Edna E. Weise, 87
DELAVAN - Services for Edna A. Weise, age 87 of Delavan, were Wednesday, Dec. 13 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Blue Earth, and burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Mrs. Weise died Thursday, Dec. 7 at United Hospital in Blue Earth. She was born September 5, 1913 in Pilot Grove Township, Faribault County, the daughter of Gustav and Anna (Dornsbauch) Martin. The family moved to Litchfield and later back to Blue Earth. She attended school in both systems. On August 25, 1937 she married Karl Weise at Blue Earth. They farmed in Prescott Township until moving to Delavan in 1961. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid and Extension Group. Her hobbies included bowling, fishing, and Senior Citizens Card Club in Delavan. Survivors include her husband, Karl of Delavan; two sons: Dwight of Blue Earth, Robert and his wife Peggy of Nevis; four daughters, Deanne Wallace and her husband Lloyd of Delavan, Faye Peterson and her husband Keith of Winnebago, Donna Jans and her husband Robert of Morrayville, Ga., Carol Smith and her husband Sam of Walker; 26 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Erwin Martin and his wife Mertice of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Lester Martin and his wife Myrtle, Elmre Martin and his wife Eva, all of Blue Earth; two sisters, Adelia Schramm of Belle Plaine, El Vera Kabe and her husband Harold of Blue Earth. She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren, one daughter-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.

Kathleen C. Sohn, 89
BLUE EARTH - Services for Kathleen Caroline Sohn, age 89 of Blue Earth, were Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery at Blue Earth. Mrs. Sohn died Thursday, Dec. 7 at the United Hospital in Blue Earth. Patton Funeral Home of Blue Earth was in charge of the arrangements. Kathleen was born June 4, 1911 in Pilot Grove Township, Faribault County, the daughter of Carl and Katie (Halligan) Cherland. She graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1928 and Normal Teacher Training at Blue Earth. Mr. Sohn preceded her in death in 1952. She resumed college classes and graduated from Mankato State, with a bachelor of science degree, in upper elementary education. She taught sixth grade for 21 years in Blue Earth Public Schools until retiring in 1976. She was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, taught Sunday school for 25 years, co-chaired the first boutique at Trinity, and was a member of Elizabeth Circle. She had also served as a 4-H leader, extension leader, PTA secretary and was a member of Mitchell Chatauqua and Faribault County Historical Society. Survivors include three sons: Duane and his wife Janice of Blue Earth, Darrell and his wife Dorothy of Plymouth, David and his wife Pricilla of Long Lake; one daughter, Diane Hoffstedt and her husband Carl of Golden Valley; thirteen grandchildren; one sister, Alvina Kallestad of Park Rapids; one brother, Richard Cherland of Banning, Cal. She was also preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, and two grandchildren.

WINNEBAGO - Private family services for Regina Rose Rockers, stillborn infant daughter of Mark and Chris (Olsen) Rockers of Winnebago, were Monday, Dec. 11. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago. Regina died Thursday, Dec. 7 at the Fairmont Community Hospital. Spencer-Owen Funeral Home of Winnebago was in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her parents, Mark and Chris of Winnebago, formerly of Austin; two brothers: Brian and Matthew; three sisters: Beth, Katie, and Marianna, all at home. paternal grandparents, Francis and Carole Rockers of Austin; maternal grandparents, Richard H. and Helen Olsen of McAllen, Tx., formerly of Austin.

Kenneth Ristau, 80
ELMORE - Kenneth Ristau, age 80 of Elmore, died Saturday, Dec. 9 at United Hospital in Blue Earth. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 15 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Karl Hollibaugh officiating. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Elmore. He was born January 15, 1920 at Elmore, the son of Ernest and Clara (Peter) Ristau. He was raised and educated in Elmore where he attended the St. John's Parochial School in the country near Elmore. He was married to Maxine T. Frankum on June 27 in Winnebago. Kenneth lived and farmed at rural Elmore all his life. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Maxine Ristau of Elmore; sons: Shurrdean and wife Judy Ristau of Sleepy Eye, Arniss and wife Susan Ristau of Elmore, Richard and wife Barbara Ristau of Elmore; daughters: Sharon and husband Duane Wrightson of Craig, Colo., Marlys Dotseth of Buffalo Center, Iowa; brother, Duane and Marie Ristau of New Ulm; sisters: Evelyn and husband Ivan Sansgard of Elmore, Dorothy and husband Donald Loge of Hector, Shirley and husband Archie Ihle of Elmore; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Steven and one son-in-law, Ervin Dotseth.

