Elliott Streit
Elliott Rew Streit, 25, of Isanti died January 10, 2002 at Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis of Epithiloid Sarcoma, a rare type of soft tissue cancer.
A celebration of his life was held Jan. 15 at the United Methodist Church in Cambridge with Reb. Dan Horn officiating. Angela Chesla was the pianist. Vocalists were Josh and Kara Corbett. Honorary pallbearers were Jason Polzin, Kelly Schlickenmeyer, Randy Melland, Darin Rosnow plus the present and past Isanti Fire Department members. Interment was in the Isanti Union Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Elliott Streit Fund, c/o MinnCO Credit Union, 311 Credit Union Drive, Isanti, MN 55040. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Strike Funeral Home - Isanti Chapel.
Elliott was born December 26, 1976 at St. Paul, MN to Dave and Char Streit. He was raised in Isanti and community service became a large part of his life at an early age. Growing up, Elliott was very involved in the Boy Scouts, achieving the highest level, an Eagle Scout. He grew up around the fire department and joined in January 1995, making him a third generation firefighter for the Isanti Volunteer Fire Department. Elliott was also a leader for his swim team in high school. He graduated from Cambridge-Isanti High School in 1995. Elliott attended Rasmussen Business College and graduated with a degree in business and accounting. His fellow students nominated him to give the commencement speech for the graduation ceremony.
On August 28, 1999 Elliott married Stefanie Johnson at the United Methodist Church in Cambridge. They made their home in various places until returning to Isanti in July 2001. Elliott was a compassionate man who was a caretaker and teacher. He taught competitive swimming, fire prevention and was a CPR and first aid instructor. He was also a dedicated firefighter and the Isanti firefighters became like a family to him. He was a First Responder, firefighter I and recently captain. He loved life, having fun with his family and friends, four-wheeling, camping and the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bob and Harriet Rew of Mitchell, South Dakota.
Elliott will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Stefanie; parents, Dave and Char Streit of Isanti; grandparents, Don and Joan Streit of Mora; mother-in-law, Penni Johnson of Maplewood; father-in-law, Dana (Julie) and their daughter, Sara, of Carlsbad, Arizona, formerly of the Coopers Corner area, died January 9, 2002.
A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring in Mora.
He was born at Coopers Corner, MN. March 31, 1917. He lived there for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He took over the Standard Service station at Coopers Corner following the death of his father. After the highway bought the station Bill went to work for the state of Oklahoma, Kent (Christine) Dahlman of Ham Lake, Natalie Dahlman of Seattle, Minnesota Lake, MN and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda, MN. Duane was raised in Fulda and graduated from Fulda High School in 1955. He went on to Mankato State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Math and Physics. After college, Duane moved to Minneapolis and began working in research and development for Bemis Company, Inc. During this time he served seven years in the National Guard.
On October 13, 1962 he married Judy Vining and the couple moved to Crystal, MN. Seven years later, with their two sons, they built their home in Bradford, MN. They lived there for 20 years. Duane was then transferred to Oshkosh, WI where he and Judy lived for 10 years. Duane retired from Bemis as a Sr. Product Development Engineer June 1, 1998 after 38 years of service. The couple moved to Isanti and spent time in Texas during the winter months. Duane especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Together they camped, canoed, snowmobiled, boated, fished, hunted, and golfed. He also loved helping family and friends with home construction projects. In past years he was an active leader with the Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops. He was also on the church council at Faith Lutheran Church in Isanti and All Saints Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. Most recently he was a member of Long Lake Lutheran Church.
Duane was preceded in death by his father Harold.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Isanti, sons, Steve (Cindy) of Isanti; Jeff (Vicki) of Ramsey; grandchildren: Andrea, Heidi, Jennifer, Kristin, Kayla and Joshua; mother, Dorothy Schroeder of Minnesota Business College. She married Herby Larson in 1936. Two children were born to this union. They were later divorced. While living in the Cambridge area, she was active at Cambridge Lutheran Church and also Walbo Ladies Aid. She was school board clerk of Lakeberg School District #59 and attended several state school board conventions. She was very active in Isanti County DFL politics. A highlight in her political activities was going to President Kennedy’s inauguration in January 1961. She was employed for several years at the Twin Citieis Arsenal. Then she went to work at Honeywell for many years, retiring in 1982. After retirement, she did volunteer work at North Memorial Hospital gift shop and for many years was happy to volunteer for Cancer Society’s World’s Largest Garage Sale. She enjoyed a trip to Hawaii, Europe, The Holy Land, the Scandinavian countries, and several parts of the U.S.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence (1958), Kermit (1984), Marvin (1990), Walden (1982).
She will be sadly missed by son, Dwaine (Lorna) of Walbo; daughter, Dorienne (Francis) Smith of Longville; grandchildren, Dan Smith, Rhonda (Surendran) Sivarajah, Julaine (Rick) Schindeldecker, Kate Smith, and Nicole Larson; great-grandchildren, Sonjay Sivarajah, Megan Smith-Finn, Asha Sivarajah, Chelsey and Emily Schindeldecker; sisters and brothers, Laverne (Rodney) Swanson of Cambridge, Frances Bergdahl of Robbinsdale, Clifford (Dorothy) Wallin of Spring Lake Park, Blaine (Phyllis) Wallin of Day, Joyce (Don) Tessmer of Princeton, Norma Jean (Harvey) Ziebarth of Litchfield; sisters-in-law, Violet Wallin of Bradford, Donna Wallin of Cambridge; many nieces and nephews. She was also godmother to Norma Jean Ziebarth and Deanna Olson.
