Rebecca Skatrud
Funeral services were held March 2, 2001 at Braham Ev. Covenant Church for Rebecca June Skatrud, 53, of rural Princeton, with Rev. Steve Jennisch, Rev. Robert DeYoung, and Pastor Phil Larson participating. Music was provided by Nathan McLean and Sharon Carlson. Burial was in Grasston Union Cemetery with Nathan McLean, David Bassit, Leonard McLean, Michael Borchardt and Lee Bryngelson as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Jason Pierce and Douglas Tweedt.
The daughter of Leonard and Inez (Hodgson) Skatrud she was born June 25, 1948 in Hawarden, Texas, Nathan (Andrea) McLean of Dubuque, Iowa, Amy(Lee) Bryngelson of Brooklyn Park;, Jenni (David) Bassitt of Brooklyn Park.

Herma Serline
Herma Christine Serline, 85, of Zimmerman, died February 26, 2001 at Green Acres Adult Foster Care north of Mora.
Services were held March 2 from St. John Lutheran Church of Zimmerman with Rev. Dr. Mari Larson and Rev. Paul Rogers officiating. Music was provided by Bea Bastyr and Darlene Walburg. Burial was in Rice Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Braham with Curtis, Marvin, Ronald, Darwin, Donovan and Greg Stromberg as pallbearers.
She was born in Brunswick Township of Kanabec County August 17, 1915 to Hans and Marie (Holmstrom) Stromberg. She grew up in the Brunswick area, attending Dist. 19 School and Fish Lake Mission Church. She was a long-time Sears employee, first working in downtown Minneapolis and later at the Brookdale store. She married Ames A. Serline April 24, 1943 at Brunswick Lutheran and they lived on a farm in Grass Lake before moving to Minneapolis in 1951. In 1962 they moved to Zimmerman. Ames preceded her in death March 23, 1986. She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church of Zimmerman and a member of Eastern Star.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by nine siblings.
She is survived by her sister, Alice Eckstrom of Mora; brother, Harry (Bernice) Stromberg of Mora; sister-in-law, Martha Stromberg of Mora and close friends who were like family.

Elsie Roberts
Elsie Irene Roberts, 94, of Fridley, formerly of Isanti, died at Fridley Convalescent Home February 28, 2001.
Services were held at Strike Funeral Home-Isanti Chapel March 3 with Rev. Leroy Scheumann officiating. Burial was in Kimball Cemetery.
She was born in Kimball, MN. August 31, 1906 to Cris and Ellen Flindt. She was raised in Kimball where she attended school. On June 30, 1926 she married Gorman Roberts in Kimball and they lived in Waterloo, IA until 1972 when they moved to Isanti. Two years ago they moved to Coon Rapids and then in October 1999 to the Fridley Convalescent Home. She was a member of Oxlip Ev. Free Church. In her earlier years she enjoyed gardening and traveling and did hand work, knitting and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gorman and daughter, Shirley.
She is survived by sons, Darrell (fiancee Kathy); Marlyn (Birdie); David (Bonnie); Lester (Jean); daughters, Sharlene Clochie; Carol (Lloyd) Johnson and Barbara (Duane) Uhl; 22 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Virgil Kafer
Virgil Leroy Kafer, 77, of Isanti, died at his home February 22, 2001.
Services were held Feb. 25 from Strike Funeral Home-Isanti Chapel with Rev. Richard Pixler officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes with Ivan Fletcher, Brent, Justin, Kenneth and Travis Kafer and Steve Lind as pallbearers.
He was born February 23, 1923 in Park Rapids, MN. to Lenard and Iva Kafer. At a young age he moved with his family to Staples where he was raised and attended school until the 10th grade. The family then moved to Detroit Lakes where he graduated from high school in 1941. In 1942 he began two years service to his country in the U.S. Navy Air Corps. After his military service he returned to Detroit Lakes where he married Marian Jarrett July 21, 1944. After a short time they moved to the Minneapolis area where Virgil was employed as a tool and die machinist at Honeywell. He worked at Honeywell for many years and also started his own business, “Kafer Kraft” which he operated for 25 years. Virgil was also a woodworker and had his own woodworking shop. In 1978 he and Marian moved to rural Isanti where they have lived ever since. Virgil was always working on a project, some of which were making wooden boats and building campers. His hobbies also including woodcarving, camping, gardening and boating.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lenard.
He is survived by his wife, Marian; mother, Iva of Detroit Lakes; sons, Dan (Cynthia) of Douglas City, CA; Gary (Christine) of Cohutta, GA; Russell of Portland, OR; and Curtis (Jeanette) of Isanti; daughter, Melanie (Daniel) Anderson of Cambridge; grandchildren, Daneal, Cory, Stacey, Nattalie, Justin, Travis, Brent and Kenneth Kafer and Anna and Kalem Anderson; and great-grandchildren, Logan and Marina.
Glynn “Rip” Simon Jr.
Glynn Vincent “Rip” Simon Jr., 53, died unexpectedly February 27, 2001 at his home in St. Francis.
Services were held March 3 from Long Lake Lutheran Church with Rev. Howard Skulstad officiating. John Lundeen, accompanied by Judy Lundeen, sang “On Eagles’ Wings” and “In The Garden.”