BLUE EARTH - Delores A. More, age 69 of Blue Earth, died Thursday, Dec. 7 at her home. Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 11 at First Presbyterian Church of Blue Earth with Pastor Clark Cary of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. She was born May 27, 1931 at rural Blue Earth, the daughter of Selmer M. and Florence L. (Fenske) Jacobson. Delores was raised and educated in Bricelyn where she was a 1949 graduate of Bricelyn High School. She was married to Kenneth R. More on December 11, 1949 in Bricelyn. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Blue Earth where they owned their business and resided in the same location all their adult lives. The couple owned and operated the More Farm Service for many years, which eventually became Billiards & More. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was active in the church choir and was routinely a soloist for weddings and funeral services. She was also a member of the Miriam Circle at the church. Delores is survived by her husband Kenneth More of Blue Earth; three sons: Charles and wife Carol More of Blue Earth, David and wife Shauna More of Winnebago, Paul and wife Susan More of Blue Earth; daughter, Mary and husband Bob Bell of Blue Earth; two brothers, Donovan and wife Dolores Jacobson of Mahtomedi, Robert and wife LaDonna Jacobson of St. Louis Park; sister, Janice Jacobson of Plymouth and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Fred Krupp, 87
ELMORE - Fred Krupp, age 87 of Elmore, died Saturday, Dec. 9 at his home under the care of United Hands Hospice. Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elmore, with Pastor Karl Hollibaugh officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery in Elmore. Fred was born August 27, 1913 at the farm home near Elmore, the son of Albert G. and Elsie (Ristau) Krupp. He attended public, country schools where he was a 1932 graduate of Elmore High School. He farmed with his father at the home place. He was married to Leona Goltz on June 16, 1940 at Posen Township in Wood Lake, Minn. at the Missouri Synod St. Luke's Lutheran Church, by Pastor W.H. Boumann. Frederick continued farming with his parents until 1942 when they moved to their new house in Elmore. Frederick was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod in Elmore. He was a very active worker for the Lord, serving in many capacities: as President of the church board and Lutheran Laymen at the district and zone levels. He was chairman of the congregation, trustees, elders and of the building committee when the church was built and dedicated in 1961. He was elected and traveled to St. Louis, Missouri representing the zone for the Lutheran Laymens League. He served as custodian for the church from 1982 until the present. He was also on the county and township school boards, was director and on the board of First National Bank in Elmore from 1956 to 1986, delivered Meals on Wheels for many years and was on the Student Aid Commission for Concordia College in St. Paul for 10 years. He is survived by his wife Leona Krupp of Elmore; son, Marlin and wife Donna Krupp of Elmore; daughters: Janae and husband Carrol Clausen of Albert Lea, Nadine and husband Richard Engel of Richton Park, Ill.; two sisters: Leilah Franke of Truman, Argiene and husband Selmer Gjerde of Helix, Ore.; four granddaughters, four grandsons and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Victor Franke.

Marcella C. Hansen, 73
ARMSTRONG, IA - Marcella C. Hansen, age 73 of Armstrong, Iowa, died Dec. 7 at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 11 at the United Methodist Church in Armstrong. Burial was in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Marcella was born May 22, 1927 in Hebron Township in Kossuth County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Morris Ormiston Vandenburgh and Caroline Ida Kruger. She received her education in the Blue Earth Schools and graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1944. In 1945 she moved to Armstong and was employed at the telephone company. On August 29, 1950 she was united in marriage to George W. Hansen at the United Methodist Church in Estherville, Iowa. After her marriage, Marcella assisted in caring for family members and friends in the Armstrong area. Mrs. Hansen passed away on December 7, 1988. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Armstrong, taught Sunday School and assisted with Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed crafts. She is survived by a son, Lynn Hansen of Armstrong; three sisters: Irene Schoendaller and husband Robert of Colby, Kan., Genevieve Rohlen of Englewood, Colo., Marjean Werner and husband Everett of Delavan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband George, infant daughter Karole, and her parents.

Agnes Habeck, 92
WASECA - Agnes Habeck, age 92 of Waseca, formerly of Waldorf, died Friday, Dec. 8 at Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home in Waseca. Born in Jo Davies Township, Faribault County, on September 21, 1908, she was the daughter of Nicholas and Emilie (Ehrhardt) Bleess. She graduated from Blue Earth High School and attended normal training school in Blue Earth. Following her schooling she taught in rural schools for 15 years. She married Bernhardt "Ben" Habeck on June 21, 1944 at St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth. She had worked as a clerk at Deml's Grocery in Waldorf for several years. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waldorf and the Rosary Society. She was also a member of the CDA Court Joan of Arc in Blue Earth and the VFW Auxiliary Post 1778 in Wells. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and family. She is survived by one son, Bill and his wife Sue Habeck of Plaistow, New Hampshire; two daughters: Joan and husband Roger Ignaszewski of Waseca, and Marilyn and her husband Tom Brandel of Fairfax; six grandchildren: Michelle Habeck, Christopher Habeck, Nikole and husband Ken Schaffer, Garrett Ignaszewski, Matt Brandel, and Leana Brandel, and one great-grandchild, Jacob Schaffer. She is also survived by one sister, Dorthea Hadlick of Delavan and one sister-in-law, Helen Bleess of Blue Earth. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1989, one granddaughter, Amanda Brandel, eight brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 12 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waldorf with Rev. Thien Nguyen officiating. Burial followed at St. Joseph's Community Cemetery in Waldorf. Her grandchildren were the casket bearers.

