SPENCER, Iowa -- Esther J. Dalager, the daughter of Jens and Selma Carlson Dahl Swanson, was the first baby born in the Spencer Hospital on Jan. 19, 1915. Her family lived in Spencer, Hector, Minn., and Buffalo Lake, Minn., where she graduated from high school in 1933.

PINE RIVER -- Marion D. Sherwood, age 96, of Pine River, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at his home. Marion was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Marion was born Dec. 19, 1907, in Pine River, the fourth child of Noble and Eliza Sherwood.

Betty R. Carlson
Betty Ruth Coates was born Feb. 10, 1933, in Little Falls, Minn., to Francis and Alma (Jasorka) Coates. She grew up and attended school in Little Falls, graduating from high school there in 1951. She married Robert Carlson Sr. in Little Falls. The couple lived in Dothan, Ala., and Brainerd, Minn. Later she married William Major. They lived in Northome, Minn., until moving to Bemidji in 1980. Betty's life was centered around her family. One of her greatest pleasures was traveling with them.

Dean A. Warner
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Dean A. Warner, 81, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Nov. 29, 2004. He was born in San Francisco, a son of the late Blake and Florence Warner. He was a graduate of Washington High School in 1941. Dean was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Force with the 49th Fighter Group. He served in the South Pacific. After the war, he returned home to Brainerd until he moved to California in 1953. In 1967 he took over ASM Manufacturing supplying airless spray equipment to the paint industry. Dean lived part time in the area from 1991 and moved here full time in 1998. He was a member of Royal Palm Yacht Club, Gulf Harbour Yacht Club. He attended McGregor Baptist Church. He was an avid boater and fisherman.

CROSSLAKE -- Janet W. Laughlin, age 83 years, died Nov. 29, 2004. Beloved wife of the late Parnell "Ted." Dear mother of Linda (Jim) Zimmer, Pat (Suzi), Mark (Gayle), Mike, Jim (Lisa), Eileen (Rob) Noblet, and Mary (Gus) Alters. Further survived by 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Memorial funeral mass will be Monday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Church, 9100 93rd Ave., North, Brooklyn Park. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 9-10 a.m. at the church. Jan was a former resident of Crosslake and was a former city clerk of Crosslake, retiring in 1983. Jan enjoyed her family, traveling, crossword puzzles and playing poker with her friends.
