Kermit J. Peterson
Kermit J. Peterson, 87, of Osakis, MN., formerly of Stanchfield, died January 12, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.
A memorial service was held Jan. 17 at First Presbyterian Church in Osakis, MN. with Rev. Lois Burkart officiating. Soloist was Dana Hetland who was accompanied by Lynn Olson. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery in Osakis.
He was born July 12, 1915 in Stanchfield, MN. where he attended school and grew to manhood. Kermit was the son of Victor and Charlotte Peterson. In 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He was in the 175th Field Artillery Batallion, 34th 105 MN Infantry Division for 4 1/2 years in England, Italy and North Africa. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal July 4, 1945. After the war, he lived and worked in Minneapolis. On September 7, 1946 he married Veloura Busch in Princeton. In February 1947 he was employed with the Minnesota Twins #1 fan and also enjoyed All Star Wrestling, the California; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Neoma “Tiny” Holmberg-Olsen
Tiny Holmberg-Olsen, 83, of Isanti, died January 26, 2003 in Brooklyn, Ohio, formerly of Cambridge, died January 15, 2003 at University Hospital in Cincinnati. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Benignus Catholic Church in Greenfield with Fr. Ron Cooper officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Greenfield.
She was born in Huntington, IN. March 26, 1929 to Edward and Esther M. Eckert. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hillsboro, a homemaker, and a 1947 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School in Huntington, IN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Barnes April 24, 1999; her daughter, Mary Barnes Fornwall and both parents.
She is survived by her sons, George Barnes Jr. of Frankfort, Ohio; Cheryl Haws of Hilliard, Ohio; and Rebecca Barnes of Gladstone, MI; 22 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, James Eckert and Patrick Eckert, both of Huntington, IN.
Richard Bendiske
Richard Emil Bendiske, 70, died unexpectedly at his home in rural Isanti, January 20, 2003.
A memorial service was held Jan. 25, 2003 at Long Lake Lutheran Church with Rev. Howard Skulstad officiating. Mary Falk, accompanied by Kristy Anderson, sang “How Great Thou Art” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Honorary pallbearers were Frank Collins, Bud and Verdin Hendrickson, and Tom Turek.
He was born November 4, 1932 at East Bethel to Emil and Pearl Bendiske. He lived his early years in East Bethel. When he was 18 years old he joined the Army and served during the Korean conflict. After his military service he made his home in the Bethel, St. Francis and Isanti areas. Richard was a masonry contractor for many years. He was a charter member of the Isanti Lions club. He enjoyed the family activities, hunting, fishing and watching and feeding the birds.
Richard is survived by his son, Kenneth (Linda) Bendiske of Cambridge; daughters Linda Olson (fiance Kent Tufvander) of Cambridge; Sue (Mark) Rihs of Blaine; brother Art (Judy) Bendiske of Anoka; sister, Shirley (Jerry) Oldenburg of Cambridge; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; his special friend, Lori Steinlicht of Isanti and her sons, Tab, Todd and Thomas.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Strike Funeral Home- Isanti Chapel.
Vera Peterson
Vera Evelyn Peterson, 93, of Isanti, died January 22, 2003, at Cambridge Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Jan. 25 from Spencer Brook United Methodist Church with Rev. Diane Nelson officiating. Music was provided by Cathy Walz. Organist was Meryle Sorteberg. Pallbearers were Gary, Jeff, Tim, Scott, and Jason Peterson, and Mark Halvorson. Interment will take place in the spring at Lakeside Cemetery.
She was born in South Bend, IN, February 11, 1909 to Clarence W. and Evaline (Steele) Hushower. She graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1927. While in South Bend, she worked for Wyman’s, Johnson Motors and Studebaker. On March 9, 1929 she married Marvin A. Peterson in South Bend, IN. The couple soon moved to Isanti where they made their home. Vera had many fulfilling years married to Marvin and watching the exploits of their sons, Bob and Jim, mainly in the Isanti area, but also for a short time in South Bend. In the 1930s, she worked at Oxlip Store and later in the office at the Co-op, Cambridge office. An enjoyment of weaving rugs on her loom in her earlier years, gave way to her becoming an avid genealogist, which she did for over 30 years, belonging to many societies. She later delighted in being close and seeing her grandchildren. Vera remained healthy into her later years and was also able to enjoy one more generation with great-grandchildren ranging in age from two to 19. If you knew Vera, there were at least two things you knew about her. She was a proud member of “Daughters of the American Revolution” (DAR), to which she was a member of the Anoka Chapter, and she was a Hoosier from Minnesota, her heart never left Indiana.

Vernon Stone
Vernon A. Stone, 75, of Cambridge, died January 18, 2003 at Cambridge Medical Center after a short battle with cancer.
Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Jan. 22 at North Isanti Baptist Church in Cambridge with Rev. Gary Bawden officiating. Debra Zache, accompanied by Lois Larson, was the soloist. Pallbearers were Gayle and Lyle Bostrom, Kerwin and Lois Brown, Chad and Jean Jenner, and Shawn Stone. Interment was in North Isanti Baptist Cemetery.
Vernon A. Wisconsin for several years until 1976 when they moved back to Isanti. In 1986, they moved to Cambridge. Vernon was a member of Country Roads Church in Oxford Township. Vernon and Helen have wintered in Stone and Donald Stone; sister, Beatrice Roper; and granddaughter, Holly Schwartz.
Vernon is survived by his devoted wife, Helen of Cambridge; loving daughters, Debra Zache of Watertown, WI; Cynthia Nielsen (friend Scott Hersey) of Maple Grove; Heidi Stone of Chicago, IL; sister, Elvera Bostrom of Cambridge; grandchildren, Lindsay, Kristen and Lauren Zache, Leah Nielson, Shawn Minnesota, Warren spent his entire life as a resident of Cambridge. He worked diligently from 1946 until the year of his death, as a cashier, treasurer, vice president, and on the bank’s board of directors. In March 1946, he married Leone Palmquist of North Branch. To this union were born seven children, including the youngest, Beverly Annette, who died as an infant in 1962. He enjoyed hunting in his younger days, and recalled many fishing expeditions to Ontario with close friends and family. In recent years, he spent many good times fishing with his grandchildren, either at his hideaway trailer north of Malmo in Aitkin County or at a number of other resort lake retreats. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Otelia Erickson, and sister Lorraine Setterlund.
He is survived by Leone Erickson of Cambridge; children, Patricia (George) Brelig of Fort Collins, CO, Barbara (Bruce) Hysing of Dalbo, David (Dianna) Erickson of Cambridge, Jane (Mark) Moskowitz of Ashland, OR, Judy (Lowell) Carpenter of Fergus Falls, and Dr. Robert (Gwen) Erickson of Duluth; also by 14 loving and devoted grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, George (Roselynn) Erickson of Cambridge.
Arrangements were with Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.