Kenneth R. Armstrong, 68
BLUE EARTH - Kenneth R. Armstrong, age 68 of Blue Earth, died Thursday, Dec. 7 at his home. Following cremation, memorial services were held Monday, Dec. 11 at Crescent Apartments Senior Dining Center in Blue Earth. Pastor Clark Cary of Trinity Lutheran Church officiated. Patton Funeral Home handled the arrangements. He was born September 12, 1932 at Frost, the son of Raymond and Carrie (Johnson) Armstrong. He was raised and educated in Elmore where he was a 1950 graduate of Elmore High School. He later attended technical school in Minneapolis specializing in electronics. He married Arlene E. Kietzer on October 9, 1954 in Willow Creek, Minn. She preceded him in death in 1998. He lived in many parts of the country and in many communities in Minnesota. He worked at many different jobs, most in the area of electronics and electric repair. Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Vicki and husband Steve Shirley of Omaha, Neb.; sister, Ramona and husband Elmre Dahms of Winnebago; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1998 and one brother, Wayne Armstrong.

Lillian M. Roberts, 96
WORTHINGTON - Lillian Marie Roberts, age 96, was born on August 29, 1904 in Worthington. She was the daughter of Peter and Sigrid Lundgren Swanson. Lillian attended school in Worthington. She worked at Silverberg's Department Store for a number of years. Lillian married Earl Roberts on April 14, 1926 in Worthington. She helped her father in his Dray Line Office. Lillian then worked for the school lunch program at Central Elementary School and also at Lakehaven Nursing Home for a time. She was a member of the Ladies Aid at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington. Lillian was a wonderful cook and enjoyed canning and gardening. She loved her family and Christmas. Lillian died on Sunday, Dec. 17 at the South Shore Center in Worthington. Lillian is survived by 12 children: Audrey and husband Bob Duffy of Worthington, James and wife Joyce Roberts of Sioux Falls, S.D., Donna Hedman of New Richland, Janice and husband Loren Baker of Blue Earth, Tom and Arlene Roberts of Gillette, Wyom., Harold Roberts of Cedar Rapids, Ia., Nancy and husband Don Pakko of White Bear lake, Jerry and wife Joyce Roberts of Medford, Marilyn and husband Ron Weber of North Mankato, JoAnn and husband Gary Krengel of Mapleton, Sylvia and husband Dave Gardner of North Olmstead, Ohio, and Janet Roberts of Le Sueur; 29 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and one sister, Ann Leary Chepa of Worthington. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one sister, Gertrude Burns. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 21 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington with Rev. Richard Shaffer officiating. Casket bearers were Bob Duffy, Ronald Weber, Loren Baker, Don Pakko, David Gardner, and Gary Krengel. Lillian's grandchildren served as honorary bearers. Burial was in the Worthington Cemetery.

Lyle A. Larson, 92
ALBERT LEA - Funeral services for Lyle A. Larson, age 92 of Albert Lea, were Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Reverend Douglas Wahlberg officiated. Interment was at Graceland Cemetery. Lyle died Wednesday, Dec. 20 at St. John's Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. Lyle was born October 30, 1908 to Louis C. and Mary (Peterson) Larson. On February 20, 1935 he was united in marriage to Lillian Stephensen at Lerdal, Minn. Lyle farmed in the Frost area until 1956 at which time he and Lillian moved into Frost where he was employed at the REA as a lineman until 1970 when they moved to Albert Lea. He worked part time for the City of Albert Lea for the park department. Lyle was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He especially enjoyed gardening and yard work. Survivors include children: Beverly Field and her husband Robert of Albert Lea, Barbara Larson of Albert Lea, and Gary Larson and his wife Alice of Foster City, Cal.; grandchildren: Douglas Field and his wife Jan of New Brighton, Julianne Cords and her husband Jeff of Rochester, Erin Larson and Christopher Larson, both of Foster City, Cal.; great-grandchildren: Brady Field of New Brighton, Brittany Cords and Shane Cords, both of Rochester; brother and sister-in-law Ervin Larson and wife Fern of Blue Earth; sister, Marion McCabe of Waterloo, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Olav and Edith Haugen of Amboy, Donald and Phyllis Stehpensen of Silver Bay, and Mabel Larson of Hayward; many nieces and nephews. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lillian in 1991, brother Leonard, mother-in-law and father-in-law Nels and Marie Stephensen, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Niels and Esther Simonsen. Lyle will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends. Blessed be his memory.