He was born in Minneapolis June 27, 1947 to Glynn Sr. and Charlotta Simon. He was raised in Minneapolis and graduated from Edison High School. He attended Northwestern Electronics Institute, Minneapolis Business School and Concordia College. On August 19, 1978 he married Cleo Nickila and they lived in Forest Lake until 1994 when they moved to St. Francis. Rip was a 20-year employee of NEI College of Technology. He was a member of AITP, PACT, Khurum Sunlight Lodge No. 112, American Legion Post 622 (SAL) of St. Francis and Long Lake Community Club at McGregor. He enjoyed camping, bowling, fishing and boating, working on various projects and using his computer.
He is survived by his wife, Cleo of St. Francis; daughter, Tiffany Simon of San Jose, CA; stepchildren, Dean (Stephanie) Nickila of East Bethel; Teresa (Patrick) Ebertz of Anoka; Julie (Chris) Gnetz of Inver Grove; four grandchildren; brother, Gerry (Audrey) Simon of McGregor; sisters, Annie Gemlo of Minneapolis and Audrey (Earl) Taylor of Oak Grove and by his aunt, Eleanor, of Cambridge.
Arrangements were with Strike Funeral Home-Isanti Chapel.
E. Victoria Matheus
E. Victoria Matheus, 93, of Cambridge, died February 27, 2001 at Grandview Christian Home.
Services were held March 3 at Linwood Covenant Church in Wyoming United Methodist Cemetery with Eric Bates, Charles Dorcas, Brett, Clark and Don Johnson and Ken Ziebol as pallbearers.
She was born in Brooklyn, New York for several years before moving to Wyoming, MN. in 1976 and in 1994 she moved to Grandview. She was very active in her church and she especially enjoyed music and playing the piano.
She was preceded in death by her husband, K. Gunnar in March 1997; sisters, Martha and Gladys and brother, Robert.
She is survived by her daughter Alyce (Chuck) Johnson of Arizona, Illinois and Emily of Bethel; mother, Martha Pryor of Ashford, Stone of Ham Lake; and Carol (Lyle) Ramberg of Harris; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were with Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.
John Blumer
John Gustave Blumer, 71, died at his home in Isanti March 5, 2001.
Services were held March 9 at River of Life church in Cambridge with Pastor Mark Radeke officiating. Darren Sedler was the soloist and Karin Bonon served as pianist. Burial was in Stanford Cemetery with Dallas and Daniel Anderson, Terry Miller, Brent, Les and Nick Johnson, Jeremy Yates and Donny Yureko as pallbearers.
He was born in Osseo March 7, 1929 to John F. and Rose Blumer. He was raised in the Osseo area where he attended school. On May 19, 1951 he married Donna Pickering and they lived in Minneapolis until May 1953 when they moved to Isanti where he has lived ever since. John worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 41 years. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and especially his dogs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; daughter, JoAnne; son, Jeff; four brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his son, John (Polly) of Isanti; daughters, Linda (Sunny) Johnson of Isanti; Cheryl (Brad) Slater of Isanti; and Deberah (Bud) Anderson of Mora; sisters, Lillian Weston of Fridley; Rose Lawrence and Lila Ensley, both of Indianapolis, IN; Charles Matteson of North Branch; Wade Matteson of Staples; Joel (Shareen) Matteson of Cambridge; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and brothers, Jesse Stephenson of Canton, N.C. and Warren Stephenson of Leesburg, FL.
Roy Lidke
Roy Walter Lidke, 92, of Cambridge, died March 28, 2001 at Cambridge Medical Center.
Services were held April 2 from Cambridge Lutheran Church with Rev. Erling Tungseth officiating. Michael Dee, accompanied by Mary Kay O'Neill, sang "In The Garden" and "When Peace Like A River." Burial was in Rice Lake Cemetery with Gary Lidke, Al Jensen, Dan Erickson, J. David Walker, Levi Lidke and Scott Jensen as pallbearers.
He was born in Martin County, MN April 2, 1908 to Albert and Emma Lidke. He grew up on a farm near Northrup, MN where he attended country school. After school he drove a milk truck delivering milk for the farmer's co-op creamery. On February 17, 1934 he married Martha Meyer in Mankato and in 1942 they moved to the Coin area where they lived until 1945 when they moved to Day where they farmed for 20 years. In 1965 they moved to Braham where Roy worked for Aurelius Mfg., Dahlman Mfg. and Braham Monument. In 1985 they moved to Cambridge. He had been a member of Cambridge Lutheran Church for the last 13 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, trapping, hunting, farming, building things, music and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Lidke, brother, Alfred Lidke, and his sister, Mabel Sauk.
He is survived by his wife, Martha of Cambridge; daughter, Marlys Walker of Bloomington; daughter-in-law, Harriet Lidke of Braham; grandchildren, Gary (Cathy) Lidke of Grasston; Shari (Al) Jensen of Stanchfield; Mari (Dan) Erickson of Stanchfield; Susan Walker of Shakopee; K. David (Jane) Walker of Minnetonka; great-grandchildren, Julie and Levi Lidke; Scott and Tim Jensen; Jenni Erickson and Andrew Walker; and by his brother, Everett Lidke of Rochester.
