Erling Tungseth officiating. Music was provided by family members. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis with Mark and Ken Jacobson, Jim Brewer, Eric Krueger, Todd Lines and Jeff Abbas as pallbearers.
She was born in Aurora, MN. November 8, 1907 to George and Otelia Aspi. The eighth of 10 children, she was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Methodist Church in Aurora where she grew up and attended school. She later attended Duluth State Teacher’s College. She married Lloyd Roy Chase in Minneapolis in 1927 and they were parents of four children, Catherine, Elizabeth (Betty), Roy and Roger. Dorothy was employed in the offices of Sears Roebuck in Minneapolis. She raised her four children alone until she married Alfred Grosnick in 1948. Dorothy and Alfred enjoyed their home in St. Louis Park, traveling the United States pulling their Airstream travel unit behind their car; fishing and entertaining at their lake home on Eleventh Crow Wing Lake and Akeley, MN. and time with their children and grandchildren.
Alfred died February 25, 1973 while they were vacationing in Bradford Township August 19, 1904 to Eric and Minnie Rosenquist. She attended Pine Grove School and lived her entire life in Isanti County. On October 7, 1922 she married Harry Lindberg and they lived on a farm in Bloomford in rural Isanti. In the late 1930s they moved to Cambridge and Hildur worked at Cambridge State Hospital from 1948 until her retirement in 1970. She was an avid traveler, gardener, seamstress and quilter. She was interested on politics and an active participant in the peace movement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; infant daughter, Yvonne; sons, Virgil and Bennett; great-grandson, Todd Salisbury; brothers, Waldemar, Harold, Hjalmer and Karl Rosenquist; sisters, Amanda Lindberg, Rose Johnson, Ruth Rosenquist, Sigrid Sharp, Gladys Dahlin and Esther From.
She is survived by her son, Gary; daughters, Phyllis Green and Arlene Becklin; sister, Sylvia Lood; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were with Cambridge Funeral Home-Strike Chapel.
Wendle Rennaker Sr.
Wendle LeRoy Rennaker Sr., 75, of Cambridge, died January 19, 2001 at Cambridge Medical Center.
Services were held Jan. 22 from Joy Lutheran Church with Rev. David Franzmeier officiating. Music was provided by Anita and Angie McColley. Judy Lundeen was the organist. Burial was in Isanti Union Cemetery with Tom, Patrick, Ty and Tim Rennaker, and Chad and John Grabenbauer as pallbearers.
He was born in Minneapolis December 3, 1925 to Frank and Charlotte (Burk) Rennaker. He grew up in the Worthington area where he attended school. After school he worked at Campbell’s Packing Plant for a short time. On February 20, 1943 he married Rose DeWitt in Worthington where they lived until moving to Brainerd. In May 1944 Wendle enlisted in the U.S. Army as Sergeant in Company K Regiment 70th Infantry Division in World War II. He was honorably discharged in February 1946 and the family moved to Brainerd where they farmed for a few years. They later lived in Mora and in 1959 moved to Cambridge where they have lived ever since. Wendle worked many jobs including for several years at Cambridge State Hospital until 1986 when his health prevented him from working. Wendle enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, water skiing, fishing, playing ball and playing his electric organ. He was one of the first members of Isanti County Safety & Rescue where he helped for many years. He was a member of Cambridge American Legion and Isanti VFW. He and Rose volunteered at the Senior Activity Center in Cambridge and at Grandview Christian Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters at birth.
He is survived by his wife, Rose, of Cambridge; children, Gary (Carol) Rennaker of Walla Walla, WA; Wendle Rennaker Jr. and fiancee’ Janice Nevala of Fridley; Connie Downs of Hartsville, TN; Dennis Rennaker of Cambridge; Candy (Jerry) McColley of St. Francis; Colleen (Doug) Becklin of Cambridge; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne (Irene) Rennaker of Dover, DE; Frank (Ardis) Rennaker of Blaine; Gaylord (Carol) Rennaker of Cambridge; sisters, Shirley (Jack) Karstens of Cambridge and Beverly DeGriselles of St. Louis Park and by his half-brother, Denzil Rennaker of N.Y. in the 1930s where she met Dan Tiefenthaler. They married in 1940 and moved to Minnesota in 1990 and settled in St. Anthony near her brother, Arthur, and his family. Following Arthur’s death in 1993 she moved to Cambridge where she remained until her death. In her travels about the world she made many friends with whom she communicated until her recent illnesses.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; daughter, Margaret; and brothers, Emanuel and Arthur.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Rainer Weitz of San Jose, CA; Ingrid Soyland of San Diego, CA; and Sonja McColl of Falkirk, Scotland; three great-grandchildren one nephew; one niece; and several cousins.
Arrangements were with Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Matthew Rice
Matthew Ralph Rice, infant son of Brian and Tiffany Rice, died at the age of five minutes, January 13, 2001 at Cambridge Medical Center.
Services were held Jan. 15 from Cambridge Funeral Home-Strike Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Beale officiating. Burial was in Isanti Union Cemetery.