MINNESOTA LAKE - Iris A. Herbers, age 68 of Minnesota Lake, died on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea. Memorial services were Monday, Dec. 18 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Minnesota Lake. Father John Wilmot officiated. Internment was at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Minnesota Lake. Iris was born Easter Sunday, March 27, 1932 in Kossuth County, near Algona, Iowa. She was the daughter of Reinhard and Elma (Behnke) Lieb. She attended Trinity Lutheran Parochial School in Algona, Iowa. She graduated from Algona Public High School in 1950. Iris was employed as a bookkeeper by Upper Des Moines Publishing Company in Algona, a weekly county newspaper. She married Harlan G. Herbers on December 22, 1954 in Algona. After their marriage, the couple moved to Minnesota in 1955. Iris was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Minnesota Lake and was involved in the church circle and choir. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was involved in many local activities, including Cub Scouting and was secretary of the Minnesota Lake Community Chest for many years. She was a volunteer driver for social services. Iris was an avid reader and enjoyed playing Bridge. She enjoyed her children and was a devoted grandmother. She is survived by two daughters: Holly and her husband Richard Postel of New Ulm, Diane and her husband David Washington of Yorba Linda, Cal.; four sons: Terry and his wife Patricia Herbers of Eyota, Brian and his wife Kathy Herbers of Robbinsdale, Jim and his wife Mary Herbers of Rochester, Wade and his wife Melissa Herbers of Minnesota Lake; eight grandchildren: Michael, Lisa, Tommy, Katie, Maggie, Jacob, Laura and Brett Herbers; one brother, Dennis and his wife Penny Lieb of Albert Lea; one sister, June Adele Lieb of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1992 and two nieces: Michelle Leverson and Carol Herbers, and one nephew, Dan Thode, may they rest in peace. Carma M. Hagen, 86
WOODBURY - Carma H. Hagen, age 86, formerly of Wells, died on Thursday, Dec. 14 at Woodbury Health Care Center in Woodbury from compilations of Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 18 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. Reverend Paul Baker officiated. Interment was at the Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills, Iowa. Carma was born April 19, 1914 in Worth County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Minda (Holstad) Tenold. She grew up in northern Iowa, graduating from Kensett High School. She married Robert A. Hagen on May 27, 1950 in Red Wing. She worked as a receptionist at the Wells Hospital for many years, and also worked at Banquet Foods and Del Monte. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells and the WELCA. She volunteered at the church office, taught Sunday School and Bible School. She enjoyed playing cards and bridge. Carma is survived by one daughter, Cheryl and her husband Wayne Thisius of Cottage Grove; two grandchildren: Aimee and Shawn Thisius of Cottage Grove; one brother, Orland Tenold of Manly, Iowa; five sisters-in-law: Grace Tenold of Kensett, Ia., Geraldine Tenold of West Liberty, Ia., Lois Tenold of Albert Lea, Minn., Edna Overturf of Mason City, Ia., Adene Hagen of Garner, Ia.; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1977; son, Allen Robert Hagen in 1952; three brothers: Vern, Hardine and Dean; and one sister, Mildred Anderson.

Betty L. Doolittle, 74
BLUE EARTH - Services for Betty L. Doolittle, age 74 of Blue Earth, formerly of Winnebago, were Thursday, Dec. 21 at Spencer-Owen Funeral Home in Winnebago. Burial was at Rosehill Cemetery in Winnebago. Mrs. Doolittle died Sunday, Dec. 17 at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth. She was born Aug. 15, 1926 in Hutsonville, Ill., the daughter of William H. and Flora M. (Guyer) Hill. She grew up in Kansas, Ill. and graduated from Kansas Community High School. She then graduated from beautician school in Racine, Wis. On May 15, 1946 she married Charles Martin at Morganfield, Ken. They were divorced in 1963. On June 9, 1967 she married Raymond Doolittle at Burlington, Wis. They moved to Winnebago and were divorced in 1972. She owned and operated Betty's Beauty Shop in Winnebago until retiring in 1995. She moved to Blue Earth in 1996 and had been a resident of St. Luke's since Oct. of 2000. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included fishing, crocheting and watching TV. Survivors include three daughters: Margaret Colleen Martin of Seattle, Wash., Emma Janelle Celander and her husband Venner, Marty Urban and her husband Don, all of Blue Earth; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald Hill of Hebron, Ill.; three sisters: Virginia Parker of Joliet, Ill., Emma June Stutesman and her husband Don of Crystal Lake, Ill, Loretta Montanye and her husband Ronald of Batavia, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter, one sister, and on brother-in-law.

