John M. Larson, Sr.
John Marshall Larson, 59, of Isanti, died July 27, 2001 at his daughter’s home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 from Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Nenick officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, 5-8 p.m. at Carlson-Labatte Funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be J.J., Andy and Josh Larson, Dale (Bud) Kitchenmaster, Aaron, Nathan, Charles and Ryan Fisher. Honorary pallbearers will be Nickolas and Justin Larson. Interment will be at Athens Cemetery.
John was born February 14, 1942 in St. Paul, MN to Oliver and Delores (Dalton) Larson. He grew up in St. Paul, later lived in Mora, and most recently with his daughter in Isanti. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He loved his gardening, fishing, hunting, and the Minnesota, to Martin and Lelia Worlie. It was there that he was raised and lived his early years. On February 1, 1951, he married Ardis Peterson in Minneapolis. They made their first home in St. Paul where Duane worked for Waldorf Paper Company until he retired in 1994. They moved to Isanti in 1997. Duane enjoyed gardening and watching western movies in television.
He is survived by his wife, Ardis of Isanti; children, John (Kathy) Worlie of Cambridge, Joy (Larry) Murphy of Andover, David (Robin) Worlie of Isanti, Dennis Worlie of Isanti; brother, Kenneth of Hibbing; sister, Eleanor Thorson of TX; sister, Audrey Worlie of Cambridge; and by his grandmothers, Ardis Worlie of Isanti and Doris Hazelton of Ham Lake.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Strike Funeral Home-Isanti Chapel.
Edward Korstad
Edward Korstad, 84, of Bigfork, MN. formerly of Braham, died August 3, 2001. Services were held Aug. 7 at Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He was the long-time owner and operator of Korstad’s Market in Braham.
He is survived by his son, Gregory (Connie) of Plymouth; daughter, Dr. Heidi Korstad of Bigfork; grandchildren, Nicole and LeeAnn; adopted family Sue Dullard and daughter, Kate; sister, Dorothy (George) Paulson of Rochester, MN; niece Nancy (Joe Hamm) of Claremont and nephew Miles Wagner.
Betty Kinder
Betty Mae Kinder, 80, of Cambridge, formerly of Galesburg, TX, Glenn Paul (Nancy) of Boerne, Minnesota December 19, 1903 to Joseph and Victoria (Matuszewski) Kulpinski. She grew up and attended school in Roseau. She married Anton Budnick and they lived in Minneapolis for five years before moving to Chicago where Anton worked as a woodworker for seven years and then returned to Minneapolis. Anton worked at Rock Island Railroad and Marie worked as a seamstress at Munsingwear. After retirement, they moved to Dalbo where they bought a hobby farm and lived for 17 years. Anton died in November 1978 and Marie soon moved to Lindstrom where she lived until moving to Green Acres in 1992. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, cooking, baking and playing 500.
In addition to her husband, Anton, she was preceded in death by her son, Rudolph; brothers, John and Frank and sisters, Laura and Martha.
She is survived by her children, Donald Budnick of Gordon, WI; Robert (Sandy) Budnick of New Mexico; grandchildren, Gary Budnick of Missouri; sister, Phyllis Whipple of Pukwana, S.D. and brother, Donald Larson of Webster, WI.
Stanley Walberg
Funeral services were held for Stanley R. Walberg, 80, of Braham, August 23, 2001, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Braham with Rev. Harvey Johnson officiating. Music was provided by organist Sharon Jaques and vocalists Charlotte and Wilbert Strelow. Active pallbearers were Calvin Boquist, Richard Fix, Mark and Mike Gray, Melvin, Bruce, and Kirk Walberg, Dennis O’Grady and Wendell Larson. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Occhino, Marlyn Strelow, Vern Schustad, Gordon Tomlinson, Sid Freitag, Darryl Glidden, Marvin Athey, Donald Larson and Russell Thompson. Burial was in Royalton Memorial Cemetery. Flag presentation was by Braham VFW Post 1731.
He was born December 20, 1920 in Braham to Alfred and Inga (Peterson) Walberg. He was raised on the family farm in Greeley with three sisters and 10 brothers. He entered the U.S. Navy November 11, 1943 and was discharged April 10, 1946. He then started his own painting business. On June 8, 1947 he married Evelyn M. Gray in Pine City, MN. They moved to St. Paul and Stan was employed at the Ford Plant until 1948 when they moved to Braham. Stan began work at East Central Electric until retiring in 1982. He started as a lineman and performed that job for 17 years. He then transferred to “Materials Clerk” for the remainder of his years there. In 1976 he and Evie purchased the Park Cafe, as well as the Braham Car Wash.
He was active and enjoyed many sports, including baseball, hockey, golf, trapshooting and hunting of all kinds. Stanley participated in many community activities. He was chairman of the Braham Chamber of Commerce, financial secretary and long-time member of St. Stephan’s Lutheran Church, Commander of the Rush City VFW post, Boy Scout leader and a member of the Braham Area Sportsmens Club. Together, Stanley and Evie spent 19 winters in Florida.
Stanley died August 18, 2001 at Cambridge Health Care Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Inga Walberg; son Gerald Walberg; brothers Marvin, Arnold, Harold, Lloyd, Earl, Lester, Roy and Paul; and sisters Agnes Nelson, Adlade O’Grady and Jean Larson.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn Walberg of Braham, daughters: Gloria Walberg of Port Charlotte, FL and June Walberg of Columbia Heights, MN; grandchildren Jeret Dawn) Fredlund, Jody Fredlund and Nicole Houle; great grandchildren Amanda and Carrie Fredlund and brothers, Allen and Leslie.