He is survived by his parents, Brian and Tiffany of Lino Lakes’ brother, Christopher; grandparents, James and Mavourneen Albright of Stanchfield and Chuck Rice of Florida; Wes Phillips of Nebraska; uncles Jimi, Bill, Kurt and Joe and aunts, April, Miki and Judy.
Glen Anderson
Glen Anderson, 79, of Sandstone, formerly of Bradford Township in Isanti County. They had a large vegetable farm and sold their produce at a stand along Hwy. 65 near Ham Lake. Glen was very proud of his gardening and vegetables and also enjoyed cutting wood. For the last six years he has lived in Sandstone.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie, 16 years ago and by three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his son, Oral (Butch) Anderson and his wife, Nadene, of Isanti; daughter, Sandra (Francis) Collins of St. Francis; brother, Roy (Lanetta) Anderson of Sandstone; sister, May (Phil) Bouley of Arizona and by five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were with Strike Funeral Home-Isanti Chapel.
Donald W. Peterson
Donald W. Peterson, 82, of Braham died January 10, 2001 at Birchwood Health Care Center in Forest Lake.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 at Braham Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. Richard Chronis officiating. Burial will be this spring in the Stanchfield Baptist Cemetery. A visitation with no reviewal will be held from 10 to 11a.m. at the church on Saturday.
He was preceded in death by his parents August and Tillie, his wife Fern,brothers, Cully, Mike, Burt, and Aldean; granddaughter Amanda, and his cousin Harley.
He is survived by sons, Bradley (Julie) Peterson of Oakdale, Murray (Beverly) Peterson of Marshall, MN, daughter Jill Peterson of Milwaukee, Wi., grandchildren, Erica, Jared, Krystina, and Matthew, brother Budd (Ruth) Peterson of Cambridge; and his cousin Meyers (Daphne) Peterson of Cambridge.

Clarol Babb
Clarol (Punky) Babb, 67, of Apache Junction, AZ., died at Apache Junction Health Care Center January 26, 2001.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at Love of Christ Lutheran Church, 1525 N Power Rd., Mesa, AZ. Additional services will be held in Cambridge at a later date.
He was born January 26, 1934 to Raymond and Cecile Babb of Cambridge. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1952 and entered the U.S. Army in 1953. After military service, he started work at Sperry Univac, now Unisys, and worked there for 32 years. He married Carol Minar December 3, 1960 and they lived in Coon Rapids until his retirement in 1991 and they moved to Fountain of the Sun in Mesa, AZ.
He loved hunting, fishing, playing golf, billiards and cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Donald.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Debra (Andy) Stickney; sons, Jeffery (Tammy); and Randell (Norma); five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean (Richard) Larson and Eleanor Lood; brothers, Dwaine (Ruth) and Clyde (Audrie) and sister-in-law, Sylvia Babb.
Annette Carlson
Annette Ruth Carlson, 82, of Cambridge, died at Cambridge Medical Center, surrounded by her family, January 27, 2001.
Services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31 at Stanchfield Baptist Church with Pastor Dale Cope officiating. Music will be provided by Teri Downing with Anne Carlson on the organ. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Ryan Nelson, Brent, Skip and Jesse Carlson, Jay Seegert and Dave Johnson as active pallbearers and Yrjö (George) Solorinne as honorary pallbearer.
She was born in Minneapolis July 4, 1918 to Hans and Lena (Groth) Vegsund. After attending Rice Lake school, she graduated from Vocational High School in Minneapolis. On March 23, 1940 she married John S. Carlson at the Gospel Hall in North Minneapolis and they were parents of Lee, Paulette, and Sheldon. Annette and John lived in Maple Ridge for a short time and then purchased a farm east of Stanchfield. In 1947 they moved their family to Braham after purchasing the furniture business there. In 1973, while owning Lewis Department Store, they moved to Cambridge where they continued to live until the present time. Annette was very dedicated to serving her Lord through her church and was privileged to be a deaconess at Stanchfield Baptist Church. She blessed many lives by teaching Sunday School and Bible school, singing in the choir, working in the library and serving through women’s ministries at Stanchfield. Annette was also very involved in the Braham and Cambridge communities with the Grandview Auxiliary and Christian Women’s Club. She spent many years assisting her husband in their business in both Braham and Cambridge.
Annette’s love for her family was exceeded only by her love for God. Her prayers were answered as she prayed each one of her family into God’s family through a personal relationship with God.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Gabrielson.
She is survived by her loving husband, John; son, Lee (Fern) Carlson of Andover and their children, Becky (Dave) Johnson and Brent (Heather) Carlson; daughter Paulette (Conrad) Nelson of Stanchfield; and their children, Ryan (Rebecca) Nelson and Kristina (Joshua) Kirsch; son, Rev. Sheldon (Anne) Carlson of Milaca and their children, April, Skip, Casey, Jesse and Brooke; her brother, Jerrold (Martha) Vegsund of Blaine; sister, Lois (Don) Seegert of Waukesha, WI.; and great-grandchildren, Emily, Linnea, Jacob and Matthew.