Genevieve "Genny" Rose, 94
Blue Earth - Genevieve "Genny" Rose, age 94, of Blue Earth, died Wednesday, December 27, at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 2:30 p.m, at First United Methodist Church in Blue Earth, with Pastor Rod Stemme and Pastor Gary Terrio, officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery, Herrin, Illinois on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Visitation time was from 1 p.m. to service time at the church on Saturday. Patton Funeral Home of Blue Earth handled the arrangements. Genny was born January 24, 1906, in Springerton, Illinois, the daughter of Paul E. and Lou Annie (Martin) Nesler. She was raised in Southern, Illinois where she attended schools in Herrin, IL. She was married to Kenneth Rose on July 8, 1925 in Herrin, IL. The couple moved to Blue Earth in 1934 where they owned the Blue Earth Cleaners on Main Street for 40 years. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Blue Earth and was active in the church circle and garden club in the early years. She is also a former member of the Eastern Star Ruth Chapter #102 of Blue Earth, and she was one of the original Camp Fire Girls in the United States. They moved to Florida following their retirement in 1974 and Kenneth died in 1983. Genny moved back to Herrin for a few years and eventually returned to Blue Earth in the early 1990's. Genny is survived by her daughter, Joyce A. Sparks of Blue Earth, two granddaughters, one grandson, six great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister - Helen Sullenger, six brothers: Dan, "Chick", Jim, John "Sollie", Howard and George Nesler and a son-in-law: Keith Sparks.

Geraldine "Gerri" Naumann, 73
Elmore - Geraldine "Gerri" Naumann, age 73, of Elmore was born into eternal life on Christmas Day, December 25, 2000, at home with her family by her side. A 26-year survivor of breast cancer, she had recently become ill once again. Her recent battle was short, but her spirit and her love of life remained. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 29 at 2 p.m., at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore, with Rev. Jim Peterson, officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Elmore. Visitation time was from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore. Patton Funeral Homes of Blue Earth and Elmore handled the arrangements. Gerri Parks was born March 12, 1927, to Clay B. and Rachel (Ingram) Parks at Gadsden, Alabama. The fourth oldest of eight children, she was raised in northern Alabama near Anniston. She moved to Elmore in 1947 where she became a transplanted Southern belle. There she fell in love with her husband Eddie and moved to the family "plantation" located in northern Kossuth County, Iowa - a typical farm with a typical farmhouse that soon became a home she filled with love. They celebrated 51 years of marriage on December 3, 2000. Out of this union came five children: Jeff, Kevin, Kenny, Karla, and LeAnn. Gerri found her pride in her five children and her nine grandchildren. She was an excellent example of what it means to be a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Simply, she will be missed. During her life, Gerri had many loves: She loved red - red carpet, red shoes, red curtains, red jackets, even a bright red house. She loved ceramics, painting and drybrushing animals and angels, ornaments and statues. She loved crafts, buying them, painting them, and sharing them. She loved to shop, many days "shopping till she dropped" until she had found just the right earrings, just the right shoes, and just the right present or card for someone special she loved. She loved to cook: angel biscuits, rhubarb pies, apple cakes, roasts, and homemade bread. She loved to travel throughout the United States and in Europe. And she loved her friends - her new friends in Texas where she had spent several winters, her birthday club, her crafting partners at Shiloh Lutheran Church where she had long been a member, and of course, her shopping buddies. Gerri is survived by her husband, Edwin Naumann of Elmore; her five children and their families: Jeffrey (& wife Susan) Naumann of Fairmont; Kevin (& wife Cindy) Naumann of Elmore and their children, Nicole of St. Louis Park and Philip (& wife Julie) and their daughter Ashley of Wells; Kenneth (& wife Gail) Naumann of Lakota, IA and their children, Nicholas Campbell of Lakota, IA, and Chris Campbell of Mason City, IA; Karla (& husband Monty) Larson of Waupaca, WI and their children, Lindsey, Mitchell and Hayley; and LeAnn Mechler of North Mankato and her children, Michael and Alex. Also surviving are three sisters: Agnes Cochran of Gainesville, GA, Alene (& husband Edward) Smith of Anniston, AL, and Ollie Otte of Burnsville; two brothers: Gerald "Bub" Parks (& friend Sharon) of Oxford, AL and Charles (& wife Paulette) Parks of Anniston, AL; and one sister-in-law, Debbie Parks of Anniston, AL. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law: Derald (& wife Bonnie) Naumann, Donald (& wife Connie) Naumann and a sister-in-law, Jo Ann Schaumburg and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister - Edna King, brother - Jimmy Parks, mother and father in-law: Ira and Myrtle Naumann, brothers-in-law: J.B. Cochran, Bob Smith, Marvin Otte and Marvin Schaumburg. Memorial donations are suggested to United Hands Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Marlene M. Lubitz, 66
Delavan - Marlene M. Lubitz, age 66, of Delavan, formerly of Blue Earth, died Tuesday, December 26 at Parker Oaks in Winnebago. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 30 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth. Marlene was born January 29, 1934 in Madison, S.D., the daughter of Melvin J. and Mathilda A. (Graue) Alfson. She attended schools in Frost and Blue Earth. She was married to Edward Leland May 2, 1953. She worked seasonally for Green Giant and was custodian of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years before owning and operating the Montgomery Wards store in Blue Earth during the 1970's and mid 1980's. Her husband died September 22, 1978 and she was later married to Howard J. Lubitz on August 15, 1981 in Blue Earth. She had worked in the dietary department at St. Lukes Lutheran Care Center until her retirement in the mid 1990's. She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Women's Group. She was also a member of the Blue Earth VFW Auxiliary, Honor Guard and the Delavan Legion Auxiliary. Marlene is survived by her husband, Howard J. Lubitz of Delavan; son, Andy and wife Connie Leland of Blue Earth; step-son Jim Lubitz of Spring Valley; step-son John and wife Paula Lubitz of Colorado Springs, Co.; step-daughter Peggy and husband Dennis Braunshausen of Waseca; step-daughter Katie and Husband Rick Toppin of Plymouth; brother Kermit Alfson of Blue Earth; brother Elwood and wife Beverly Alfson of Winnebago; sister Irene and husband Donald Boettcher of Blue Earth; step-brother-in-law Tom and wife Margaret Lubitz of Delavan; step-brother-in-law Donald and wife Shirley Lubitz of Columbia, S.C.; sister-in-law Donna Alfson of New Ulm; step-sister-in-law Elaine Lubitz of Albert Lea, step-sister-in-law Monica Lubitz of Richfield; 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, infant son, Bernie, two brothers and a sister.