Arrangements were with the Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Earl Finch
Earl Frank Finch, 80, of Cambridge died March 17, 2002 at Health East Senior Care Center in White Bear Lake, MN.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Cambridge Funeral Home - Strike Chapel with Rev. Erling Tungseth officiating. Nick Ordahl, accompanied by Mary Kay O’Neill, sang “In the Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Pallbearers were Richard Evgen, Michael Evgen, Brian Evgen, Richard Evgen II, Jason Evgen and Devon Buege II. Interment was in Cambridge Union Cemetery. Military Honors were provided by Howard McCarty American Legion Post 290 of Cambridge.
He was born November 26, 1921 at Deer Creek Township, Worth County, Iowa. Earl then enlisted in the U. S. Navy, serving his country from August 1942 to December 1945. After the service he did various jobs until 1960 when he started working for the Department of Natural Resources. He was a heavy equipment operator and built dams at the Carlos Avery Game Refuge. Earl retired from the DNR in April 1982. Earl was married to Hazel Evgen September 15, 1978. They made their home on Skogman Lake in Cambridge. He enjoyed working with wood, stamp collecting, playing cards, traveling and wintering in Iowa; by six grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Cambridge Funeral Home - Strike Chapel.
Robert Brown
Robert A. Brown, 77, of Braham and Las Vegas, Stone Creek Progressive Hospital in Las Vegas after a short battle with lung cancer.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Robert (Bob) Brown was born February 15, 1925 in Minneapolis to Wallace and Blanche Brown. He was raised and attended school in Elm park. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. On December 18, 1948 he married Shirley Beckstrom. They made their home in the Stanchfield area. He worked for K. W. McKee for 13 years hauling new Ford cars to 26 states. In 1966 he opened Bob’s Auto Sales at Stanchfield Corners and sold used cars and had a body shop. In 1985 he retired and they traveled around the United States until they decided to spend their winters in Las Vegas. He really enjoyed the Las Vegas weather and made a lot of good friends there.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Blanche Brown, brothers Bert, Donnie, and Rodney, and sister Burnetta Hoyt.
He is survived by wife, Shirley, daughters Joanne (Roger) Anderson, of Stanchfield; Linda Ladner of Rockford, Illinois; Dianne Brown of Northfield MN; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, brother, Wally of Cambridge and sister Vera Kaspar of Clovis, MN.
Ted Hoysler
Ted David Hoysler, 51, of Becker, MN. died March 23, 2002 following a brief battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27 at Williams-Kaun Funeral Home in Princeton. Friends may gather at 9 a.m.
Clarence Frost Sr.
Funeral services were held March 28, 2002 at Rock Mankie Funeral Home for Clarence A. Frost, Sr., 74, of Cambridge, with Rev. Jim Hogan and Bill Steinke officiating. Music was provided by Barb and Eben Gillespie. Pallbearers were Clarence A. Frost, Jr., John Sorget, Bruce Weisert, Keith Christensen, LeRoy Frost and Mike Elsberry. Interment was in Rice Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
He was born in Siren, WI April 29, 1927, the son of Floyd and Magnolena (Kreiger) Frost. The family moved to Brainerd, MN where Clarence grew up and attended school. In April 1946 he joined the army as an electrician and served for just over 11 months. Part of this service included four months in Germany. He was honorably discharged in April 1947 when troops were demobilized. Clarence met Joyce Larson. Together they had three children. Beginning in 1953, Clarence worked for Waldorf Paper in Saint Paul, MN. He worked there for just over 35 years, retiring in 1989. Clarence enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting. He was a good father and friend. Clarence died at Cambridge Health Care Center March 25, 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd LeRoy Frost and Magnolena Zena Kreiger Frost; brothers LeRoy Frost and Melvin Frost; wife Sherri Frost and Joan Konz.
He is survived by his companion Joyce Larson, son Clarence A. (Tammy) Frost, Jr. ; daughters Brenda (John) Sorget and Jane Frost; also survived by Kenneth (Cheri) Larson; Barbara Hamlin, and James (Sandy) Larson; grandchildren Elizabeth, Joshua and Shelby Frost, Tylor, Jordan and Emily Sorget, Erica and Joseph Frost; Jennifer and Jason Konz, Sarah Larson, Christina and Steven Virkus and Alysia and David Larson; brothers Donald, Alfred and Floyd Frost.

Lawrence Larson
Lawrence LeRoy Larson, 90, of Cambridge, died March 27, 2002 at Cambridge Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held March 30 from Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge with Chaplain Bill Steinke officiating. Wendell and Laurel Johnson, accompanied by Madge Lillemoen, sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Beyond the Sunset.” Pallbearers were Kenneth Larson, Wayne Larson, Nathan Olson, Noah, Pouliassis, Rand Carlson, and Edward Carlson. Interment was in Cambridge Lutheran Cemetery.
He was born December 11, 1911 in Springvale Township, MN to Hans and Clara (Backman) Larson. He grew up in Springvale and attended Walbo Country School. After school, he worked with his father on the home farm until 1930 when his father passed away. Lawrence continued to run the farm until 1971 when his mother passed away. He quit farming and worked as a foster grandparent at Cambridge State Hospital for over 15 years. For the past 27 years, he was a resident at the Cambridge Health Care Center. Larry enjoyed trapping, fishing on the river, and music. He was very musically inclined, teaching himself to play the accordion. He was also very handy and could fix anything.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Lillette Grapentin and Lucille Johnson.
Lawrence is survived by brother, Irving (Lillian) Larson of Brooklyn Park; brother-in-law, Art Grapentin of New Hope.
Arrangements were with the Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.