Mildred G. Legried, 85
Frost - Mildred G. Legried, age 85 of Frost, died Wednesday, December 27 at United Hospital in Blue Earth. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Rome Township. Visitation will be held at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, January 1, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Internment will be at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Rome Township. Mildred was born January 1, 1915 in Bricelyn to Edgar and Minnie (Johnson) Salley. She received her education and graduated from Bricelyn High School in 1932. Mildred was united in marriage to Orville Legried on January 17, 1933, in Blue Earth. After their marriage the couple lived on the family farm near Frost. She was a very active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, having served as a Sunday School teacher, church officer, WELCA officer and circle member. Besides being a homemaker, Mildred loved to be outdoors and was very proud of her garden, flowers and lawn mowing on the farm. Mildred is survived by her husband of 67 years, Orville Legried of Frost; Daughter Joyce and her husband Del Armon of Lakota, Ia.; sons Roger Legried of Frost, and Dennis and his wife Sheila Legried of Frost; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers Clifford and his wife Jean of Arlington, Va., and Warren and his wife Zelene of Derby Kan.; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, one brother, one brother-in-law, one daughter-in-law and a granddaughter.

Alfred F. Hurlburt, 86
Swea City, IA - Alfred A. Hurlburt, age 86 of Swea City, IA, died December 23 at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, IA. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Swea City. Burial followed at the Harrison Township Cemetery in Swea City. Alfred, the son of Fred and Ida (Herke) Hurlburt, was born August 14, 1914 in Osgood, IA. He received his education in the country schools and graduated from Emmetsburg, Iowa High School. Alfred attended Business College in Grand Island, Nebraska. After completing business college, Alfred worked as a bookkeeper for a hotel in Alliance, Nebraska. On June 6, 1937, Alfred was united in marriage to Marjorie Tucker in Harrisburg, Nebraska. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved back to Palo Alto County and Alfred operated gas stations in Graettinger and Emmetsburg, Iowa. In 1941, the family moved to a farm near Seneca, IA, and later Wallingford, IA, and then Elmore, where Alfred farmed until 1965. He then managed the fertilizer plant in Ledyard, IA. They then owned and managed a motel in Eagle Grove, IA, for seven years until 1985. They moved to Humboldt, IA, for a short time before moving to Swea City, where they have lived since. Alfred enjoyed flower gardening, hunting, fishing and reading in his spare time. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Swea City and was a lay speaker and taught Sunday School throughout the years at various churches. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Hurlburt of Swea City, IA; one son, James Francis Hurlburt and wife Marie of Apple Valley; three daughters: Nancy Haas and husband Eldon of Elmore, Joyce Kramer and husband Rev. Ron of Des Moines, IA, and Kathy Hurlburt of Swea City, IA; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Maynard and Mancil.

Verdell L. Fair, 78
Blue Earth - Verdell L. Fair, age 78, of Blue Earth, died suddenly Thursday, December 21, at Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, with Pastors Stephen Bohling and Clark Cary officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. Visitation time was from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Patton Funeral Home of Blue Earth. She was born September 13, 1922, at Ringsted, Iowa, the daughter of Merean S. and Bertha (Hansen) Larsen. She grew up in the Ringsted and Armstrong, Iowa areas where she attended Armstrong High School. She moved to Blue Earth in 1940 where she met and was later married to Ivan V. Fair on September 28, 1941 in Blue Earth. The couple returned to rural Ringsted, Iowa to farm on the family farm until returning to Blue Earth in 1949. The couple farmed at rural Blue Earth until their retirement in 1976, when they moved into the city of Blue Earth. Verdell was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth where she was active in the Ladies Aide and Church Circle. She had also been active in 4-H and as a fundraiser for the March of Dimes. She is survived by her son, David L. Fair (& wife Mary) of Clearwater and an only grandson currently serving in the Army Airborne in Egypt, and a daughter, Diane Fair Hunter (& husband Doug) of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother (Hannah), husband in 1984, sisters - Mildred Flier and Bertha Edwards, brother - Howard Larsen and an infant brother.

Kermit Emery Cary, 86
Blue Earth - Kermit Emery Cary was born July 21, 1914 in rural Clay County to Ira Merton Cary and Lillie Jane (Smith) Cary. He was the 4th of seven sons born in the family. His childhood and teen years were lived on a farm between Ulen and Flom, MN. He attended Country School and completed the 8th grade. After moving to Twin Valley he worked at different jobs before starting employment with the Standard Oil Company. He worked for Standard Oil as a Bulk Agent from 1943 until he retired in 1975. He also drove school bus for many years in Twin Valley. Kermit married Eldora Marguerite Swenson on November 11, 1939 and they resided their entire married life in Twin Valley. Four children were born to their marriage - Bruce, Clark, Reeves and Nancy. Eldora died in July of 1991 and in July of 1997 Kermit moved to Blue Earth where he resided at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center. Kermit had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley since 1939 where he had served as a Trustee and as President of the Congregation. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Charter member of the Twin Valley Lion's Club and was presented with Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He was a member of the Sons of Norway, The County Historical Society, Toastmasters and numerous other organizations. He had served the community of Twin Valley in a variety of ways - as a member of the Twin Valley School Board, the Board of Directors for the Lutheran Memorial Homes, the City Council and as Mayor of Twin Valley for several terms. Kermit had struggled with Parkinson's Disease for several years and died Thursday, December 21, at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth. He was 86 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his children: Bruce Cary and wife Ona of Brooklyn Park, Pastor Clark Cary and wife Lois of Blue Earth, Reeves Cary and wife Sandi of Minneapolis, and Nancy Close and husband Jack of Waterloo (Omaha), Nebraska. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two brothers: Russel Cary and wife Frances of Valley City, ND, and Harold Cary and wife Eileen of Lake Park; five sisters-in-law: Nellie Cary and Irene Cary of Detroit Lakes, Eleanor Cary of Mahnomen, Eunice Cary of Moorhead, and Beverly Swenson of Fargo, ND; numerous nephews and nieces and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Eldora; and brothers: Leslie, Cecil, Lowell, and Donald. Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley on Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. A memorial service was held at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center, 1219 South Ramsey, in Blue Earth on Friday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. in the West Parlor.

Heiko Bosma, 93
Buffalo Center, IA - Heiko Bosma died on Saturday, December 23 at his home in Buffalo Center at the age of 93. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center, with Rev. David Langer officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery of Buffalo Center. Heiko, son of Thomas and Florence (Adams) Bosma, was born February 19, 1907 in Buffalo Center. He received his education at country schools near Buffalo Center. Heiko's first wife, Elsie Jansen, died in February of 1933. On February 6, 1940, he was united in marriage to Catherine Johns at Chapin, Iowa. They worked and lived in the Ackley, Iowa area for a time before moving to Buffalo Center in 1943 to start farming. They resided on a farm south of Buffalo Center for many years before moving into town in their retirement years. Heiko was a member of the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center. He loved to visit with family and friends. He was very interesting and enjoyable to listen to when he shared his memories of the past. He is survived by his son, Jenifer and his wife, Mary Ann of Blue Earth; three grandchildren: Scott and his wife Nancy Bosma of Newton; Lorrie Zierke of Faribault; Brian and his wife, Linnae Bosma of Brooklyn Park; six great grandchildren; four sisters: Annabel Oswald of Frost; Lillian (Mrs. Paul) Mastin of Buffalo Center; Grace (Mrs. Harvey) Hassebroek of Buffalo Center and Bessie Weaver of Forest City; a brother, Jim and Norma Bosma of Buffalo Center; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, three sisters: Esther Mastin, Irene Burger, Martha Horton and five brothers: Tommy, Louie, Ed, Clarence, and Bert.

Ruth L. Beckman, 74
Bricelyn - Ruth L. Beckman, age 74 of Bricelyn, died Friday, December 22 at her home in Bricelyn, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27 at the Bricelyn Lutheran Church with Reverend Edward Nieman officiating. Interment was at the Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery in Seely Township. Ruth was born on August 5, 1926 in Rake, Iowa to Robert and Alma (Donhough) Kissel. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa. She graduated from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. Together she and her husband owned and operated Kenny's Recreation Center in Kiester for many years until moving to Bricelyn in 1964. She was a former parish secretary at the Bricelyn Lutheran Church for six years. She worked with her husband as a bookkeeper for Rendall Oil Company until 1987 when they sold their business due to his ill health. She was a loving caretaker of her first husband until his death in January of 1995. Ruth married Harold Beckman on May 3, 1996. They enjoyed spending the winters in Florida. Ruth enjoyed traveling, sewing and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Harold Beckman of Bricelyn; one son, Tim and wife Terri Rendall of Chanhassen; two daughters, Rhonda and husband Ray Korn of Wells, Julie and husband David Flo of Bricelyn; five grandchildren: Jennifer and Anna Flo, Adam Korn, Sara and Ryan Rendall; three stepsons: Steven and wife Linda Beckman of Navarre, FL, Tracy and wife Janel Beckman of St. Paul, and Troy and wife Anita Beckman of Plymouth; one stepdaughter, Sandra and husband Bruce Lorenz of Wells; 12 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren; five sisters: Lorraine Doden of Mason City, IA, Marion and husband Russel Reck of Lake Placid, FL, Janet and husband Gene Ensimger of Sebring, FL, Elsie and husband Robert Locke of Aurora, IL, Avis and husband Peter Steinbeck of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Kenneth, and two brothers.

Sherry Dee (Hart - Thompson) Zabel, 54
Wells - Sherry Dee (Hart - Thompson) Zabel, age 54 of Wells died on Sunday, December 31, 2000, at her home in rural Wells following a short battle with cancer. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 4, 2001 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. Visitation was also at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells from 5:30 to 9:00 PM. A children's service was held on Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at 4:30 PM and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. The burial followed at Rosehill Cemetery in Wells. Rev. Meg Sander and Rev. Paul Baker officiated the service. Sherry was born on April 21, 1946 in Millbank, SD to Gerhard "Red" and Leona Redman. Sherry was a graduate of Arlington High School and graduated from Dakota Weselyn University in 1968. She married Steve Hart in August of 1974; Robert Thompson in August 1996 and Harold Zabel in July of 1999. Sherry taught Fifth grade for one year at St. Casimir Catholic School and Kindergarten in Wells for 30 years. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she had served on the council, was Past President of the congregation, Sr. Choir, Call Committee, Joy Circle and played piano for the Preschool Choir. Sherry was also a member of the U.S.C. Education Assc., MN Education Assc., Nat'l Education, Assc., Wells American Legion Auxiliary and various bridge clubs. She was a former member of the Wells Golf Club. She enjoyed traveling and shopping. Sherry is survived by Husband, Harold Zabel of Wells; two sons: Dan (Ami) Hart of Lino Lakes, MN, Matt (Jonelle) Hart of Wells; one granddaughter: Madalyn Hart of Wells; father and step-mother: G.A. "Red" and wife Vi Redman of Arlington, SD; mother-in-law: Inga Thompson of Freeborn, MN; one sister: Sandra (Kenny) Sunderland of Waverly, MN; two step-daughters: Julie (Steve) Blaske of Shoreview, MN, Wanda (Rick) Heesch of New Effington, SD; one step-son: Greg Zabel and Fiance' Summer Stores of Moorhead, MN; eight step-grandchildren; special friend: Lynne Doble of Wells and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, friends, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Sherry was preceded in death by mother, Leona Redman, husbands Steve Hart and Robert Thompson and nephew: Mike Sunderland.

Karen Schulz, 61
Wells - Karen Schulz, age 61, of Wells died on Sunday, December 31, 2000, at her home in Wells. Funeral Services were at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 6, 2001, at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells with Father Brian O'Rourke officiating. Visitation was at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, January 5, 2001 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial was held at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery in Wells. Karen was born on January 31, 1939 in Barbar Township, Faribault County, MN to William and Hazel (Egeness) O'Rourke. Karen graduated from Wells High School in 1957 and from Mankato State University in 1971. She married Bruce Schulz on March 22, 1958, in Easton, MN. She worked as a librarian for 25 years in Faribault County. She was a life long resident of the Wells/Easton area. Karen was involved in the Wells Fire Department Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing Bridge, Cribbage, working crossword puzzles, loved traveling, camping and fishing. Karen also enjoyed watching football and being with her grandchildren. Karen is survived by 3 sons: Jon (Denise) Schulz of Martin, SD, Ken (Jolene) Schulz of St. Clair, MN, Jeff (Sonya) Schulz of Apple Valley, MN; 3 daughters: Karrie (Rick) Weber of Maple Lake, MN, Lisa (Eddie) Chadwick of Delano, MN and Jenifer (Mark) Stodola of Minnetrista, MN; 9 grandchildren: Bruce, William, Karl, Bradley, Daniella, Samantha, Alexanna, Lily and Charles Chadwick; 2 step-grandchildren: Lindsay & Abigail Stodola; Mother: Hazel O'Rourke of Wells; Sister: Monica (Mrs. Robert) Merlino of Vancouver, WA; 2 brothers: James (Diana) O'Rourke of Easton, Richard (Kay) O'Rourke of Minnesota Lake and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father in 1996 and her husband in 1992. Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association.
